"Magic" and "psionics" are very similar to eachother. The difference is that magic requires you to read scrolls, chant magic words, and attain mystical artifacts. Psionics simply require you to concentrate and focus. It is an innate gift that some people have, that through hard work and meditation can be learned by others. Buddhist monks are known for being able to light things on fire with psionics, and their power became unimaginable after we peacefully assimilated them. (as it is, we are masters of psionics)

In conclusion, our form of "magic" is widely practiced and learned by all. Other forms of magic are rarely ever heard of.

Magic is very subjective to the Unicorn's special talent (as represented by a cutie mark) and while we can scientifically pinpoint certain elements as to what a Unicorn manipulates in order to use magic, humans have yet to replicate it. There are a few whose special talent IS magic. They are immediately isolated and sent to the Stellar Mages, our magic brigade in the military, for rigorous training. According to a 2011 census, 13% of Ulvena's population are Unicorns.
