Magic In Your Nation

Postby The Multiversal Species Alliance » Tue Oct 09, 2012 1:27 am

What's the status of magic in your nation?
We call it, "quantum manipulation" & we allow it to be freely used so long as it isn't used to harm others. In fact, we train people how to properly use it in school.
In regards to RP,see my factbook:

Magic does not exist in our nation, although we do have some occultists and people who believe in folk magic, it has no scientific basis.

Any sufficiently analyzed magic is indistinguishable from science.

We have the science of psionics which basically does all the same things without all the needless hocus pocus of less advanced races and their bone-pointing shamans .

Freely used by people who are capable but they are affected by law. (i.e. magic used for murder is still murder and is punishable).

Our government's official position on magic, like with Aliens, ghost, Vampires, etc. is that it is non-existent (scientifically unproven), and anyone who believes in it is on the lunatic fringe, and treated as such.

P.S. Sorry to add this, but a friend PMed me. He reminded me that there is a type of magic in my nation, in the form of mushrooms. You can find them in any supermarket here, normally between the Portobello mushrooms and the Afghan Kush. Bon Appetit!

Technically we don't have magic but some consider our elemental bending magic.

Postby Sanian Confederacy » Tue Oct 09, 2012 4:11 am

The Sanian Confederacy in it’s early days (IE: before the advent of reliable long range communication technology) often used Unicorns to allow Generals and other higher ranking individuals to oversee any military action through the use of telemetric assistants, who would often relay messages and orders to their subordinates via a combination of photomancy and telemetry. With this battlefield role largely regulated to historical use by modern technology. Now Unicorns and Sanian Humans specifically modified to use magic often preform more “proactive” battlefield roles, ranging from support units capable of focusing their raw magical potential into barriers that can shield fellow soldiers and help control the flow of battle. To squads that can launch the equivalent of magical artillery strikes that impact targets with the force of a mortar shell. The process is taxing in both cases, but the results against any enemy's front lines and for Sanian troops that might otherwise be without fire support are noticeably.

Outside the military most magical beings are allowed to go about their business and use their magical talents without hindrance. However, magical humans or individuals whose species aren't normally known to have magically inclined abilities are required to register with several government agencies to ensure that should anyone become incarcerated they can't use otherwise unaccounted for magical abilities to escape.

Magic can only be used by the Grand Army of our Most Glorious Leader, Sam Munroe. Otherwise, all Magicians, Jedi, Sith and other Supernaturals are executed and dissected.

Magic is regulated by the Advisory of Magic. Dark magic is constitutionally banned, although other forms are used more freely.

In the TBRE, magic is rare, and regulated under the Usage of Magic Act of 2008, banning offensive or large-scale use of magic.

It's effing everywhere, in magitek form. No magical field exists to allow spellcasters access to actual casting however, due to a geological quirk (and thus resulted in a slightly unfortunate turn of events for the beings who evolved there).
Basically, magic exposure is the same as being irradiated with 'traditional' forms to the natives. But when you have magic-absorbing and -releasing crystals, you use 'em.

Actual spellcasters exist outside the nation however, in the various forms that people have dreamt up.
Welcome to Lorei! Here's your pass and watch your step! No seriously, you could fall. Like, splat. And we don't want to clean that up..

many of our citizens are practitioners of “the physic arts”. Essentially “Magic” in layman’s terms, it allows a person to manipulate the ambient energy around their bodies.

What's the status of magic in your nation?

It exists; and the Crown does not approach the matter overly much. We do not legalize or illegalize the inborn abilities of our citizens.

Magic is incredibly important to Imperial culture, both secular and religious, as well as every Imperial industry.

What little "magic" we have is not considered supernatural. It's quantified, studied, and regulated as any scientific field.
