Once these are done, I still need to do the GT680 machines (some of which I haven't even drawn yet), bash together a spotter's guide for those cars, and then convert them to UlarnScale.

If it's just about "looking better", longer tube anyway (which I answered with the first bit about aesthetic appeal). I just didn't see a reason you couldn't have batteries with different capacities. People that carry around machine guns don't carry around two different models (and if they did, I'm sure there are models that fire different types of ammo). They carry the one gun, and the ammo they need for that particular gun. As it stands, there are at least dozens of bullet calibres, for weapons of varying sizes and styles. If you're going to have two sizes of the weapon, what's wrong with two sizes of battery?

Tl;dr: longer battery case regardless of battery size

I know soldiers aren't going to be carrying two weapons of the same type around with them. However, someone has to supply them with the gun they do have, as well as supply another guy with his gun, which may be a different one because that guy has a different role. For example, one soldier might be special forces and have a sub-machinegun while another might be have a support role that only requires a pistol. For the guy who has to find both these other dudes' guns and the ammo for them, it makes his job a lot easier if they can both use the same type of ammo, since then he only has to fill out one requisition form, contact one supplier, intravenously inject one mug of coffee, etc. For this reason, it's most helpful to streamline the supply system as much as possible by having as many weapons as possible use the same parts so long as this doesn't affect combat performance. That's why so many USN weapons use the same batteries; it makes supplying them so much more straightforward.

Length probably doesn't affect storage capacity. I suppose this one's not really for military use but the company that builds it also makes just about all of my space navy's small arms so it tends to hold military applications in mind during the design process even if the gun's probably going to see most sales on the civilian market.

That pistol grip is way to round... for my liking anyway but it's great work.

The grips were based on these sorts of things since I was aiming for an ornamental antique feel for this one. There's also going to be a tacticooled version though, which will have a more sensible looking grip.

I believe he's referring to a VLS or rail launcher where multiple types of missile can be launched from the same launcher.

As for SB guidelines on missiles, I can see the purpose of showing the missiles above the launchers if you have VLS/rails in multiple places, since it's possible that not all missile types are launched from both launchers; also with VLS, it makes it easier to find the launchers in profile view. If you have Harpoon/Tomahawk box launchers, I say it doesn't matter where you draw the missile since we can figure out which launcher it comes from. (Unless we're one of Ham's nutters who shouldn't be viewing SB in the first place, but who really cares about them anyway?)
