Planets

Mermadane

The desert planet of Mermadane is renowned for its burnt orange and red sands that cover its surface and bath its moon and any object in orbit with a surreal reddish orange aura. Being one of the closest planets to Zarathoft, it was not long before the Zarithians began to expand to Red Orb as it is referred to. What they discovered of the vast burnt orange planet was that it was incapable of supporting life in its current state, and so a majority of public interest was lost in Mermadane. However, there were those that remained to research the planet, and those who realized there could be profit to be made from the resources it held.

Major Cities
Book (Planetary Capital)
-The city of Book, upon the surface, appears to be nothing more than a cluster of colonization living units and structures on the surface of Mermadane. It is; however, within the subterranean depth beneath these units that Book sprawls out in all directions. Constructed into the very ground of Mermadane, the city fills vast chambers and caverns dug into the planet with metro trains available to transit citizens from location to location, while specialized structures regulate oxygen and gravity resulting in a life similar to a habitable planet, a welcomed contrast to the surface of Mermadane, where space suits are required at all times. Advanced artificial lighting replicates the sun throughout the city, and is programmed to follow the natural rotation of the planet to mimic the actual sunlight on the planet. Shuttles and underground metro trains centralized in Book provide transportation to the mining installation Red Sand, the largest mining installation within the Inner Limits, and the research colony Hifton to those within the city needing to travel to their locations.

Zarathoft

Image

Zarathoft is a large, but predominantly harsh planet, despite being able to support life. Consistent low temperatures cause an almost endless winter. While maintaining a moderate climate along the equator of the planet, it becomes fatally lower as one reaches the northern and southern regions of the planet, where deadly blizzards and frigid wind chill is commonplace.

-Theros is the largest city on Zarathoft, along with being the capital, governmental, and cultural hub of the nation. Almost any event of national significance takes place in Theros, or includes Theros in some way or form. A majority of all major business entities have a branch of their businesses located in Theros due to the importance of the city, and Theros is the home of the Royal Family’s estate.

-Urvey

-Ries
-Known as the Sky City or the City in the Sky, Ries is situated among the highest mountains on one of the many mountain ranges of Okkan. Statues and structures have been carved from and into the very mountains the people there live on and in, creating a city made from the very planet itself. People of religion often make pilgrimages there because it is believed that the elevation of the city brings them closer to the gods.

-Callom
-The largest city on Acaria has thrived despite its harsh conditions. Being the largest major city located the furthest north, Callom frequently endures long, harsh winters and bone-biting winds. Even so, people from Acaria have flocked to the city, breeding strong, able bodied men and women resistant to the cruel weather that surrounds them.

Roth Glacies

The last planet within the Alivant System is the icy dwarf planet Roth Glacies. Located on the inner fringe of the Lavartis Asteroid Belt, Roth Glacies acts as a major mining hub to companies looking to capitalize on the resources not only on Roth Glacies, but of the Levartis as well. Due to the planet’s axis tilt, and its slow rotation, nights on Roth Glacies can be painfully long and frigidly cold. The inhabitents of Roth Glacies have taken to calling these nights the Long Dark.

Major Cities
Warmhearth (Planetary Capital)
-A sprawling metropolis of surface capsules and structures dot the landscape of Roth Glacies as Warmhearth shines within the icy surface. With even more buildings and tunnels constructed below the surface capsules, Warmhearth nearly triples in size once one enters the underground network. A hub of traders bringing in products from the Alivant to sell their wares with the wealthy mining citizens of Roth Glacies who have large wages and little to spend it on, as well as the transportation hub providing passage and travel to the numerous mining complexes on the planet, Warmhearth is the last notable city before the end of civilization in the Alivant.

Nevara Asteroid Belt

The Nevara Astroid Belt, sometimes simply referred to as the Belt, is the largest of the two asteroid belts within the Alivant System. Located approximately in the middle of the Alivant, it is known for its large quantity of asteroids of all sizes, as well as having the SPEAR Military Installation located within its orbit, and has gained a reputation of being difficult to traverse to pilots unfamiliar with its patterns and flight paths. The difficulty in navigating the Belt acts as a natural defensive barrier and impediment to foreign vessels attempting to cross the Alivant to reach Zarathoft.

All locations between the Alivant System's sun, and the Nevara Astroid belt are known as the Inner Limits, while anything located after the Nevara Asteroid Belt is referred to as being apart of the Outer Limits

Lavartis Asteroid Belt

The smaller of the two asteroid belts, the Lavartis Asteroid Belt, is found on the very outer edge of the Alivant system, with the dwarf planet Roth Glacies located right off its inner edge. A large amount of unnamed protoplanets reside within the Lavartis Asteroid Belt, and are commonly mined by the various mining installations operating on Roth Glacies. The end of the Lavartis, for simplicity’s sake, is commonly referred to as the end of the Alivant.

The Winged Shield (Military)

“We are the wings of the people, we shall be ever at their sides, not only as their shield, but as the wings that carry them forward.”

Image

The Winged Legions

While Zarathoft has had little need for a large standing army for much of its history, it still has maintained a small fighting force which has slowly been growing in recent times. Trained for land-based combat and maneuvers, soldiers train both on the military installations in space, as well as on the harshest surfaces of Zarathoft allowing the Winged Legions of Zarathoft to prepare itself for all situations should the need arise.

Harriers
Being the first official military group to be sanctioned under the government, the Harriers have grown to become the largest branch of the Winged Legions, and trained to fight in almost all situations. Armed with a standard railgun, laser pistol, Scale Suits, and their training, Harriers are the standard infantry unit of the Zarithian military.

Osprey
The Osprey are very similar to the Harriers, but could very well be considered the specialists of the standard infantryman. Receiving similar armaments of the standard issue railgun, but having modified Scale Suits, otherwise known as Osprey Class Scale Suits, that come equipped with jet packs, the Osprey specialize in planetary invasions, standard invasions, and mobile infantry tactics making them a resourceful military unit in battle. Also, the Osprey have trained heavily in hit-and-run maneuvers that only add to these soldiers' deadly mobility.

Terrapins
The Terrapins are the armored units of the Winged Legions, as they are the forces that operate all the armored vehicles, along with possessing a full suit of Terrapin Class Scale Suits, which has a larger amount of armor built into it and a short duration personal shield, for protection for the soldiers not inside vehicles. Their primary purpose is in the roles of armored assaults and in defending strategic locations. Along with their body armor, the Terrapins also are armed with the standard railguns, with specialty squads using anti-armor weapons, and heavy assault weapons.

The Faceless
Although their official title is Special Operatives, the Faceless are the primary units of the Special Operations branch of the Zarithian military. Once a soldier enters into the Special Operations program, his or her military records are deleted or altered, and they are no longer officially recognized by Zarathoft. Their face is covered for the duration of training and for all operations. The only ones to ever see their face is said to be their fellow squadmates. Other members of the Faceless, and even most commanding officers do not know what their comrades look like. It is even rumored that members of the Faceless have reconstructive facial surgery to make them unidentifiable, or to change their facial structure after every mission. They wear advanced body suits that have the ability to create the illusion that the soldier is a part of their surroundings, along with concealing all thermal activity. The Faceless have access to all the weapons and vessels in the Zarithian arsenal. Their primary role is for stealth operations, confidential missions, guerrilla warfare, and assassinations.

Sentries
Sentries are the units tasked with patrolling and guarding the platforms of Zarathoft. They are usually only lightly armored, except in times of high alert where they wear the standard Scale Suits. They are armed with either standard railguns or a stun rifle depending on their assignment, and a light laser pistol sidearm. Although most of the Sentries are basic recruits, the most advanced Sentry units are tasked with guarding the Tarlvich Family, the President, government officials, and government buildings. They are the most commonly encountered soldiers on the Platforms.

Push
Push is the moniker used by soldiers in the Winged Legions to describe a drug administered to soldiers during combat situations that increases alertness, reaction time, and overall performance of the soldier. It also aids in analyzing situations, while increasing brain functions dramatically.

Pull
Pull is the moniker for the drug opposite of Push. If a soldier needs to come off of the Push, or needs to be calmed, he can be administered Pull. Acting as a mild sedative or to nullify the effects of Push immediately.

Each soldier’s battle suit measures his body’s readings and applies the appropriate amount of the drugs when they are needed intravenously, although there is a manual override, only limited quantities are allowed while being used manually. The only exception is that medics can completely control the function of the administration method should it be required.

Scale Corp. Armored Battle Suits (Scale Suits)
Scale Corp. is the sole designer and producer of the Zarithian military’s armored body suits, more commonly referred to as Scale Suits. True to the company’s name, the standard suit’s primary material resembles lamellar scale armor in its finished form while being lightweight and flexible, although the end design looks more like miniature feathers than scales. Scale Suits come in a variety of colors depending on the current combat landscape, but the ceremonial one’s are Zarithian sky blue with white trim woven in, and the the Winged Shield is placed on both sides of the upper arms. Scale Suits are also designed to monitor the current temperature of the user’s environment to automatically adjust itself to keep the wearer at an adequate body temperature. Armored plates are attached to the vital areas such as the chest, torso, back, shoulders, forearms, thighs, lower legs, and is equipped with armored gloves and armored boots, while leaving the joints less restrained and more mobile. The forearm armor pieces are equipped with an extendable and retractable blade able to extend either forwards out of the forearm, or backwards by the elbow for the wearer, while the boots also possess blades hidden into both the toe and heel of the boot. Also, built into the underside of the forearm piece is the injectors used to distribute the Push and Pull drugs used by the soldiers. Both the shoulder plates and forearm armor are tapered at the ends to form subtle wing designs.

The helmet, while a separate piece of the suit, hints at an avian theme with designs giving it a subtle hawk like appearance when viewed quickly, but maintains itself by primarily functioning as a protective helmet. The retractable visor provides the primary visuals for the soldiers, while another tinted visor can be activated should the need arise. Featuring a built in gas mask, and sporting a variety of advanced technological functions, the helmet is the technological hub of a Scale Suit. Again, Zarithian sky blue is the main color of the helmet with white trim, as well as subtle wing designs flanking the visor.

All Scale Suits also possess the ability to be outfitted for space, should the need arise.

Scale Corp. also produces a Terrapin Class Scale Suit designed for the heavy infantry of the Winged Shield, which is completely armored and has a personal powered shield built into each suit that can be used for a short duration until recharged. Another specialty suit is the Osprey Class Scale Suit, which features a jet pack for the highly mobile Osprey units.

The Winged Fleet

Originally developed to once again take part in space exploration, as well as providing basic security around the platforms, the naval branch of the Zarithian military has taken on a more aggressive role in recent years. Using advancements in drone technology, shields, and railcannons, along with an increase in the focus of naval power, the Winged Fleet is quickly becoming the strength of the military.

Types of Ships

Luminary Class Flagship

Image

The Luminary Class Flagships were originally designed to be major troop and supply transport vessels, but advancements in their shielding and defensive capabilities have allowed them to become mobile command centers. Luminary Class vessels head all invasion fleets and major defense fleets when the need arises. These floating cities provide all the basic military necessities to not only land forces, but naval forces as well, making them the ideal flagships for the Winged Fleet.

Space Combat Aerial Drones (S.C.A.D)
Due to the limited amount of military personnel available to the Zarithian Navy following the colonization of the planet, and due to the fact that manpower was needed elsewhere to support the new way of life, the training of pilots for combat became increasingly taxing on the forces. This resulted in the development of Space Combat Aerial Drones to take the roles that pilots used to take. Different types of drones were developed throughout the time to fill the gaps left by the lack of pilots. Most drones are operated by advanced computer systems on board their ship of origin while being monitored by human controllers. All SCADs possess light shields, with the exception of the Human Operated Drones, which have combat level shields.

Attacking Space Combat Aerial Drones (A.S.C.A.D)
The primary attacking drones of the Zarithians. Slender cylindrical tube lengthwise, with two wings protruding on either side armed with lasers.

Dimensions
Length: 4 meters
Width: 2 meters (including wings)

Defensive Space Combat Aerial Drones (D.S.C.A.D)
As drones developed further, engineered defensive orientated drones whose role consists of protecting the ships they're docked on or the stations they're docked on. Their description is the same as the ASCADs, only with defensive programming and nature.

All-Purpose Space Combat Aerial Drones (A.P.S.C.A.D)
Drones that act as the mediums between ASCADs and DSCADs, with both offensive and defensive natures to them. Their description is the same as the previous two, only programming and nature is a balance of attacking and defensive.

Human Operated Drones (H.O.Ds)
These are larger, more advanced versions of the standard drones which are actually operated by human soldiers in “Flight Rooms.” The pilots go through intense training as well as enduring surgical enhancements so that they are able to consciously connect to the drone they are operating through an advanced artificial intelligence system. However, due to the level in which they are connected while piloting these drones, if the drone is damaged or destroyed, the operator can experience significant brain or other organ damage, and even death. The feature the same design as the other SCADs, only the HODS are an additional 2 meters long and 1 meter wider as they are meant to replace the fightes, and have with two additional lasers installed. The HODs can also be outfitted with torpedoes or missiles for ship bombardment or fighter to fighter operations.

Dimensions
Length: 6 meters
Width: 3 meters (including wings)

Detonation on Impact Space Combat Aerial Drones (D.I.S.C.A.D)
Used as either floating mines, or to bombard enemy ships, these drones are programmed to detonate when they come into contact with a foreign vessel. DISCADs are spherical drones with an explosive nature.

Dimensions
Circumference: 2 meters

Space Installations

Platforms
Much of Zarathoft’s infrastructure is divided into seven original Space Platforms (P1-P7) created from the shuttles and spaceships that brought the colonists to the Alivant System, with Platforms 8-12 (P8-P12) being added outside the original ring to house the growing needs of the population. A large portion of the Zarithian population lives aboard these space platforms surrounding Zarathoft, or in massive ships attached to the platforms, rather than face the harsher lifestyle that comes with residing on the planets. All the platforms are connected through “metro stations” leading from one to the other, along with space shuttles to ferry citizens from platform to platform. Citizens are allowed to travel from platform to platform freely, but are required to scan ID cards as they enter and exit the metro stations, as well as paying a small fee to use the metro. The only exception is Platform Six, in which only military personnel and authorized citizens are allowed to enter, unless they are being escorted.

Platform One
The original platform, now considered the “Capital Platform”, as almost all government business is conducted on Platform One, along with almost its entire infrastructure being designated for political use.

Platforms Two-Four
The second through fourth (P2-P4) platforms are primarily used as the original living quarters for the populations, along with having the general feel of any typical city. Platform Two generally lived in by wealthier citizens, though the richest of citizens live in private shuttles permanently docked onto the platforms acting as private mansions. Platform Three would be the equivalent of a middle class living area, with Platform Four being considered to be where the impoverished dwell.

Platform Five
The business headquarters of Zarathoft. Platform 5 is almost strictly industrial or office buildings. Almost all major Zarithian companies and their factories are on P5.

Platform Six
Military platform. All main training grounds and main military bases are built into Platform 6 making it the military HQ of Zarathoft. However, there is a military presence on every platform, as well as throughout the Alivant. While P6 is the main military platform, not all military activity occurs there. The military also has bases on the planet and all soldiers have a mandatory training on planet as part of their development.

Platform Seven
Science and Engineering platform. Almost all scientific research and engineering advancements are made on P7. It is the technological hub of Zarathoft.

Platforms Eight-Eleven
Agricultural and food production/processing takes place on P8-P11. Due to the harshness of Zarathoft’s surface, and its inability to sustain ample food production, Platforms Eight through Eleven were constructed to meet that necessity.

Platform Twelve
Due to the growth in industry, along with P5 becoming increasingly crowded, Platform Twelve was established to allow businesses to expand onto another platform. However, nearly half of Platform Twelve is controlled by Scale Corp., and its subsidiary company the Waterfront Mining Firm.

S.P.E.A.R Military Installation
Space Protection, Engagement, and Reconnaissance Station, or SPEAR/SPEAR Station for short, is a Zarithian military installation orbiting near the halfway point between the planet of Zarathoft and the outer worlds of the Alivant system. Located within the Nevara Astroid Belt and acting as both a rescue hub for stranded vessels making the journey between the outer worlds and Zarathoft, as well as a primary defensive and reconnaissance base, SPEAR sees significant traffic, and plays an important role for the nation. Following the name of the station, it’s design actually tends to resemble that of a spear. With its main body being a large, long cylindrical beam with a triangle structure attached to the top end of the beam. A series of spinning rings can be found around the beam of the station to create gravity.

Waypoint Stations
Waypoint stations are simply stations where vessels are able dock to refuel, resupply, rest, or receive medical treatment should it be needed. There are various waypoint stations throughout the Alivant System to provide relief to those who need it. They commonly derive their names from whatever moon they happen to be stationed on, such as the Tianja Prime Waypoint Station.

Government

The government of Zarathoft is a representative Republic, based in the city of Theros. Representatives are elected by the people through free and open elections, and are elected by majority vote of the people. Laws may be proposed by only head officials, however, a head official is required to propose the law should there enough officials petitioning him or her to do so, or by a citizen granted that they have received enough signatures to petition a law, in which it is then handed over their head representative.

Senators
Senators are the primary representatives of the people, with each planet that sustain's a permanent settlement (not just a research colony/mining installation/military installation) being able to elect one person to serve as their senator. Additional senators are chosen in the order of popular vote that they received, regardless of their location. The president is automatically an elected senator for all the people, bringing the total number of senators to thirteen, serving on this committee as well as overseeing its meetings. The Senate typically meets once a week, unless additional meetings are scheduled.

People’s Council
The People’s Council is the largest branch of representatives in the Zarithian government. These councilmen and councilwomen are elected by the people of their continent to represent their continent in the capital. The number of representatives a continent receives is based proportionally on their population into 1,000 person assembly. This assembly meets daily on the capitol grounds, and is presided over by the vice president, who is only allowed to vote in the rare circumstance that there is a tie.

The Royal Family

While the Tarlvich family was never officially a royal family to begin with, they were the most prominent family for generations of Zarithian history, fielding the leaders of the country time and time again. Following the death of the people’s beloved Avery Tarlvich due to a tragic accident, it was soon after declared that the Tarlvich’s become royalty in her honor. While the only real governmental power the family possesses is influence, their primary purpose is to use the skills of ruling they’ve learned to advise the government, and to act as diplomats and ambassadors to foreign nations.
