Kawaii in your nation.

Postby Novus Niciae » Fri Sep 28, 2012 2:26 am

How Kawaii is your nation?
Do you have a lot of cute decorations or are you more utilitarian?

In Novus Niciae we like to put little embellishments on just about anything if it does not interfere with it's function to make make it look a bit nicer.

For example if we are doing maintenance in a playground we put up these barriers.

We do not suffer such pointless intricacies in Inniscarra Lands. A waste of already very low tax revenue.

there is cute and there is cute. this is not only in the eye of the beholder, but culturally depends on where and how it is applied. sapient faces on mechanical objects, for example, are considered offensive.
on the other paw, regeneticizing one'self to improve ones physical attractiveness according to your own aesthetics and imagination, is not only acceptable but practiced widely.
it is quite common for the species a cameroi was born as, to be no longer recognizable.

Not officially, no. Privately owned structures are free to be decorated however the owner wants them, but governmental buildings and collectively owned ones (approximating to the same thing over here) are mass-produced glass and sheet metal, with holoprojectors providing any necessary details or information.

Yes, very much so. It goes with the infantilist culture. Look at the architecture entry in my factbook. Those are the buildings.

Purpelians prefer a more baroque take on things. So not utilitarian but definitively not plastic bunnies.
Purpelia does not reflect my actual world views. In fact, the vast majority of Purpelian cannon is meant to shock and thus deliberately insane. I just like playing with the idea of a country of madmen utterly convinced that everyone else are the barbarians. So play along or not but don't ever think it's for real.

We're not particularly Kawaii in the TBRE - we're much more utilitarian, and cuteness isn't really a big thing here. However, the government does take efforts not to appear too formal or separated from the people, and more like somebody you would want to enjoy a lemonade with.

While we aren't exactly ones for cute  or otherwise Kawaii things. Both the government and plain old everyday citizens prefer a healthy mix of utilitarian and decorative influences to make both practical and beautiful creations, while trying to avoid making anything to gaudy or dull.

We love "kawaii". The pinnacle of this is our nation's cultural symbol, Hatsune Miku. (but she isn't always depicted in a super-cute style)

Olwe tends to be more "green" than "kawaii"... the nation's buildings and other structures are beautified, but not cutely. Green roofs, living walls and other such things are common.

However, buildings that don't have vegetation covering every square inch of outer surface area will reveal themselves to be rather brightly painted, as was the Olwean custom before the current green kick started... Olwean cars generally tend to be pink, yellow, orange or purple rather than black or white, as well.

Graffiti is legal throughout the Empire, so there is also some more traditional kawaii stuff going on (as well as artistic -- and not-so-artistic -- murals of naked people).

We generally don't prefer cuteness in our architecture and style, being more pragmatic in design. You could say that our hatchlings and chicks are very cute and some fangirls say that about our President (much to his embarrassment, of course). Of course, the term kawaii itself is rarely used, like most Japanese phrases, outside such phrases as banzai (usually uttered by people jumping out of aircraft) and the names of weapons like nodachi, naginata, and odachi. Kawaii itself is only uttered by a small number of humans. Interestedly, a few humans also tend to beat up people who use that word. Strange creatures.

It's incredibly difficult for a Dragonkinian to find something cute. The things of which people will usually find cute are small Reptillian pets, Cats, and Dragon Hatchlings at the most. Generally, Dragonkinians prefer their stuff looking very clean and simple, or gritty and rugged. 'Kawaii' does not fit into any of those categories.
