The Sani-Equine Adaptive Combat Vest (SEACV) is a ballistic protective vest system worn by members of the Sanian Self Defense Force (SSDF), Rapid Reaction Force (RRF), United Army of the Confederacy (UAC), and even members of the Special Hunters for Apocalyptic Defense and Outbreak Warfare (SHADOW). Originally designed for use by freshly recruited Equine (Pony) soldiers, it's since been adapted and further repurposed for use by both Gryphon and conventional Human soldiers with the express purpose in it's design to sheath the human and nonhuman body as completely as possible in high durability armor.
The Sani-Equine Adaptive Combat Vest (SEACV) is a custom-made Sanian Adaptive Armor System (SAAS) based on several other internationally produced and proprietary technologies not widely available and protected against replication by sophisticated Fabrication Rights Management (FRM) technology. Consistsing of a sandwich of materials moulded to form a rigid shell. The outer layer of this sandwich is a ultra-light titanium alumide alloy to provide structural strength and ablative protection against lasers. Beneath this is a core, consisting of a layer of boron carbide resin bonded to a layer of graphite-composite carbon fibre. Boron carbide is an incredibly hard ceramic designed to shatter a bullet on impact while simultaneously forming a conoid base to absorb its energy. Beneath this, the carbon-fibre layer provides ballistic protection at the point of penetration by delaminating across a large area, so absorbing more energy. Finally, on the inside of the armour is a woven liner made of 1,500 denier venlar fibres. This woven liner dissipates the remainder of the energy by deforming in the area of impact, and is also able to catch any shelling or fragmentation from the first three layers. Since any bullet fragment impact on the armour shell tends to compromise its integrity and ability to provide ballistic protection, it is standard practice to replace any affected section immediately.
In practice, the stopping power of the armour is somewhat limited versus direct hits, particularly from high-velocity ball ammunition and HEAP small-arm rounds. However, it can be expected to stop low-powered ball ammunition and provide some protection against impact-fused explosive bullets and grenade or artillery fragments. Some stealth characteristics have also been included, such as curved and rounded surfaces to reduce radar signature, and infrared masking. The armour comes issued in woodland camouflage but can be repainted to suit different terrain. Snipers and those charged with counter-sniper duties often customize their vests to utilize a full cover of rough webbing or fishnetting in a durable fabric attached in irregular patterns designed to hide lines and blend in. When on location, as much of the local foliage as possible without restricting movement is also applied to blend in. Many Sanians personalize their armour and this practice is mostly tolerated, unless the individuals are in high profile positions
Overall the combination of armor layers of a suit of adequately-maintained SEACV confers to the wearer significant protection against most types of damage, including projectile, blunt force trauma, concussive, and blast damage uncommon in personal armor. Yet, it does so without the extreme weight inherent in most battle armor systems of the 20th and 21st centuries, with SEACV providing outstanding protection at comparatively low weight but high comfort levels.
Vest: The main component of the armor is a rigid vest, which protects the thoractic-abdominal region, front and back, between the upper abdomen and lower neck. This comprises a two-piece clamshell secured by plastic clips. At the top of the clamshell, above each shoulder, is a rigid load-bearing arch from which hang the Combat Webbing straps. These arches are padded beneath to protect the wearers shoulders when the armour is loaded with additional equipment. Two segmented pieces attached by webbing straps protect the front and side of the shoulders.
Abdomen: Below the armoured vest is a separate section which covers the front abdomen and groin. This is a flexible pad of hard ballistic armour secured by a combination 'suspenders' harness. A rigid armour plate is fixed to the lowest part of the pad to protect the genitals.
Helmet: A helmet completes the ensemble. In most variants, the helmet is a ballistic assembly, designed to protect the wearer from projectile and energy weapon impacts, bladed weapons, blunt trauma, and concussive force. A set of integrated polarized visors protect the user's eyes from the ordinary battlefield hazards of grit and dust, but also laser blindness and fragments. Helmets also incorporate a combination camera/laser rangefinder unit built into the helmet's right side, just above the ear, with a back-mounted battery that can be used to power any helmet attachments; complete with a light, and secure radio uplink, along with a video camera (and accompanying emergency cut off switch) for the commanding officer or whoever else is watching to see and record live combat situations for later review and training purposes.
Arm: Aside from the vest and helmet, SEACV is also manufactured with a built in 'hidden blade', the technological update of a Sanian ritualistic hunting weapon, the wrist blade, mostly commonly used as a multi-purpose close combat weapon. The weapon is exceedingly popular, mostly in the United Army, who often train and issue it as widely as possible. It utilizes a stiletto styled stabbing blade, making it excellent for short range strikes at an opponent, allowing it to pierce vital organs and drop an opponent dead, near instantly.
And often coupled with a gauntlet and 'slash guards', tightly and densely-woven material tubes to be worn over the forearm. These dense fabrics are highly resistant to slashing and stabbing attacks, and most infantry with practice can be trained to use these to deflect incoming bayonet, knife, or sword strikes to non-vital areas, or away from their body entirely. The blade is exceedingly dangerous in close quarters, where a skilled wielder can easily parry the blow of and unexpectedly slay an adversary, or cut vital arteries, ligaments or tendons, or most commonly, go for throat strikes. The blade, to some degree, requires more finesse to wield and in skilled hands, results in a deadly and stealthy weapon.
Leg: Leg armour consists of a pair of clamshell greaves which cover the whole of the lower leg from ankle to knee. The knee segments are articulated on webbing straps and tied around the leg above and at the back, with another set of "slash guard" wraparound leg supports for the shin and calf. In the interests of comfort and maneuverability, the armor’s encasing joints are articulated, not sealed. While this permits longer wear times, more comfort, balance, and surer footing, it compromises the armor integrity. Consequently, water and other liquids can enter the armor and affect the user.
Combat Webbing: A combined velcro-lined heavy duty nylon set of webbing with side-release snap buckles. Comprised of an equipment belt with keepers, and suspender-style bandoleers that attach by snap straps to the load bearing shoulder pauldrons of the combat vest. Each bandoleer is capable of holding three 30 round STANAG magazines (total 12) each is also capable of being replaced instead with a grenade sling with four elastic loops for holding 40mm rifle grenades (18 total). A number of pouches can also be attached and these can be used for carrying items such as a GPS unit, personnel first aid kit, respirator, water hydration system or additional spare ammunition. A combat knife or pistol holster can also be attached to the webbing.
Cargo Pants: Designed to be durable in order to withstand the rigors of rough outdoor activities and combative operations, canvas cargo pants are most commonly worn by SEACV users over their armored greaves, many of whom find that other types of leg-wear are not the best choices for usage in the harsh world of combat they often face and that SEACV’s built in legging, which due to their articulated nature are often less then desirable when faced with adverse weather.
Trench Coat: A rather heavy coat, with optional liner, with greater length to cover most of a wearer's legs. Made popularly from leather, treated to be water repellent. Ideal for protection from rain and heavy wind, they aid greatly in keeping a SEACV wearer dry and warm. Issued in several patterns for deployments to temperate, desert and jungle zones. The disruptive pattern of the fabric itself is printed in at least three colors, dependent on the design, and use a number of different high-temperature dyes in the printing process, with each being designed to absorb infrared radiation at different frequencies, effectively breaking up the wearer's IR signature.
