Education In Your Nation

Postby The Multiversal Species Alliance » Sun Sep 23, 2012 1:52 pm

What's the status of education in your nation?
The State holds several subjects as equally importent: education, healthcare, the environment & welfare. Education is compulsory from age four to age sixteen, homeschooling is strictly illegal, as are private schools. We follow the Sudbury Model, with the students deciding what to learn for themselves, no classes, no curiculum.

Not really sure what the board of education teaches, but most students of Irentian in fifth grade are smarter then 8th graders in other countries.

Only the smartest children are sent to school. At age 9, all people must take a test. This decides whether they'll go to school or go to work in the factories/mines/whatever.

In the schools themselves, school systems are allowed the liberty of deciding whatever they want to teach the kids.

Students within Panzermmee learn more about Nature, and Survival than Mathematics, History, Language, and other subjects. Most children are expert horse-back riders, without saddles, by age 6. It is vital for children to understand that being able to survive in extremities for extended periods of time, and contributing to the Nation are more important than knowing what x(8-7y)=8/9+10 is.

Provided universally through public schools. It is kept up and well-funded. Private schools also compete with state schools.

There is a national curriculum with strict guidelines that school districts must follow, along with yearly two-day standardized tests for years 6 and above.

The curriculum stresses math and science in particular, along with strong critical reading and writing skills. History is not stressed quite as much as the others.

In years 9-12, students are expected to complete the following math classes (and additional ones if you take advanced math): Geometry, Algebra 2, Trigonometry/Pre-calculus, and Calculus 1 or Statistics.

In years 9-12, students are expected to complete the following science classes: Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and a choice of Astrophysics, Biology 2, Human Anatomy and Physiology, Physics 2, Chemistry 2, or Organic Chemistry.

Education is compulsory from age 5 to 16.

Homeschooling is allowed but is rare. Homeschooled students take the same standardized test as everyone else yearly, and if the student fails the exam, the parent loses a license to homeschool the child and he/she must be sent to a public or private school.

Education in Vetalia is provided via both public and private schools with both curricula highly oriented towards traditionally Vetalian professions (engineer, accountant, factory manager, investment banker, etc.); a liberal arts education is only provided via additional hired tutors when the students are educated as minors or later in private university schooling. On average, Vetalian schools offer far more substantial education in accounting, engineering, biological sciences, business management, economics and the trades than comparable schools in other nations; this is meant to prepare the students for entrance into the Vetalian university system and by extension later into the workforce.

Vetalian education is inherently vocational in nature and other than the historians and archaeologists at the university level, those pursuing non-business or STEM* majors are ostracized or saddled with considerable debt to pursue their interests.

While the Ministry of Education and municipal governments arrange a number of free public elementary and secondary education schools, the majority of educational facilities belong to the private sector, and approximately 65% of Herdites currently attaining elementary and secondary education do so at private schools. National curriculum is set by the Ministry of Education, but it is not enforced and most private schools opt to use their own curriculums. Tertiary education is completely privatized and thus universally requires tuition fees.

The national curriculum is fairly flexible, with a high number of customization and optional courses available to the students, and the base courses stress both the humanities (ponyities?) and basic science fairly equally. Private schools that do not adopt the national curriculum tend to have wildly varying and often specialized curriculums.

Primary and Secondary education is compulsory. Education is free until the end of college. Even after this, low-income families are subsidised for university. Education is free for adults working towards their first O-level certificate and exceptionally illiterate people, which is the equivalent of the UK GCSE.

All with ultimate aim to keep illiteracy out.

General education in Sanian schools handled by dedicated teachers. Education in towns is focused for the most part teaching math and reading, two skills that any individual will make use of in his or her trade, as well as moral conduct. Religious education is offered in tandem, since most of the texts being read by children are religious stories. Children in towns study from age 6 to age 11 before taking up the family trade or otherwise getting training in a job, which they will likely perform for the rest of their lives. As with town education, city schools teach children arithmetic and reading, as well as folklore, religion and history. Many cities also have education opportunities for adults in such things as speaking, philosophy, law and politics and the arts and sciences. Several institutions in need of new blood are willing to, for certain fees and favors, offer training and some employment opportunities as well.

While there is public education in the PROR, it is hardly funded. Instead, the government encourages citizens to send their children to private schools (which are surprisingly cheap). In private schools, the curriculum is different for each school, but mathematics, world and PROR history, language, and science (all four subgenres) are required to be taught. In public schools, the same classes are taught. Private schools have many more electives, such as life planning/personal finance, speech class, foreign language, politics and economics, etc.

Education is valued greatly in Saurisia, as much as the Military and hard work. The average child usually learns to read at either three or four years of age. They typically start school at age five, beginning with Kindergarten, moving up one grade per year until they reach 12th Grad at age 17 from which they graduate from High School. Should they fare poorly in a Grade, however, they are to repeat that grade again upon hope that they fare better. If they do not, then they are to repeat said grade again and again and again until they finally fare well.

The grades are arranged in three different School types. Kindergarten to 5th Grade is Elementary School, 6th to 8th Grade is Middle Grade, and 9th to 12th Grade is High School.

Choice is a major part of the Saurisian School System. A student and his/her parents are free to choose between taking Private School, Public School, and Homeschooling, all with their own benefits and downsides. The choices are to be made between the end of a school year and the beginning of a new one. If no choice is made in that time, the student sticks with his/her current school.

It does cost money to enroll a student into a school, usually 50 to 75 Dino Dollars for public school. However, this is all part of a culture which encourages hard work and perseverance to earn a living. The harder one works, the more they earn. The schools are the same way: those who work hard to get good grades are rewarded while those who are lazy or slack off are scorned and encouraged to cease their destructive behavior.

Discipline is a key part of the school system and those who are disobedient, goof off instead of doing their work, or disrupt the class are sent to detention, where they are forced to do nothing but the schoolwork they were supposed to do. Those who exempt bad behaviors are typically punished by a good paddling in Elementary School, though this is punished by Suspension in Middle and High Schools.

Overall, these ensure a good relatively well-behaved class who are encouraged to work hard to pass through school.

The grades are arranged in three different School types. Kindergarten to 5th Grade is Elementary School, 6th to 8th Grade is Middle Grade, and 9th to 12th Grade is High School.

Sudalmenia has a public school system which is mandatory from age of 6 until 16. After that, students can choose to take another 2 years of preparatory education before embarking on a higher education.
However, members of the upper middle class and the elite often send their children to private schools. Private education generally starts at the age of 5, and is in general much more extensive than the public one, thus those who have attended private schools often start their university education at the age of 16. Many private schools also offer education to younger children, like a kindergarten or pre-school variety of the general education. If a student at a public school is deemed talented enough, they can apply for a government-funded scholarship at the private school of their choice in their school district. Private schools are required by the board of education to honour such a request and make sure the student receives the proper education if they are granted the scholarship, but the scholarship is as mentioned paid for by the authorities.
Sudalmenia has a wide range of public universities, and they are generally considered as good as or superiro to their private counterparts. All students wishing to pursue higher education must sit at least one university admission test, and the most prestigious universities often require several admission tests. Most universities offer and encourage students to join an exchange program for one or more semesters abroad.

Education is compulsory for children between the ages of 5-16. Though, there is currently rumblings in Congress about making it compulsory until the age of 18 (virtually making it impossible to "drop out" of high school). A school voucher system has been in place for dearly a decade that allows low-income students to leave failing schools and attend better schools (be they public or private).

There are plenty of public and private universities across the nation. Most of the GCSA's big schools center around gridiron football, and the sport is a huge cash cow for many universities. Smaller private schools across the nation have come to be known as the "Confederate Ivy League." Those schools are Vanderbilt University, Duke University, College of William and Mary, Washington University, Tulane, and Rice University.

In Siple, education is the best-funded department of the government. All children attend a compulsory thirteen years of public education beginning at the age of five. Different schools cater to students with different learning styles in order to give all children the best education possible. Following graduation from this compulsory schooling, young adults may attend trade school or university. This higher education is also entirely publicly funded.

In the long run, educational institutions generally do not serve our needs. However, considering they are often times the means in which inhabitants learn to advance our technology, any and all forms of education must be in the state's interest.

Thus, all of it it privately ran. The only stipulation that is incurred on education is that all of it must be entirely technology-oriented applied sciences. Artistic and theocratic studies are banned completely, as they serve no purpose towards advancing progress.

DethNano believes the art and religion creates division and defies the nation (nothing like a rebellious artist or a traditional priest to disagree with the future).

Education is our top priority. It is said that the thing that separates the low class from the high class is education. To that end, education is compulsory from Age 4 to Age 18 and enforced very strictly. Non-negotiable. There are private schools which are restricted and unable to teach religious courses while home schooling is illegal. The educational programs are also very rigorous as well.

In Primary School (Elementary K-6), it's not that bad. You learn the basics such as English, Hangul (Korean), Math, Science, History, etc. To graduate, you must pass an Algebra 1 test at the end of 6th Grade, pass an English 1, Korean 1, Physical Science, and basic Ulvenan history test.

In Secondary School (Middle School 7-9), it's very rigorous for an average student from another nation. This is when two electives are chosen, which train you for what job you wish to do on top of the core subjects. There is the Arts, Music, Basic Scholarly Studies (Sciences, Math, History, Literary, Economics, Politics), Military Program, and Home Economics. Passing requires mastery of Pre-Calculus or Algebra 2, Korean 2, English 2, World History test, and demonstration of your two elective skills.

In Tertiary School (High School 10-12), it's beyond rigorous for the average student from another nation. This is when a third elective is chosen for a talent/tertiary skill. It's also when the elective programs from Secondary School are expanded upon and narrowed in to find a suitable talent for students. Passing requires an Ulvenan Mastery Test pass, passing a Calculus BC Final Exam, and presenting an oral or written thesis on your chosen elective.

All education is designed to make sure even the most inept students are able to pass and to make sure everyone knows how to read and write. Teaching methods vary but heavy emphasis is focused on college style teaching in Tertiary school where analysis, logic, reasoning, and creativity are key to passing.

Homeschooling is illegal, and so are college parties.

The teachers in Karcha are responsible for the welfare and discipline of the students, and if they are convicted of abusing ANY of their students they will be fired and arrested for violent battery.

If a student is caught doing something similar they will be suspended from school for a chosen time and will go into discipline class where they will most likely never do it again.

Other than that, Karchan school students will almost always graduate from school, thanks in part to their naturally high level of intelligence and their amazing ability to learn, as with all Karchans.
