Energy policy in your country

Postby Elevteria » Tue Sep 04, 2012 3:07 am

How does energy policy in your country look like?

In Elevteria government policy emphasizes conservation and the development of renewable sources, such as solar, wind, biomass, water, and geothermal power. As a result of energy saving measures, energy efficiency has been improving since the beginning of the 1960s. The government has set the goal of meeting half the country's energy demands from alternative energy by 2018.
In 1996 the government and the Elevterian nuclear power industry agreed to phase out all nuclear power plants by 2018.

Sustainable energy
In 2000 the Elevterian government announced a new energy policy with the following targets:
Reducing CO2 emissions 40% below 1990 levels by 2015 and 80% below 1990 levels by 2030
Increasing the relative share of renewable energy in gross energy consumption to 60% by 2020, 70% by 2035 and 90% by 2050
Increasing the relative share of renewable energy in gross electrical consumption to 60% by 2020 and 90% by 2050
Increasing the national energy efficiency by cutting electrical consumption 50% below 1999 levels by 2040

POWER PRODUCTION (2015):

Hydro: 29.7%
Wind: 21.8%
Gas: 13.1%
Solar: 8.6%
Nuclear: 8.4%
Oil: 6.6%
Coal: 5.1%
Geothermal: 3.0%
Tidal: 2.8%
Biogas: 0.5%
Others: 0.4%

Avaerilon has always used sustainable energy sources for electrical production; this began with geothermal power and wind- geothermal energy was already being used to heat water and power industry.

Today, we have a variety of energy sources, reflecting the excellent diversity of natural sources of power we have.

Geothermal: 35.7%
Wind: 20.9%
Hydro-Electric: 20.3%
Tidal: 15.6%
Solar: 7.5%

The TBRE government emphasizes sustainable energy designs, with most of our power coming from hydroelectric or geothermal power plants, and our cars running on electricity, hydrogen or biofuels.

Fossil fuels have been phased out in Makaar in favour of nuclear power, which accounts for 90% of all electricity generated in Makaar, with 6% coming from renewable sources (especially tidal power) and 4% coming from fossil fuels.

However, petrol is still used to power most cars; more than 90% of Makaar's private vehicles are powered by petrol, though all government-run mass transit services now use electrical power.

Ulvena focuses heavily on nuclear power. With the advent of sustained fusion in the 1990s and market availability only a few years ago, it began a race between two private companies, Future Fusion and Light Brass, to modernize the old nuclear fission plants, developing better and better fusion techniques.

In center of Ulvena, where three rivers flow through the capital city, much of their power comes from the three rivers. For other, smaller electric companies, fossil fuels are still used.

For vehicles, it's all steam and diesel. Steam cars are slowly being phased out in favor of diesel though.

Nuclear (Fusion): 34.23%
Nuclear (Fission): 46.27%
Hydroelectric: 11.5%
Fossil Fuel (Steam): 6%
Other: 2%

We are a practical lot and we emphasize on electricity sources that are actually worth installing. So-called "Green" energies are avoided because they are inefficient and are far too costly to operate on a widespread basis. Fossil fuels, nuclear energy, hydroelectricity, and geothermal are all used to some extant.

wind (also distributed rather then centralized) 21%,
geothermal 6.7%
all other, including nuclear fussion, make up the remaining .3%

The energy policy here is based on the fact that it'd be a Very Bad Thing to have billions of oil raiders hanging around HERE, with no outlet for their violent tendencies and desire to raid besides each other. It's also based on the fact that Megatron Energon is our biggest energy producer. In fact, the company has a near-monopoly on this life-sustaining product. Their Energon is almost all made from oil.

The bottom line? Oil is king, and will be until there isn't any more oil within several billion light years of Cybertron.

We do have other energy sources, especially on Earth, but they contribute only a negligible amount to our total resource pool. Plus, those that aren't owned by Megatron Energon tend to blow up if they get big enough to be competitive.

We figure that eventually, we'll have to add carbon scrubbers to the Minimum Design Specification for the Decepticon Body or else Cybertron's global warming will eventually get to the point that it would literally melt the planet into a ball of slag. But that's likely the only change that'll be made. Oil raiding is such a big part of our culture that almost everyone agrees that we just wouldn't be the Decepticons without it - and that means we need something to do with all the oil.

There is not energy policy in the Republic of Sibirsky. Private interests, finance, design, plan and build power stations, as they see fit.

The current energy sources for electrical power generation are as follows;
Nuclear 88%
Hydroelectric 6%
Thermal 3%
Solar 2%
Wind 1%

Our policy is to use renewable resources for our energy needs.

We primarily rely on hydrogen fuel cells for our vehicles and fusion and antimatter for larger vehicles as well as electricity generation.

Petrochemicals are an oddity used only by collectors of antique vehicles and quite expensive.
