Passing a law won't suddenly make a nation monolingual. Having a single recognized national language is a financial decision. Having more than one official language means that the majority of signs, legal documents, and government programs/alerts need to be written and printed twice.

I recommend choosing French as the nation's official language while continuing what it is that I assume you do now: teach both in schools. Your people are going to remain bilingual either way.
