Describe how jails look in your country. 'Jails' are rehabilitation centers in which criminals involved are taken through psycho therapy, academic education, volunteer work and have employment opportunities with the goal of ensuring they may be functioning members of society when they are released. Does your country allow abortion and euthanasia? No; the former is illegal except in cases of life-threatening pregnancies or rape, while the latter is considered murder in our star cluster.
Is capital punishment allowed in your country? Yes. Fourteen crimes (High Treason, Treason, 1st Degree Murder, 2nd Degree Murder, etc.) are punishable via public beheading, point-blank bullet trauma, and such related means.
Give a number of executions held every year: 24,402 Criminals
Does your country use torture to expose secrets from criminals? Yes, we do employ physical extraction techniques (PET) so as to degrade the willpower of our nonhuman captives-of-war & such.
Is it used to exercise political re-education? Nope. We only torture foreign spies
Describe how jails look in your country. Prisons are rather bleak and may consist of a bidet-toilet, utility-grade cot, and some sort of crude shelf-like projection layered with nanotube-reinforced white tiling for use as a dining area.
Is slavery allowed in your nation? Nope; sentient trafficking within our local star cluster is one of several capital crimes whereby the trafficker (If he/she was not blown out of interstellar space) would be subject to a firing squad.
Do people have the right to believe in any religion? Aye. All (Human) citizens have the right to follow under the doctrine of our Abrahamic-Vedic religions; non-human religions are unprotected from besmirching, however, and are even discouraged by our government.
Do people have the right to NOT believe in any religion? Yes, though atheists are rare on our territories
Do people have the right to change religion? Aye. Apostasy is, indeed, legal.
Do your country's people have the right to be heard by an impartial tribunal? Only human citizens have the right to an impartial trial; nonhumans are denied the rights our people afford due to the fact that our philosophies do not apply to them.
Do your country's people have the right to a public hearing? Yes. No official accused of a serious crime can expect privacy; watch yourself and your peers if you do not want the press on your rump!
Do your country's people have the right to interpretation? Judiciary interpretation is a regular part of our assembly process, aye.
Can your country's people have the right to speak without interference? Death threats and terrorist-hinting rhetoric are punishable under our Sedition Protocol 213.712. Otherwise, one may feel free to criticize his or her sovereigns.
Does your country's government respect citizens' private lives? To an extent. There is a point where individual freedoms must end with the needs of a collective; if our two-child policy sounds unfair, then hard-cheese to those couples whom think having a family of seven starving children is bliss.
Do your country's people have the right to get healthy food and clean water? Yes. Poisoning of our logistical supplies is a capital crime, for a post-industrial economy cannot function with otherwise-healthy citizens bedridden from Clostridium botulinum.

* - And I may refer to the country as Mid Lothian. If I do, assume that I mean Central Lothian. (And not to be confused with "Midlothian" - I'm using that as a fascist version of CL.)

Application for the People's Nation of Alfegos

APPPLICATION
==================
What is the full name of your nation? The People's Nation of Alfegos
Does your country allow abortion and euthanasia?
Abortion is allowed up until 16 weeks in all cases. It can be extended to 22 weeks in cases of rape, or with the approval of two doctors in the event of child severe disability. Abortion can be had anonymously (barring entry on medical records) at any age, though below the age of 16 the girl's parents will be informed.
Euthanasia is only allowed if a patient can demonstrate that:
- They are suffering from an incurable, permanent disease.
- The disease causes them extreme pain, either physical or mental.
- They are able to ask without being co-erced, and with all options available.
- That they have spent at least 4 months considering their options.
If these conditions are met, a court order is required from the Gra'dece court (province court), alongside the majority agreement of two medical experts, the physician treating the patient, a layperson and a judge of at least Me'dece level.

Is capital punishment allowed in your country?
Yes. Capital punishment is reserved for the most severe crimes against the state, for terrorism, for some murders, and for certain military crimes. Capital sentences can only be given at a Gra'dece court, with automatic appeal allowed to the FUCC (Fegosian Union Criminal Court) or the Ous'dece (High Court). Two rounds of appeals are allowed, in which the case is fully reassessed. Capital punishment is rarely applied though, despite being supported by a majority of the population and by most politicians.
Give a number of executions held every year:
For 2011, 9 people were executed nationwide (one per 30 million people), of 10 people originally sentenced to death in that tranche.
Does your country use torture to expose secrets from criminals?
The police are allowed to use verbal interview techniques only. The ISS (Interior Security Service), alongside military police, are able to use interrogation methods, but are banned from using torture, stress positions, deprivation of sleep or food, and other questionable practices deemed inhumane. Evidence from interrogators is not acceptable in criminal courts, whereas verbal interviews are allowed.
Is it used to exercise political re-education?
No
Describe how jails look in your country.
Prisons are tiered dependent on their aim.
- Type 3 (Low) are used for minor crimes, as rehabiliation units. Such buildings are secure, and located in industrial areas. Televisions and computers are banned, with only books and scheduled activity classes as forms of entertainment. Prisoners are housed in small cells, with few personal possessions allowed on an item-by-item assessment (so some literature may be prohibited, whereas family mementos aren't). Prisoners are required to attend classes and demonstrate learning and development, with high achievement resulting in earlier release and more amiable parole conditions. Work is light, and carried out in the surrounding units or town as voluntary work.
- Type 2 (Medium), used for more serious crimes, are out-of-town work camps, which act as rehabilitation units with hard labour. Conditions are the same as above, barring heavier labour (such as mining, machine working, road building, agriculture, etc.).
- Type 1 (High) act as confinment units for those committed to life sentences. Heavily isolated, restrictions on entertainment are heavier, and any labour is designed to remove any risk of prisoners attacking or injuring persons.
- Type A act as mental secure units for those deemed criminally insane by medical experts, rather than criminal, and requring treatment for their mental conditions.

Is slavery allowed in your nation?
No.
Do people have the right to believe in any religion?
People are able to believe in any religion not deemed a "subversive or dangerous cult, or extremist movement" by the government. Cults are allowed, as long as they do not threaten the safety of their members, or teach in violation of the laws and principles of the People's Nation. Employers and citizens are expected to respect the religious needs of others. Religious persons are not allowed to proselytise. Religion must be declared on joining sensitive government positions.
Do people have the right to NOT believe in any religion?
Yes. The proselytising laws still apply for atheism.
Do people have the right to change religion?
Yes
Do your country's people have the right to be heard by an impartial tribunal?
Trial by jury is compulsory at all courts from Me'dece (Sub-province) upwards. Pe'dece (local) courts issue summary sentences, without an impartial tribunal, though such crimes tried are heavily restricted. Jury screening is very thorough.
Do your country's people have the right to a public hearing?
Public hearings are mandatory, unless at least one party of the hearing wishes to make it private. In which case, a court order is required from a Gra'dece court.
Do your country's people have the right to interpretation?
Yes.
Can your country's people have the right to speak without interference?
As long as such speech does not count as proselytisation, abusive, threatening, indecent, libellous, or inciting any form of hatred.
Does your country's government respect citizens' private lives?
As far as is possible, privacy is respected for all citizens, unless such activities in private are illegal, or prejudice their position in a profession or government.
Do your country's people have the right to get healthy food and clean water?
Yes. All citizens must have access to clean drinking water of at least 3 litres per day, either provided by the government infrastructure or shipped in bottle form, unless not requested by certain tribal groups in the Gra'fegos rainforest. This applies to food - if food is substandard from a retailer or provider, that retailer or provider will be dealt with by the law. If unable to afford food, the government provides food and accomodation for the homeless, or provides food stamps.

Ask any further questions as necessary.

What is the full name of your nation? the City-State of Phing Phong
Does your country allow abortion and euthanasia? Abortion is legal on-demand to 12 weeks, and then legal only if the mother's life is endangered. Active euthanasia is only legal with expressed consent, while non-voluntary euthanasia, such as turning off life support, is the responsibility of the person's executor (not executioner). Involuntary euthanasia is always illegal.
Is capital punishment allowed in your country? No, it is constitutionally prohibited by interpretation.
Give a number of executions held every year: 0
Does your country use torture to expose secrets from criminals? No, torture is directly prohibited by the constitution.
Is it used to exercise political re-education? No, political reeducation does not occur.
Describe how jails look in your country. A prisoner is provided with adequate food, water, medical treatment and sanitation by default. Further privileges, such as books, television, Internet access and activities, are only allowed as a result of good behaviour. Prisoners are encouraged to take part in non-violent sports and creative activities, and all non-lifers are given the opportunity to gain qualifications. Prisoners who commit murder, crimes of a sexual nature or violent crimes are eligible for fewer privileges than other prisoners, and if they are lifers will not be rehabilitated. The end result of prison is intended to be reform and reintegration as a positive member of society if possible, and separation from society and other prisoners if not.
Is slavery allowed in your nation? No, and any slaver who enters Phing Phong can be arrested regardless of where the crimes occurred.
Do people have the right to believe in any religion? Yes, though proselytising is restricted.
Do people have the right to NOT believe in any religion? Yes, "irreligion" is recognised on an equal footing to any given religious group.
Do people have the right to change religion? Yes, religious authorities are compelled to recognise all departures from their organisations. This has caused tensions with some religious groups, notably the Muslim community, who have been fined for failing to comply.
Do your country's people have the right to be heard by an impartial tribunal? Disputes between government and citizens are dealt with by independent tribunals.
Do your country's people have the right to a public hearing? It depends on what the hearing would be about. Trials are not conducted in secret, and are filmed for future consultation if necessary.
Do your country's people have the right to interpretation? People unable to speak any recognised language of Phing Phong are provided with an interpreter, though in practice this is rare.
Can your country's people have the right to speak without interference? People may exercise freedom of speech, so long as it does not incite violence against groups or promotes the Jitepist ideology. In practice, only Jitepist symbols are banned.
Does your country's government respect citizens' private lives? Yes.
Do your country's people have the right to get healthy food and clean water? Yes.
