How much weight would the use of high impact polymers reduce vs using wood (specifically, if it helps, American Walnut)?

Somehow I doubt that has the range, wounding power and penetration at range that the VBR does.

Considerable. Depending on the gun it could be as much as a 163% weight reduction. That is, for a reasonably high quality stock. GI Joe's might only be about 50-65%.

Set up a metal target (refrigerator tray: 9x13") 200m away earlier today. Was using my father's Wehrmacht training .22LR rifle from the late-1930s. Set the rear sight to ~185m. Rested my elbows on an old tank of some kind laying on its side. Fired.

First shot was a hit.

Set the rear sight to 200m after we walked it off to confirm. Had a ~95% hit rate when resting my elbows, firing right-handed, etc.

Managed to hit it with my off-hand and non-dominant eye, as well. Also held the rifle as a pistol off-hand (both hands on the wrist of the stock) and managed a hit. Hit it off-hand with no support a couple times, and things of that nature. That rifle is stupid-accurate.

Image

Starts to make me wonder just how effective a .22LR of some kind would be for the military, especially suppressed. I know Israel uses the Ruger 10/22 in a somewhat limited role, and it seems like a decent idea.

Fuck Arsenal, Inc.'s trigger grouping and fuck Lancaster just because they're dicks. It took me probably 2.5 hours to mix-and-match my AK triggers.

I didn't want a two-stage on my SGL anymore, so I figured I'd just swap triggers with my father's AK-74. Since he's wanting that rifle to be accurate, anyway, a two-stage would benefit him. So, after spending probably 40 minutes trying to get Arsenal's beyond-fucking-stupid shepherd's hook out of my rifle using needle-nose pliers, various punches, a fucking screwdriver, and roach clips (surgical scissors), I remove the pins holding the trigger assembly and hammer. I then do the same with the Lancaster.

Almost.

I had to remove the fucking buttstock and force the hammer springs out of position before the shepherd's hook (less shitty) would move free out of the rifle on the Lancaster. I'm getting ready to swap internals when it hits me: Lancaster decided to use the two-hook TAPCO trigger. Fuck you, you fucking fucks. Since my SGL is cut for a single-hook, there was no way it'd fit. Fortunately, my WASR has/had a single-hook G2 in it. That's right: I had to disassemble the fucking WASR. Surprisingly, that Century/Romanian rifle knew what the fuck was going on, and broke down in a minute tops. So I put the two-hook G2 back into the AK-74 after replacing its TAPCO hammer with the Arsenal hammer. I go to put the Arsenal hook in (because my father won't ever change that trigger out: want to fuck with that wire the least amount possible), and it decides to get tangled up in my hammer spring. Dick. So I spent another 30 minutes using a pair of pliers and clips to bend the hook down while trying to match up the hammer pin while the giant-ass hammer springs were "lolnope"ing any attempt at that. Finally, I got it in place.

Then I went and put the TAPCO hammer in my SGL and the TAPCO single-hook G2 trigger. That was easy enough because I decided to recycle the WASR's shepherd's hook which is much simpler to use. So I fucking thought. The spring tension was too damned much on the hook for the safety lever to go back in place. Ended up having to bend it with pliers to get it to fit back in, and now those pins aren't going anywhere.

As for the WASR, I spent a good ten to fifteen minutes trying to get the fucking disconnect in place. TAPCO makes the trigger/disconnect one piece so it's simple. Arsenal goes full-retard and makes it three separate pieces: trigger, disconnect, disconnect spring. So not only do I have to make sure my trigger is lined up for its axis pin, but I have to make sure I drop this spring and disconnect in place properly, fight the spring to line the disconnect up with the pin, and hope my finger doesn't slip and the spring goes flying (again). Fuck you, Arsenal trigger group. You're a cock.

So, finally, I got everything set up: AK-74 has an Arsenal hammer, TAPCO trigger. WASR has a TAPCO hammer, Arsenal trigger. SGL has a TAPCO hammer and trigger. The shepherd's hooks were rotated AK-74 --> WASR --> Arsenal --> AK-74.

Also, I jungle-taped my TAPCO magazines today because they're not good for anything else. Turns out, one of them only holds 28 rounds in it, so fuck TAPCO, too.

/troubleinparadise

Today has just had its ups and downs.

.22LR is lethal out to 327 meters. Thats an approximation, as I don't remember the number off the top of my head, but 327 sounds right to me.

This is my personal favorite suppressed weapon of all time, on the note of suppressed weapons. With an effective range of over 200 meters (With .45, too!) and a shot that quiet, its like the assassination rifle of choice. I personally want it so I can remove the local squirrel and raccoon problem.
