The fact that we're obsessed with science and generally classified by others as being "fun-hating, nerdy, robot freaks". People do visit, but mainly because they're fascinated by our extensive research and our weapon/armor/vehicle prototypes. They don't come to see the people. We're about as interesting as neurotic, obsessed scientists usually are - which is none, unless maybe you're interested in seeing how socially maladjusted people live on a day-to-day basis.

But, most people are willing to ignore that because our natural parks are *gorgeous* (and pretty safe), recreational drug use is legal, and our culture is beautiful, so our tourism industry is thriving. Plus, vacationing here is kind of like vacationing in Morocco- people generally acknowledge that tourist money is important, and so strongly discourage one another from doing anything criminal towards the tourists. There's also a strong stigma and often chastisements by tourist boards in tourist-dependent towns against any merchants or worker's collectives hustling tourists or forming hokey tourist traps, overpriced goods, and the like- such things benefit individual businesses int he short-term but hurt the community culturally and economically in the long run.
