How your country's people greet each other

Postby Namor » Sat Jul 28, 2012 11:57 am

Namorese people used to kowtow in front of their superiors; however, after Liberation this was abolished and was replaced with the handshake.

With words. Usually "Ave" (Latin) or "Coi" (Lojban).
A simple wave is used when the subject being greeted is deemed to distant to be greeted with words. (A wave is preferable to shouting.)

"Out with it, cunt."

There's really no formal greeting for peers. Considering the vast amount of people in the GWO and the countless subcultures, the only thing you can really be sure of is that they don't kiss you, with the exception of men kissing the hands of eligible women- that's a universal thing.

However, if the Grand Commander shows up, or appears live on some sort of broadcast, it's expected that you stand, perform a Roman salute, and shout "Saluto al Duce!"

It depends on which E.S.R. you're from.

If you're from the Far Eastern E.S.R.'s, you will most likely bow and say 'Konichiwa'.
If you're from the Far Western E.S.R.'s you will most likely shake hands and say 'Hello'.
If you're from the Central E.S.R.'s you will most likely place your right fist (if addressing one more important) or left fist (if addressing someone lower) over your chest and say "Zdrasvuite."

In Nordengrund, when two or more people greet eachother, it is considered polite to shake eachother's hands and bow.

To Royalty: You kneel on one leg and bow before his/her majesty. Not doing so is considered offensive, vulgar, and uncivilized.

To an acquaintance/friend: However the hell you want.

To Superiors: Usually a handshake. The numbers briefly bow before a Britannian if he/she does not have honorary citizenship.

By saying hello or the indigenous language's equivalent, sometimes accompanied by a handshake. In the Military, one usually greets an individual of superior rank by standing at attention and saluting. It's also common for one to beat their chest, usually in regards to one of superior being.

It depends on the social situation, but in most cases, Gijinkians greet each other like any Westerners do, though usually a buttload more informal. When greeting a person of high standing, such as a military officer of superior rank, or a government official, it's proper to salute, but anything below that and a simple "Hey" is enough, or "Hey, mate" if one has already familiarised him or herself with the person. Afterwards, it's the norm to ask the person how he or she is doing.

It is usual, when greeting an acquaintance (or multiple acquantances) at a pub, to buy them a drink straight-away. It implies the person is willing to spend effort for the others, and is a sign of generosity and friendship. Afterwards, the social norm is taking turns on buying each other's drinks. Not taking this kind of action is considered rude and implies selfishness.

Typically with a blessing, where Person A would touch his forehead to Person B's hand in a sort of bowing motion, normally it's polite for the one who was being greeted to say "Aghápi" afterwards, as a way to say thank you before blessing the other person back. Though this is more of a formal greeting, it's considered incredibly respectful, or sometimes rude if done improperly. To say a simple"Hello", we say "Zwé"
"Everything takes time. Bees have to move very fast to stay still."

People not particularly familiar with each other generally greet by giving a nod and grunt, without making eye contact. People who are familiar with each other have some manner of private greeting ritual which is deliberately non-standard. This means that outsiders will not recognize the greeting, so in the event of a misidentification, you avoid the embarrassment of having accidentally greeted the wrong person. Additionally, failure to properly return the greeting means that an impostor is readily identified. Thus it is very difficult for an infiltrating lizardman to get away with simply wearing someone's skin. Not that there ARE any lizardmen, but you can never be too careful.
