Consumption of Human Flesh in Your Nation

Postby Vault 1 » Fri Jul 27, 2012 12:26 pm

Is there any tradition of human flesh consumption in your nation, and, if so, who, where and how eats it?
What is the legal status of the practice and social attitudes towards it?
What culinary names do you use for human meat?
Any particularly popular recipes?

In Vault 10, human meat consumption is completely legal, socially semi-accepted on "don't ask, don't tell" basis, and serves as a staple food for the poor.
It takes enormous effort to produce beef in closed environments of underground Vaults, and anything even surviving on the surface tends to be too radioactive. Imported meat is expensive. On the other hand, with our high murder rate, there is always a steady supply of "the other white meat".

Bodies of the dead are collected, tested for plague contamination, and disassembled. Useful organs are removed from hospital deaths, skinned to make affordable leather furniture, and the flesh is minced in industrial grinders.

Culinary names for it go through an euphemism mill. Known early on as "game of the street", it has since been called "mystery meat", "daily hunt", "soymeat+", "butcher's special" and is currently served as "mixed meats". Mixed Meats are indeed mixed, and usually consist of:
5%-10% ex-quality meat - discards from restaurants, expired, and so on
10%-45% anthrax cattle - shipping it to V10 is still cheaper than safe disposal
25%-70% human flesh - depending on recent local gang wars and massacres
2%-5% spices - covering up aromas and flavors

These mixed meats are combined with hydroponically grown substitutes and packaged into patties. These are then used primarily to make burgers at low-cost public food service establishments.
A painful, but fortunately reasonably quick expiry awaits over 90% of outlanders and about 3% of Vaultians who elect to try "the cheapest burger on the menu". Fortunately, even the lowliest of fast-food places have a 6-foot fridge and the local meat house on speed dial.

Absolutely banned. It is an abomination, a disgrace to Ytsa herself. Anyone attempting to consume the flesh of their brothers or sisters in faith, regardless of reason, will be summarily executed by impalement.

Is there any tradition of human flesh consumption in your nation, and, if so, who, where and how eats it? There is no tradition- it's just another thing to consume.
What is the legal status of the practice and social attitudes towards it? It's widely accepted under the "food is food" doctrine we have.
What culinary names do you used for human meat? Culinary? Well, we have names like "Man in a Can," "Manwich," and the widely-loved "Poisoned Prostitute Platter," named for when it was first served by force-feeding poison mushrooms to a hooker and cooking her alive.
Any particularly popular recipes? The last one mentioned above. ^

It is legal, but expensive mostly. It is considred more of a delicacy and mostly only the Royalty or the bit wealthier types can afford it. Not that it is crushingly expensive. But just enough to keep the demand a bit lower.

We mostly only use volunteers (people who have donated their bodies after they have died) and prisoners for the meat though. Like criminals or the occasional war prisoner. We try not to be too harsh on them though and make their passing a bit less painful, usually.

Absolutely not. For moral and practical reasons, cannibalism is completely outlawed. However, there are growing reports of some illegal restaurants serving such meat. The parliament is still deciding, but it looks like the government will stamp this out.

It's illegal, and those who are found to consume human flesh under any circumstance are branded as 'Wendigos'. Wendigos have their own special way of being executed in Sacheyenya so they do not posess the hearts of others with their dark ways, in life or in death. There are a few exceptions, such as in some religious matters (warriors on the battlefield mostly). As such, Catholics tend to be avoided in certain areas and are branded as Wendigos in said areas.

I believe there is, like, two instances of cannibalism within our borders. Both were in dire circumstances and were done for survival.

It's actually quite common, since as a nation of Non-Humans, it isn't cannibalism. Plus, Man Flesh is actually quite tasty if you prepare it right and add the right spices and sauces.

Frowned upon, cannibalism is not encouraged and Quarians dislike the idea of eating human flesh.

Now if it is something like a dragon animal or even another primate (Jiralhanae) humans wouldn't mind.

For moral and practical reasons, cannibalism is absolutely outlawed. Also the eating of any sapient being flesh - be they elf, dwarf, etc.

There rumors that it occurs in some of the Orc or Goblin Nations.

Is there any tradition of human flesh consumption in your nation, and, if so, who, where and how eats it?
We have a strict rule that you must eat what you kill, which is directly related to our hunting and gathering culture. But we are also a warrior culture which has different implications. Many scholars believe that Fatatatutti's inherent pacifism stems from the awkward juxtaposition of the warrior tradition and the eat-what-you-kill policy.

The only recorded instance of cannibalism in Fatatatutian history was more than a hundred years ago when a would-be king tried to usurp power and in the ensuing struggle he was accidentally killed and eaten. A popular T-shirt has the slogan, "We eat royalty," but some scholars believe the incident is a myth.

What is the legal status of the practice and social attitudes towards it?
Killing people for food would be strictly taboo but if somebody is already dead, there are no particular legal or social restrictions against eating them.

What culinary names do you used for human meat?
"Long pig" is the traditional euphemism.

Any particularly popular recipes?
The running joke is that you should remove the crown before cooking.

The consumption of human flesh is legal in the nation of Freedom, but only a small minority of the population practice it. Murder is definitely illegal, so human flesh is very hard to obtain.

We are a nation of velociraptors, so all humans are food to us. Human meat is popular due to the fact that it scares our human enemies. The most popular human recipe is Liver & Bacon with fava beans and a nice chianti.
