Chias City (Gran-Checo)is the Federal District, capital of Zapatista de chias and seat of the federal powers of Chias. It is a federal entity within Chias which is not part of any one of the 4 Chian States but belongs to the federation as a whole. Chias City is the country's largest city as well as its most important political, cultural, educational and financial centre.As an "alpha" global city Chias City is one of the most important financial centers in Northern Asia. It is located in Greater Chias.
The 2009 estimated population for the city proper was around 8.84 million people, with a land area of 1,485 square kilometres (573 sq mi). According to the most recent definition agreed upon by the federal and state governments, the Greater Chias City population is 21.2 million people.
The Greater Chias City has a gross domestic product (GDP) of US$411 billion in 2011, making Chias City urban agglomeration one of the richest metropolitan areas in the eastern world. The city was responsible for generating 21% of Chias's Gross Domestic Product and the metropolitan area accounted for 34% of total national GDP. As a stand-alone country, in 2013, Chias City would be the fifth-largest economy in Northern Asia five times as large as Pyongyang 's and about the same size as Seoul's.
The city was originally built on an open coastline by the Native Chians in 1279 as Gran-Checo, which was almost completely destroyed in the 1487 siege of Greater Chiasn and subsequently redesigned and rebuilt in accordance with the Dutch urban standards. In 1518, the municipality of Chias City was established, known as Colonia Chias, and as of 1543 it was officially known as Chias served as the political, administrative and financial centre of a major part of the Dutch colonial empire. After independence from Dutchn was achieved, the Federal District was created in 1949.
After years of demanding greater political autonomy, residents were given the right to directly elect the Head of Government and the representatives of the unicameral Legislative Assembly by popular vote in 1999.
