Gun laws in your nation

Postby Shivae » Sun Jul 22, 2012 7:55 pm

What are gun laws in your nation?
Here there are very lax gun laws.A civilian can even buy a military grade weapon, except for rocket launchers and grenade launchers, however they are allowed to own grenades, just not inciderary.

Depends where you are, in the city Gun laws are much more strict, and you are not allowed to carry them in public unless a Police officer or Military officer. In rural areas they are much more lax, to the higher abundance of wildlife and need for protection/food.

We barely have any, accept that you need a permit and must be over 20 years of age. It also depends on your criminal record

In the TBRE, gun laws are quite strict here, save for the service rifle you get during conscription. In which case, it is law to keep it ready for use (but not to actually use it unless during a war).

It is illegal to be in possession of a firearm unless one is a member of the Armed Response Unit of the National Police, or a current member of the National Militia, or a sport shooter.

What are gun laws in your nation?

Next to nonexistent. It is not a crime for the people to arm themselves.

The near-ubiquity of military service creates an interesting regulatory situation with regard to possession of firearms, artillery, and other ordnance. First off, the rifle you are issued upon entry into the military is basically yours for the remainder of your life, remains with you in your home, and may be freely carried in public during both active duty and reserve service; therefore 85+ percent of citizens between the ages of 18 and 38 will probably be seen in public with military-issue assault rifles at some point in their lives, and this is not a matter of concern.

Guns and ammo are freely available for purchase barring conviction of a violent crime or serious mental health issues because military training instills enough discipline around firearms that there are few if any firearm accidents due to stupidity. Therefore, upon entering military service all cadets are issued lifelong permits for up to four additional handguns or military-style long guns (e.g. ARs, Mossberg Chainsaws, certain bullpup shotguns, etc) both for conceal and carry and open carry, and these permits are only revoked in the case of commission of a violent crime or failure to pass a basic psychological assessment. Citizens who opt for community/civilian service who wish to carry weapons may choose to take a comprehensive course in proper maintenance and handling of firearms, and equivalent permits are issued upon successful completion. Permits are generally not necessary for target-shooting and hunting weapons, and there are few real limitations on purchase of such weapons.

You're not going to see serious ordnance (RPGs/launchers, howitzers, etc.) in the hands of ordinary citizens, but homebrewing is basically legal, and in fact many introductory college chemistry courses include an RDX synthesis laboratory (for the benefit of those whose parents wouldn't let them foul the shed or the kitchen with nitric acid). The government actively encourages participation in target shooting sports as well as experimentation with fireworks, explosives, potato cannons, etc. in one's backyard on the rationale that (a) the more comfortable you are with such things growing up the more common sense you're likely to have when you use them for real in the service and (b) parents of families that allow and encourage experimentation with explosives will be comfortable enough with ordnance from their time in the armed forces that they'll be able to prevent their children from getting seriously injured. There were some temporary restrictions (and a fair amount of controversy) after the 1983 New Cardiff subway bombings, but people generally agreed that the problem was with the presence of terrorists rather than the availability of explosives and the restrictions were soon repealed.

Airguns

Allowed 'Firearms' for Vecerian Civilians ate the age of 12+:

In Veceria, civilians have to make a weapon- license exam (WLE) if they want to own a weapon. Only civilians without any mental- health problems are allowed to do the WLE.

Allowed Firearms for Civilians with a positive WLE:

Rifles (no fully automatic rifles, calibres up to .40 or up to 10mm)

Members of the Vecerian National Army, City Watch, Border Control, Special Forces, other Military Organisations under the control of the Vecerian Government, and the Vecerian Police are allowed to buy and operate every gun issued by the Vecerian government as military available.

Only millitary and police can use them.
But, the millitary is small, so...

in Gitchie Manito gun laws are very restrictive. You have to register to purchase weaponry as well as going through an extensive criminal and psychological check.

This isn't too much of a problem since Gitchie Manitans are pacifistic anyway

What are gun laws in your nation?

The common view in the Commonwealth of Rekta is that there are two things which a man should not often be without - His Bible, and his gun. If he's a military officer, you may add "and his whisky flask" to that list, but you get the idea.

There are no registrations, no extensive licensing processes, and we do not treat innocent, honest, morally upright people like criminals or children.

San Leggera's gun laws are fairly lax. However, if someone commits murders, etc, their right to own guns is revoked.

You need a license and the most powerful weapon you can own is a hunting rifle. Gun rights are a very hot issue in Felix Terra.

Veceria, .40 cal and 10mm are pistol rounds, not rifle class ammo.

He said "up to" .40-caliber/10mm. Therefore, it sounds like pretty much everything except .50BMG rifles and other anti-material/anti-vehicle cartridges. Not too horribly different from the United States.

There aren't really any "laws" so to speak, however there is one stipulation; If you can hold it,you can have it.This aplies to anything from a handgun to a rocket launcher.Age doesen't play any part.If you can't hold it,you can't have it.
