Language education in you're nation

Postby Sedikal » Fri Jul 20, 2012 11:39 am

How is language education in your nation? How many languages are you students tought of any?

In Sedikal we have three national languages that all studios are expected to be fluent in all three. Russian, Japanese, and Hebrew are spoken in the surrounding nations so those are thought as well.

In Altorum, only Latin is required to be learned. However, High School students do need two years of Spanish education and two years of French education to move on to college.
A peacemongering, pseudo-isolationist state with a large, well-funded military but mediocre social programs.

Willing to host peace conferences within Altorum. TG if interested.

This nation does not represent my own political views.

We teach English for the first 3 years, English and Italian for the next six, then Italian, French, Japanese and Spanish are optional subjects, although it is recommended one choose at least one of those subjects.

(Also, slightly ironic that you put 'you're' in the title instead of 'your')

I realized that just after I posted the topic and I don't think I can change the title.

Students are encouraged to learn at least one foreign language. Which language they do learn depends on the school, with languages such as Old English being taught in some places for reasons unknown.

In Fatatatuti, there are no language requirements. Student are free to study whatever languages they want. English is popular, of course, because of its usefulness in real life. Many recent immigrants also want their children to learn their native tongues but they are often taught outside the formal education system. There has been an effort lately to bring back the native Fatatatutian language which had all but died out a generation ago. We are currently at the stage where teachers are being trained but in the next decade, it is expected to become a major factor.

Allemmanik Mól being the national language is a given, English and German are the two languages one can learn in school. Well, those two are the most popular.

We do teach them, but we tell people to use our national language (Mandicorian, which is a mixture of English, German, Russian, and Italian) when communicating. It makes people in the country feel seperated if they talk in any other.

English is primary. Students wishing to attend college learn French, Spanish, or Chinese. We also teach Russian, German, Swahili, Portugese, Gaelic, and Japanese in our High Schools as optional courses.

In Varijnland, there are two main languages, Varijnlaans, which is spoken by roughly 66% of our population as a first language. The other language is Old Anglo-Norse, it is spoken by those in the Pagan North of the country, where many villages are isolated. Schools in the Dutch-Varijnland regions learn Old Anglo-Norse up to the age of 16 whereas in the North, only some well funded schools learn Varijnlaans. There are also a few isolated native communities, most of which don't know a word of either language.

Retiring from NS, I wish you all the best in your future endevours :)

All citizens of Helcasia must be literate and fluent in both Lojban & Latin. A student is expected to be fluent in both Lojban & Latin by the age of 10, else they risk execution. Students must also be proficient in Helcasian Sign Language.
Students are also taught about and learn to write in several writing scripts such as Latin, Greek, Cyrillic, & Tengwar.
In Addition, students learn Morse code, Binary code, HTML, & Javascript.

The Helcasian education system also offers students a choice from Russian, Hebrew, Arabic, French, Mandarin, Klingon, Sindarin, Greek, & Finnish. They must learn at least one of these alongside Lojban, Latin, & Helcasian Sign Language.

Language education in our nation is highly emphasized with all students graduating from secondary and tertiary schools with fluency in three or more languages. Those who only speak a single language are the mentally incompetent. These individuals are only expected to learn Greek, all others are required to learn Latin, English, French and German - it's just good for capitalism if one speaks multiple languages. Any other languages acquired along the way are considered beneficial as well but there is no requirement. Multiple languages are often spoken at home as part of the educational process, however, Greek is primarily used. The language requirement for education is based on what the current economy requires; Greek and Latin have always been the primary languages of our economy with the secondary languages varying from era to era.

We have three languages - English, French and Spanish - and you have to learn two of them.

(I would have made a remark about the title, but it's already been done.)
Please note: Central Lothian is the direct successor to Mid Lothian*. As a result, I am still called Rebecca, I am still a Grammar Nazi and most information pertaining to ML also applies to CL (although I will be taking this time to change a few things).

* - And I may refer to the country as Mid Lothian. If I do, assume that I mean Central Lothian. (And not to be confused with "Midlothian" - I'm using that as a fascist version of CL.)

Foreign language classes are in every High School in Ulvena. The options that the Empire public schools offer are: Spanish, Old Ulvenan, Japanese, German, French, and Chinese. Learning a foreign language is REQUIRED. It's just a matter of which one that the student gets to decide.

Enarian national regulation only mandates the teaching of English, the de facto official language of the nation, and at least one foreign language per school system. The specific foreign languages offered and required for graduation vary by the individual school system and additional local mandates.

The primary language in Kyzen is English, as most people emigrated from America to come to this particular lunar nation. Every citizen is required to know how to speak it. In high school, all students must also learn Russian and Chinese, as this is what the surrounding lunar colonies speak.

Tsvarchi requires students to learn English, and then they have a language elective option.

So at the very least, a Tsvarchivan is fluent in three languages by the time they graduate from school and head to college or university.
