Toll stations in your country

Postby Namor » Fri Jun 22, 2012 5:49 am

Only Namor's superhighways have tolls. Fares usually range from one to two Ramons.
Toll booths are 100% electronic. They have detectors, radars, all that fancy stuff that can detect a car when it passes the booth.

The driver pays by putting the money in a machine, then drives away upon permission of the machine.
The money goes to the government, which uses the money to help benefit the highway system. This way, drivers have a better road to drive on, and the government gets rich. Everybody wins!

We do not believe in tolls or taxes. You do not pay taxes on anything in Nordengrund except sales tax. You can also give tithe to the church if you want.

Toll booths were declared unconstitutional as a violation of the Bill of Right's Freedom of Movement Clause. One cannot be charged to use a public access roadway.

We believe that all user fees, sales taxes, toll, etc. are inherently wrong. Everybody benefits from the roads, whether they use them directly or not, so they are paid for by income taxes.

The city centres of Makaar's largest cities are toll zones. Cars driving into these zones have their plates read by an automatic number-plate reader (ANPR) camera, which checks it against a database of exempted vehicle registrations. If no exemption applies to that vehicle, its registered owner is sent a S. 5.00 charge. The charge is designed to encourage people to use the mass transit systems available in such cities

Exemptions are applied to vehicles driven by those with mobility disabilities; vehicles owned by a company based inside the zone; vehicles owned by those who live inside the zone; emergency services vehicles, and public transport (including taxis). Delivery vehicles are also exempt, but only those which are used exclusively for business purposes; a pizza delivery boy using his personal vehicle to make deliveries does not qualify for an automatic exemption but must instead prove that he was on a delivery once he receives the charge. This is usually done by means of submitting an employment schedule from the employer.
Makaar is ranked 323rd in the world for Most Dedicated Public Healthcare.
Makaar is ranked 272nd in the world for Largest Welfare Programs (per capita).
Makaar is ranked 408th in the world for Nicest Citizens.

Toll roads are used by government officials to screen the amount of travel near military areas and look pretty scary, more like an Army checkpoint than a toll road.. needless to say it works on keeping away civilians from the bases.

Since we no longer have any automobiles, tolls on roadways have of course become redundant. There was a question of tolling the riding of animals on pedestrian roads; but this was impractical and brought up questions of civil rights, so the idea was ditched.

Our system is very similar but less visible. Most of our long distance roads are privately - run toll roads. You can buy an electronic pass so you are billed automatically and can drive the whole distance without stopping if you have the fuel and account for it. The payments pay for the roadwork (generally performed by subcontractors), thus largely eliminating the need to collect taxes for road upkeep. To save money, most lower - income people use electric busses on these roads.

We don't have toll roads - but we do have about 15 toll bridges around CL.
Please note: Central Lothian is the direct successor to Mid Lothian*. As a result, I am still called Rebecca, I am still a Grammar Nazi and most information pertaining to ML also applies to CL (although I will be taking this time to change a few things).

* - And I may refer to the country as Mid Lothian. If I do, assume that I mean Central Lothian. (And not to be confused with "Midlothian" - I'm using that as a fascist version of CL.)

During rush hour all major roadways and highways use cameras to capture license plates and driver faces and we send out tickets. They are not punitive tickets, all proceeds go to the repairs of the roads, however late fees still apply.

When your country’s main form of transportation is airships and submarines, it’s kinda hard to enforce tolls. Instead, all public docking bays require a fee to use.

There are very few toll stations in the TBRE, save for the part of the Autobahn that is permitted for racing (although there is no speed limit, one is advised to use these racing sections, partially for safety and partially because it was designed for it).

There are toll roads as well as bicycle toll roads here. Their fees range from 2c to 3.5c/per mile. Most toll systems rely on tickets. You arrive at a toll plaza when you are getting on to the freeway and get a ticket giving the exit you started and the tolls to travel to all other exits. When you arrive at the exit, the toll booth attendant will read the table and ask for the price shown.

There was a scandal in 2005 when it was revealed that members of the Department of Transportation had authorized the secret implementation of high-tech scanning equipment to scan licence plates at various exits on I-270, the freeway that surrounds all of the capital metro area. The equipment scanned the licence plate and then used that information to access that driver's checking account and deduct as much as H500 (about US$800). Worst of all, it wouldn't appear on their bank statement.

The workers at the Department of Transportation were reportedly using the money to fund lavish parties in Astoria, a tropical island that is a dependency of Haydenish People. There were six people involved and they were fined each the equivalent of US$450,000 and sentenced to 20 years in prison.

Toll roads are most common in major cities, where private enterprise tends to build inner city highways or bridges.

There are two options - either you can stop at the booth before hand and pay, or alternatively your license plate will be photographed and you will be tracked down and billed if you don't pay online within a period of 3 days.

There are no tollways anywhere in the republic.
The old toll stations have been converted into highway patrol stations, and the booths were dismantled and recycled.

Only highways (which mostly have no speed limit), major bridges, or specific roads with a history of traffic congestion have toll gantries installed. These gantries automatically deduct credit from a toll payment unit mounted in every vehicle. The toll payment unit can be fed by stored value cards or employ a GIRO system to pay toll fees using funds from a bank account directly.

Toll fees on highways range from 0.20C (Chrome, 1C is approximately equal to 1.50 NSD) for motorcycles, to 1.40C for heavy vehicles. Toll fees on roads with a history of traffic congestion can range from as little as 0.10C for a motorcycle during off-peak hours, to 2.80C for a heavy vehicle during peak hours.
