What is the main military weapon of your country?

Postby Boreal Tundra » Mon Feb 15, 2010 5:53 pm

Boreal Tundra uses the R5 rifle series. The cartridge has similar ballistics to 6.5mm Grendel with a longer, slimmer case allowing for easier use with belted feed systems.

Image

We also have a MG system similar to the Heckler & Koch MG4 using the same round.

Note, these are original production versions and have been upgraded (more rails etc)

Actually it's a piss-poor backwater. This was sort of extrapolated from how I imagine UAWC's nation, without the communes and a slightly more centralised government. You can think of it as an anarchic North Korea, for lack of a better explanation.

Sorry I've left this reply for so long, Ive been just a tad busy. The stock is too small to conceal anything, its just a folding stock after all, on the full stock version there's a concealed compartment for cleaning kit storage. In terms of ambushes, it is my belief that training overcomes such issues, rather than answering the question with exponential volume of fire. The size and weight of those LMG magazines cause more trouble than their worth when used by a rifleman, if every man had to lug those things round the battlefield, they wouldn't be too pleased, believe me. A nice 20/30 round magazine makes the rifle much neater and much easier to handle, whilst LMGs have to be laid down, or propped up in order to be comfortable and stable enough to use. So turning something than needs high manoeuvrability into something that slows that agility down is inadvisable. The smallest unit of combat infantry (Fireteam consisting of 4 men) always has one automatic rifleman armed with an LMG, so he ultimately is the one who keeps the enemy's heads down with a higher "volume of fire" rather than exercising true "fire-power".

So, I thought I'd try my hand at a bulpup rifle. Comments? Critizism?
Just keep in mind that I did this for fun, it'll never see production in any means. Also, I know next to nothing about bulpups, just what I've seen and read in this thread.

Its a bullpup, by default better that a long rifle. Don't be swayed by the general anti-bullpup feelings on NS. They are great guns, compact, accurate and hard hitting. They may be uncomfortable in the hands of someone who has used nothing but long rifles but in the hands of a soldier who has trained and drilled with a bullpup the flaws melt away, the many benefits however do not.

I've seen it on other forums when threads get stupidly long. The forum software isn't really programmed to take this sort of abuse.

If your rifle stock is just a hollow hunk of plastic, throw a collapsing cleaning rod and some jags in there. Think something like the SKS. I know what you mean about the weight of a large mag, though.

Same reason why the infantry uses a fifty pound rifle with no sights, he saw it in a movie or video game and it looked cool.

Snipers from each branch use the LSR1
The LMG1 is used in MG nests which are placed on top of walls or towers.

In following its tradition of making things simpler at lower costs, the Verloreni Arms Manufacturing sector has announced a solution to the close-quarters problems encountered by rifle-wielding troops. Chambered for the same round (10mm), the Albert-Johnston MP-75 and the Verloreni Service Issue Officer's Pistol were produced in tandem for simplicity and cost-effectiveness for the Verloreni Defense Forces.

The Albert-Johnston MP-75, named for its co-creators Niels Albert and Berrigill Johnston, utilizes a basic contruction that allows for mass production in assembly lines on the homefront. Comprised of only about two dozen pressed-steel components, little luxury is lavished on this "spray and pray" weapon and its main advantage is that it is widely available for troop use. The only real drawback to the MP-75 is its primitive "blowback" operation, which results in a comparatively low rate of fire, but so far has not been a serious issue in the field. A collapsable stock gives users slightly increased accuracy at longer distances, however the effective range is limited to close-quarters engagements.

Caliber: 10mm
Length: 680mm (26.77in)
Weight: 2.55kg (5.62lbs)
Barrel: 225mm (8.85in), 6 grooves, right hand
Feed / Magazine Capacity: 30-Round Detachable Box
Operation: Blowback
Cyclic Rate of Fire: 550rpm
Muzzle Velocity: 350mps (1148fps)
Effective Range: 70m (230ft)

The Verloreni Service Issue Officer's Pistol was developed in an attempt to standardize all VDF sidearms, which varied widely. As a result, the constant supply of various and outdated rounds became too expensive and complicated for the Quartermaster's Office to handle. Enter the Service Issue Officer's Pistol. Also chambered for the 10mm round, this sidearm is a simple short-recoil handgun built for durability and accuracy in combat conditions. Magazines are inserted into pistol grip and spent cartridges are ejected from the cocking piece/short slide assembly. Initial field testing reports are satisfactory.

Caliber: 10mm
Length: 254mm (10in)
Weight: 1.25kg (2.75lbs)
Barrel: 190mm (7.5in), 6 grooves, right hand
Feed / Magazine Capacity: 15-Round Detachable Box Magazine
Operation: Short Recoil
Muzzle Velocity: 350mps (1148fps)
Effective Range: 40m (131ft)

Wait why would aircrews use a 29-pound weapon?

Same reason why the infantry uses a fifty pound rifle with no sights, he saw it in a movie or video game and it looked cool.

MORITA is from Starship Troopers BTW, it's just a bullpup extended Mini-14 mated to a Remington 870, covered up in a nice casing. Shit actually fires and is not 50 pounds. Moar liek 15, but it's still a bitch to lug around, being 5 feet long and all.

Officer's Pistol looks like a Luger, and I congratulate you on making a pistol out of a PMG with no such parts.

I know what the Morita is. Its from that fail of a movie that has absolutely nothing to do with its name sake, because Verhooven got bored after two pages. Its ugly as hell, its bulky, it has a shit sight radius for a rifle its size, probably doesn't have sights designed in, and is pretty much the prime example of why people who have no clue about guns shouldn't be allowed to design them.
