The main military weapon used by the great Asneiran militiaman/farmer is the venerable Mosin-Nagant bolt action rifle. The People's Militia also uses the AK-47 assault rifle and RPG-7, being a poor, backwater, third-world nation we cannot afford fancy toys like these other countries. Asneiran children are taught from a young age to hate black, white, Asian and Latin people, unless they are of course those of the glorious Juche, despite being a predominantly Asian and Arayan culture themselves care for, fire, maintain and repair a weapon, so as to push back the evil foreign imperialists in the event of an invasion.

In following its tradition of making things simpler at lower costs, the Verloreni Arms Manufacturing sector has announced a solution to the close-quarters problems encountered by rifle-wielding troops. Chambered for the same round (10mm), the Albert-Johnston MP-75 and the Verloreni Service Issue Officer's Pistol were produced in tandem for simplicity and cost-effectiveness for the Verloreni Defense Forces.

The Albert-Johnston MP-75, named for its co-creators Niels Albert and Berrigill Johnston, utilizes a basic contruction that allows for mass production in assembly lines on the homefront. Comprised of only about two dozen pressed-steel components, little luxury is lavished on this "spray and pray" weapon and its main advantage is that it is widely available for troop use. The only real drawback to the MP-75 is its primitive "blowback" operation, which results in a comparatively low rate of fire, but so far has not been a serious issue in the field. A collapsable stock gives users slightly increased accuracy at longer distances, however the effective range is limited to close-quarters engagements.

Caliber: 10mm
Length: 680mm (26.77in)
Weight: 2.55kg (5.62lbs)
Barrel: 225mm (8.85in), 6 grooves, right hand
Feed / Magazine Capacity: 30-Round Detachable Box
Operation: Blowback
Cyclic Rate of Fire: 550rpm
Muzzle Velocity: 350mps (1148fps)
Effective Range: 70m (230ft)

The Verloreni Service Issue Officer's Pistol was developed in an attempt to standardize all VDF sidearms, which varied widely. As a result, the constant supply of various and outdated rounds became too expensive and complicated for the Quartermaster's Office to handle. Enter the Service Issue Officer's Pistol. Also chambered for the 10mm round, this sidearm is a simple short-recoil handgun built for durability and accuracy in combat conditions. Magazines are inserted into pistol grip and spent cartridges are ejected from the cocking piece/short slide assembly. Initial field testing reports are satisfactory.

Caliber: 10mm
Length: 254mm (10in)
Weight: 1.25kg (2.75lbs)
Barrel: 190mm (7.5in), 6 grooves, right hand
Feed / Magazine Capacity: 15-Round Detachable Box Magazine
Operation: Short Recoil
Muzzle Velocity: 350mps (1148fps)
Effective Range: 40m (131ft)

Actually it's a piss-poor backwater. This was sort of extrapolated from how I imagine UAWC's nation, without the communes and a slightly more centralised government. You can think of it as an anarchic North Korea, for lack of a better explanation.

I'm saying that you don't get to brag about a weapon being versatile when you have one for pointing north and one for pointing south.

A pistol is a sidearm. An assault rifle is for assaults and storming positions. A battle rifle is for engagements at a bit longer range. However, we like to make it so that these weapons can, figuratively, point north, south, east and west if they need to despite their original purpose.

Fatatatutti wrote:And that's the problem. When it's the only weapon you have, it damn well better do. We have rough terrain (and you claim that you do too) so an infantryman has to carry everything with him. There are no trucks for resupply. If he's lucky, he might get an air drop but as a matter of course, he'd better have what he needs and need what he has. He can't be carrying an artillery piece like your automatic shotgun, along with twenty kilos of ammunition for a few seconds of burp.

-- Gen. Castro-Stalina

Yes, this is true, and we limit the shotguns to jungles and urban terrain. The FPMS-3 is our main rifle and we use it more than any other weapon.

It would be nice if you knew what the exact range was going to be, so you could bring the appropriate weapon with you. Or... you could use a versatile weapon that can handle both situations.

Good luck with that. I'd really like to see you hit something with a .45 at 800 feet, especially with that short of a barrel.

Also unless that mag is quadruple-stacked, there's no way you're getting 40 rounds in there.

We're going to bring our battle rifle in wide-open areas, because it can handle both situations yet it better than the assault rifle for long-range conflict.

What if there's a closed-in area right next to the wide-open area and the enemy doesn't co-operate by staying in the area that's most convenient for you? Do you call a truce while you go home and get a better weapon?

Fatatatutti;

A jack of all trades is a master of none; whilst it's better to have weapons that can fulfill multiple roles, there will both be an invitable decrease in effectiveness at certain ranges, and a subsequent requirement for other weapons. My view on the matter is that instead of taking too much time on trying to use modular weapons, the squad as a whole should be made versatile. Whether this is through their weapons, their training, your usage or all three is your choice.

I have a rifle (AR8) which is modular (Ultrashort, CQB barrel, Standard Carbine, Rifle, Automatic Rifle, DMR), but troops genrally carry SAWs and AR6A4 Designated Marksmen's Rifles into combat, simply because they are better at what they do.

Truthfully my entire military is based off of the idea of using several specialized weapons, the average platoon has 6 battle rifles, 2 sniper rifles, 2 LMGs, and 2 grenade rifles as well as 15 assault rifles. While normally the use of so many different firearms would be a nightmare for logistics, my nation uses the R2 advanced combat system (or whatever it is called), in which weapons can use several different rounds (ex. a battle rifle can fire the assault rifle rounds, or even sub machine gun rounds).

This rifle is the brainchild from the fresh, young and relatively inexperienced, Borys Vlasjuk, an engineer employed by Sich Factories (SZ). It uses a brand new, patented balanced gas operating system, allowing it to fire a 7.62 x 50mm round whilst retaining a level of accuracy described as "superb" in Solyhniya's recent assault rifle tests. The AV-9 looks set to shake up the status quo in the Solyhniyan arms industry and may soon be widely adopted by the armed forces if it continues to succeed in the test phase.

Any comments? Should have stuck with something more like a 6.8?

Well, with the round it uses, that's a battle rifle, so I think a longer barrel is in order. If you want to call it an assault rifle I suggest 6.5 Grendel.

Or, if you want, we can export 7.62x39mmC to your country. It's much more lethal than the M43 and M67 7.62 short because like the 5.45x39, it has a hollowed-out space in the bullet which causes tumbling on impact. And it'l still go through some obstacles and punch right through armor, too.

I don't really know why I used the 7.62x50. Better would have been a Solyhniyan variant of the 7.62x45 (since we never use foreign calibers unless intended for export). We already have a DM rifle firing the 7.62x51. It's pretty old and outdated, but packs a punch and does its job. With the AV-9, we wanted a medium-range rifle (ready to rival the ASL series) with simultaneously increased stopping power and AP. As for a hollowed-out space, I'm pretty sure that technology is illegal according the Hague Convention.

The Anglo-Saxon Empire wrote:I like the idea of using a full sized battle rifle round, which would allow you to defeat armies that are using modern body armour. As for everything else, it seems like an ordinary rifle. Lastly I have never heard of the 7.62x50mm round, are you sure you don't mean the 7.62x51mm NATO.

The x50 is just to differentiate from the NATO round. In reality, the difference is only a matter of μm which brings it closer to 50mm. Like the 6.78, it's a KRS-made round, as we dislike relying on anything foreign, especially the stuff keeping our troops alive.

I was thinking of experimenting with longer barrels. In fact, I think I'll try that now...

UAWC stop stating the supposed power of your 7.62x39C, it is not a better round than the 5.56 NATO, or the 5.8x42mm round. Also what round you use should depend on who you are fighting, and where you are fighting. If you are going to fight under equipped rebels, militia, or insurgents in an urban setting go for the 5.56 NATO, or something similar. If you are fighting well equipped modern armies or you are going to fight in wide open country sides go for the 7.62 NATO, or something similar, you may even want to go as high as a 7.62x63mm round.

Our present enemies - secular terrorist, insurgent forces from the old, Chinese communist regime of Kurzhevsk with links to the Mafia - are very well-funded. Most open firefights our forces have undergone in recent years have been against armoured foes, such as the aforementioned regime and the splinter cells arising from its downfall.

Most Solyhniyan ARs use 6.78 rounds. We do produce one 5.56 NATO bullpup assault rifle, the Spaškov AB-4, however it is manufactured only for export.

In your case I would recommend something bigger than the 5.56 NATO, if they have top of the line armour NIJ level III or higher I would recommend using the 7.62 NATO, if they are using level IV armour 7.62x63mm rounds.

In your case I would recommend something bigger than the 5.56 NATO, if they have top of the line armour NIJ level III or higher I would recommend using the 7.62 NATO, if they are using level IV armour 7.62x63mm rounds.

Between you and us, that's why we developed the thermite round. The legality of its use in war is... possibly disputable. Nonetheless, it does mean you can use a smaller round. At the same time, a round too small won't embed in the first place.

[/spoiler]
In your case I would recommend something bigger than the 5.56 NATO, if they have top of the line armour NIJ level III or higher I would recommend using the 7.62 NATO, if they are using level IV armour 7.62x63mm rounds.

Can't LIV stop a .30-06 on the first round?

That's pretty much what I've been saying all along. We have one rifle that - with variations - covers every role except SAW. (The main reason that it isn't used for SAW too is because we went with light weight instead of the robust construction required for sustained automatic fire.)

Arguably, a larger rifle would be desirable at the platoon level, but we don't do that.

Once you get beyond a .30-06 you really cannot use the weapon effectively, so .30-06 is the biggest I would recommend going.

8mm Mauser ftw. D:<

They have about the same muzzle energy. The 8mm Mauser is a 7.92x57mm round, the .30-06 is a 7.62x63mm round.

Bigger round is bigger.

If you want to be a badass, use the 9.3x64mm Brenneke. I do. Don't you want to be badass like a nation named "Stupidity"?

At that point it would be far more efficient to use the .338 Lapua magnum.
