OOC Fact of the Week:

Motra, a nation I also control, was once considered to be part of Toin's canon and was in fact once a part of Toin. This is no longer considered accurate, however, as Toin is considered to be indivisible in its constitution and the people never truly considered manifest destiny or its equivalents to be truly necessary. Motra still exists as a background nation, however, despite its mostly ex-nation status.

Civilian tech outside of urban areas have plateaued around the 1970's-2040s. Some things such as fiber optic networks (no 5G F that), HVAC and other trade related things, etc, have been improved. But there is no robots that shower you and get you ready for the day.

[Wochaystein]

[Apiary One]

Apiary One's national law enforcement, the Hive Patrol, does not police foreigners. Each foreign sector is patrolled by one or more private security companies who are given the power to enforce the rules and laws of that sector.

Our nation's slave buyback program began in September 1876, wherein the government purchased slaves from slaveowners for $1000 per slave and freed them, this was done as an 'acceptable' way for our nation to phase out slavery. The last slaves to be freed under the slave buyback program were freed in 1889 and slavery was officially made illegal in 1893.

In our timeline, there are almost no people living in the American South, as the victorious Union basically wiped most of them out through a 50 year long process.

Bathamen is the only state on Oraleth to have access to flying machines. Voxijans adopted Halloween fairly recently, in order to have a day where people wear costumes and scare everyone. However, many Voxijans cry "cultural appropriation!". Because Voxijans are apparently stealing Halloween from Anglo-Americans.

[Subhurbia]

In Suhurbia, things aren’t so economically ran. Children often go to nursery schools to learn how to develop interpersonal skills, and at home parents teach them how life works and behavior, and often take them around to various activities so the child knows what their interests are. When the child turns a certain age, like 11-13, they attend schools based on what their interest are, ie a school for doctors, a school for engineers, a school for nursery teachers etc. They train for months to years before going out and doing the real jobs. People do jobs not for the money, but because it is what they’re genuinely interested in doing and they want to contribute to society in some way.

New Goldman, while not having an official national sport, cherishes the game of basketball, brought by American immigrants in the 1920s. The sport became so popular that it was designated an "Imperial Game" by Emperor Michael II in 1946. In 1991, the first Goldmanian to reach the National Basketball Association (NBA), Randy Xavier, was drafted as the 20th overall in the 1991 Draft. Apart from this, the country has its own basketball league, the Goldmanian Basketball Organization (GBO).

[Azania-]

The foundations for Azania's academic institutions are often credited to entrepreneur Musa Khumalo and Dr. Tinos Kucherera, and their joint sponsorship for the establishment of the University of Ushirikiano in 1868. Kucherera returned to Azania after several years studying medicine in the Netherlands, seeking to start his practice of medicine in his home country. He found the region to be lacking in medical professions, but had no means of securing the funding to help bolster the number of doctors and nurses in Azania. Khumalo, a wealthy induna (noble), wished to invest his fortune into a venture that would benefit the general population that he counted himself apart of. Having heard of Kucherera's plight through a shared gentlemen's club the two were members of, both Khumalo and Kucherera agreed to a joint venture that would see the foundation of a new academic institution within the nation. They began by laying out the road map for the construction of a new university that would serve as an incubator, and give birth to the first generation of scientists and engineers locally-trained and educated by those who would serve as the mentors to Azania's freshly minted academic elite.

The two men were able to secure the donations of several colleagues in the country to provide a lump sum of US$150,000, matched with another contribution of US$350,000 from the Azanian government. The funds were enough to help with the construction of a university on the outskirts of Ushirikiano and hire several black academic professionals who had arrived without work or pay from the United States, as well as other nations such as France, the United Kingdom, and Canada. The endowment was likewise enough to invest in various sectors of education and the growing economy, to help provide a continuous flow of additional revenue for the university's sustained operations. Over the next several years, thousands of Azanians were educated at the new institution, with the vast majority studying fields of practical use in the modern world.

Various individuals to graduate from the University of Ushirikiano included several individuals who would go on to contribute to the explosive growth of scientific advancement in the country. Due to the need for well-educated engineers to aid in the reclamation of water-logged lands, remove of acidic tropical soil, and maintenance of new industrial equipment necessary for the growing manufacturing sector in Azania, the plentiful supply of work saw even more members of the population attain a higher education, with the majority of the tuition for the students paid for out of pocket by leading members of the Azanian government, philanthropists, and foreign groups interested in seeing the rapid growth of the intelligentsia in what was hoped to be the first truly successful African country built and sustained by Africans, rather than their European counterparts in an increasingly divided, impoverished, and colonised Africa.

Though the seeds of the scientific and academic professions were planted by two men seeking purely altruistic goals, the racial argument that drove most if not all early policies within Azania would dominate the direction of science and technology within the scientific community of the nation. Many of those who graduated from the university went on to contribute to the industrialisation of Azania, and founded many of their own universities with the goal of educating a generation of black individuals who would stay on par with the nations who once oppressed them for centuries. Others sought to develop means of closing the gap between Azania and the more powerful nations surrounding it, and with their successful careers helped to fund the advancement of the intellectual elite that would later steer most of the education for the country's youth at all levels of schooling. Regardless of the motives of its fore-bearers, the pressing need for agricultural growth, industrialisation, shipbuilding, and overall increase in the standard of living, helped to drive the formation of a robust and dynamic core of scientists, engineers, and teachers, who would urge the reading of books and study of nature for the sake of Azania's cultural and intellectual advancement.

[Naxera]

Naxeran defense company T3EC engineering has delivered the 150th NLAV (W) Naxeran Light Armored Vehicle (Wheeled) 6x6 or this vehicle in 7 different variants totalling 175 ordered for the Naxeran military. Plus 20 export orders.

T3EC developed with support of CAE land systems using the Pegàs M77 6x6 wheeled APC as base. As M77 Evo it satisfied Naxeran military that adopted it.

As result of Gònava war Naxera arms industry expanded a lot.

[Republica Federal de Catalunya]

The Ministry of Defense press office confirmed the Sale of our last Westland Lynx 36M (SH14D in our navy service) to the Dominion of Serpens Land. The sale includes the sale of 12 Flying examples, plus 2 unserviceable ones as source of spares, one CAE flight simulator, their overhaul by Catalonia Aerospace (Airbus Catalonia) training and crew training.

24 Westland Lynx were acquired by the Navy in the early 80s and flew 160000 flight hours from 1983 to 2016. They served in our Balears class and Almogàver class frigates. They were used by 7é HSqo and 11é HSqo. From 3 variants called in our service SH14: 6 Lynx 33 (SH14A), 10 Lynx 36(SH14B) and 8 Lynx 93 or (SH14C) in 1995-1997 all them were Upgraded by the Navy. Catalonia AErospace (Today part of Airbus Military ) was the main contractor to 36M variant (SH14D) that increased Night operations, bad weather and Hot weather operations capabilities also they received new more powerful Rolls Royce Gem 42 and a revised Gearbox. As their replacement the NH90 was being delayed. In 2007 The 20 surviving Lynx received a SLEP (Service Life Extension Programme) done by Catalonia Aerospace (part of Airbus Military). In 2016 they were put in long term storage in Pollença Naval Base. In 2012 with the arrival of the NH90FFH. The SH14 were put in reserve.6 SH14D (former SH14C) were given as military aid to Batea del Nord Navy in 2016. When it bought 3 Gàndia Class Frigates.

The SH14A was the utility version and training version.
The SH14B was the ASW version.
The SH14C had improved power plant but differed in the ASW suit.
The upgraded examples were called SH14D and all examples were upgraded to the SH14D ASW version. Fitting a single upgraded combining both 36 and 93 capabilities in one.

[Purpuriae]

Slavery is legal in Purpuria, but only as punishment for a crime or to repay a debt. While slaves are unpaid, they are otherwise entitled to all the rights and privileges enjoyed by free servants. Abusing a slave is strictly forbidden, and any master caught doing so will be put to death.

[North German Realm]

Slavery and all forms of non-paid labor are criminalized, and this was used as a pretext to justify North German colonialism in most of Africa.

[The Hellenistic Realm]

(i thought of expanding my nation's history here, and considering we're in a pandemic...)

In the early 2500s, a deadly contagion had broken out on the Polis-planet of Sedna after a science team conducted tests on underground soil in the polar regions and (unknowingly) bringing back a virus with them. They had stumbled upon the remains of a meteorite buried deep beneath the ground, which carried the viral bacteria. It was too late to stop it from spreading once they returned from their mission and infected the rest of the population on Sedna, who in turn infected neigboring planets and systems because of interstellar transport. The Realm was experiencing one of the greatest crises in its lifetime, with major parts of its territory quarantined. Transport to Gaia or the Sol System was forbidden because of it being the capital of the Realm. After two years, during which billions have died but some of the infected were able to be kept alive through treatments and medicine, a cure was found and distributed. It eventually took years for the Realm to fully recover, return to its former state, and concentrate their efforts on colonising and expanding their power once again.

[Kasrai]

As a result of cultural factors, Yuobesk, the native language of the Kasrai and many other nations on Selnorig, makes an interesting distinction between a random collection of entities and an organized collection of entities - referred to in linguistics textbooks as the "plural isolate" and "plural collective" forms. The term "Kasrai" actually refers a group of kasr acting in a unified fashion, while the term "Kasre" refers to a group of kasr acting as separate, independent entities. This linguistic quirk developed from the interplay between the harsh conditions of Selnorig's initial settlement and the fiercely independent nature of the original settlers themselves. As the settlers established themselves on Selnorig and planted roots, Yuobesk created these forms to help separate responsbilities which people needed to meet themselves and responsibilities which people needed to team up in order to meet.
