After complaints from a great number of enlisted men, non-coms and CO's the new service (American-style) uniform has been withdrawn and a new one designed. The mess dress has also been withdrawn as it was considered "unnecessarily elitist" by some of the top brass. The new "General Service Uniform 1 (worn during the rainy season)" and "General Service Uniform 2" (worn during the dry season) are modernised versions of the previous service uniform worn by the Army and will be worn throughout the armed forces with only slight differences showing the service one is in:

Image

The new Royal Air Force (a merger of most land-based units of the Royal Naval Aviation Service and the units of the Royal Army Aviation Service) will use blue caps, the Army green caps, the Royal Marechaussee red and the Navy khaki caps (apart from the enlisted men of the navy that will keep their old utility/service uniform (but will no longer be allowed to use it as a dress uniform) and will see the colour scheme changed to khaki and a white cap). The Royal Marine Corps will also fall in with the new uniforms with the exception that the men (of any rank) will continue to wear the traditional dark blue beret.

Image

For the Royal Navy and the Royal Air Force a new utility uniform will be introduced that will consist of an overall: khaki for the Royal Air Force and orange for the Royal Navy. This overall shall be worn aboard Navy ships by all ranks and on the Air Force bases by pilots and ground crew alike. The new flight uniform of the Royal Air Force will consist of an orange flight jacket - much like the previous green flight jacket - for security reasons (that a pilot or seaman can be more easily located and rescued in case of disasters or accidents).

For the first time ever women will be allowed to fulfil an active role within the armed forces (apart from the Commando units - now known as Royal Army Rangers or the other (new and specialised in anti-terrorism) special forces unit known as the Eenheid Spesiale Intervensies/Special Intervention Unit - ESI/SIU) and become commissioned officers. Their uniform will be much the same as that of the men but special provisions will be made in regards to their body shape. A new cap has been designed for female NCO's and officers that was modelled after the British version and will be in use in all the services apart from the Royal Marine Corps.

For the rank and file of all the Royal Air Force and the Royal Army (it will be optional for NCO's and officers) will be the side cap (as was already shown in the second example of the new uniform). The Royal Marechaussee (military police) will no longer use the service uniform as their utility uniform and will receive the same CADPAT combat uniforms and helmets as those that are already in use in the Army and the Royal Marine Corps. Their service uniform will be the same as the one used by the other services. and they will continue to wear the traditional red cap:

Image

Also General Service Uniform 2 will be a throwback to the older service uniforms and will be worn during the dry season. Like General Service Uniform 1 the colour will be khaki and it will be worn by all services.

Image

Both service uniforms can be used in combination with the current military belt.

The Armed Forces will soon face further reorganisation that will lead to increased professionalism with the creation of a new centralised service called the Royal Strategic Command whose service and combat uniforms will fall in line with those that already exist (the service and utility uniform will follow that of the Royal Air Force and the combat uniform, if based outside the country that of the Army) and they will work closely with the existing Cyber Units within the armed forces. The Royal Cyber Command group will centralise the overall command of cyberspace operations, organise existing cyber resources and synchronise defence of the Free Tristanian military networks. The cyber groups will work closely with the secret service C-Buro (which will be streamlined and professionalised) and with the soon-to-be merged Departments of Defense and Homeland Security.

Since the draft will most likely be suspended (and replaced by a 9-month Civilian Service and the Selective Military Service System that will only passively select those men and unmarried women that could be physically and mentally fit for a potential call-up in times of war by browsing through the National Medical Records Network*) the size of the military will shrink to a projected number of 4 million available service members (and thus become an all-volunteer force) and this will also lead to increased professionalism since the only the best of the best can enter the armed forces. The contracts that will be offered will for 2 years (24 months) and 4 years (48 months) and the term can be repeated after that at the discretion of the employer and employee. Because of the nature of the professionalisation of the armed forces the armed forces will have to adhere to the national labour laws and a union for military personnel will be created (with the Ministry of Defence's employment board becoming part of an employer's organisation in accordance to the labour laws and the consensus model).

Because the armed forces are a professional organisation and the labour laws apply to all employers the employees "have a right to a tobacco-free work environment" which means that smoking on the premisses will be banned and thus the cigarette rations will disappear from the service rations currently employed within the armed forces.

In Kouralia it is technically a shoot-able offence to swear directly, or indirectly at the item or image of the Crown. Not the King/Queen: The Crown.

The last recorded incident (and one of only 20 recorded incidents) of this charge being brought to bear (though only once has someone actually been sentenced to death) occurred in 1928 when a Mr Stanley Coe was arrested by Constable Felice Legale of the Decarian Constabulary outside the court-house. He had recently won a court-battle which determined (unpopularly) that the reaction to his calling the Constable a 'Fucking horse' was use of extreme force, and upon receiving the fined money he exclaimed 'I've been waiting for you fuckers.' at the portrait of His majesty on the note.

You can tell whether a Fatatatutian rifleman is left-handed or right-handed by the side he/she wears his/her beret. Military occupation specialties which don't require "one-sided aiming" wear their berets to the right.

We wish to report that the fourth line in the first (and so far only) verse of our National Anthem, ’Coccygia, the Tail-Bone of the Peninsula’, has been changed from ’Our country is not at all immensive1 to ’Our territory is not at all extensive2.

While we’re on the subject, we may as well post the chorus of our National Anthem, which we neglected to do in the previous post3. It is as follows:

‘Thy banners make color-blind people confusèd,
Five cheers for the blue, yellow, red, orange and green!’

1It has been objected that this is not an actual word.4
2We’re not entirely happy with this line either, but it’s better. At least ‘extensive’ is a real word.
3This is because, in fact, these lines are not yet ‘official’, due to the fact that the Royal Democratic Institute for Vexillology5 and Sandwiches (RDIVS) is currently working on a ‘major’ redesign of the flag which will involve ‘at least twice as many’ colors.
4Others insistently maintain that ‘it could be.’
5Flag-making, for the unlettered.

TBRE's Fact of the Week: Part Nineteen
Although the TBRE Armed Forces has adopted some very western styles of naming forces, such as lancers and dragoons, some more traditional and native unit designations have been kept, such as the "Swepartre Rider" Regiment, which generally uses their Tedofian name rather than their anglicized one (Swepartres are a rodent, which resembles a lizard with a dragon's head, that are native to the TBRE).
My full name is actually "[The] Teddy Bear Republic Empire."
