Ministry of EducationFact time!
''Ice cream in Commonwealth is a very popular sweet - even during the 50s-70s, when SC was overall in the worst situation, simple vanilla ice cream was often sold on streets. Many SC's elders from that period still fondly remember it. However, with purchase power in SC increasing, more people can afford it, which means, that SC's state food companies can also experiment with various tastes of it - for comparison, back in the 80s, there were still mostly 2-3 tastes of ice cream in SC overall, but nowadays - there are a lot more sold and made. In fact, after the Scramble for the World, SC's soldiers got access to a lot of recipes of ice cream from local regions, which gave an opportunity for SC's food companies to expand their menu even more. There will be listed a few of them, one for each Commonwealth. Keep in mind, that there are loads of popular ice creams in SC other than those as well (Like Ube Ice Cream, for an example), and the Ministry encourages you to find out more about various diverse flavors and recipes.
Black Sesame Ice Cream This ice cream in particular is popular in SC's Chinese Commonwealth, although it is popular in East Asia in general. It is usually made from sesame seeds and paste, along with condensed milk, and a bit of honey. In SC's China, there are usually two preparation methods - traditional, and simplified one. Traditional can take longer for ice cream to be fully frozen and ready - about 1 or 2 days. Simplified method reduces the time to a mere few hours, but it still can be a some time to wait. It is not as widespread in Mongolia, which, despite being grouped together with Chinese Commonwealth, has its own unique traditions and foods. In general, Mongolian sweets pale with those available in other Commonwealth's regions, not even talking about those made by state megacompanies. However, even there, the black sesame has its lovers. Duan Lan (President-Governor of Chinese Commonwealth) has estimated, that most of the black sesame ice cream is purchased in capital, and more industrially developed regions, while in regions like Qinghai Clique, purchase power is usually lower, thus ice cream is usually prepared at home there.
Chocolate Chilli Ice Cream This type of ice cream is popular in SC's Central America, especially in the Mexican regions. Along with the usual ingredients like sugar, cream, eggs, and chocolate, this ice cream's recipe also involves not only chili powder, but red chilies as well, which are placed into a saucepan, and heating process is repeated twice, removing the chilies and seeds (Which have larger amounts of capsaicin) in process. Its spicy side of the taste reveals slowly, not outright, and is a good mix overall Also described as ''a good way of how to enjoy a mix of sweet and hot tastes in a hot summer day'' by some of the tourist guides in United Megastates. Vendor shops in SC's Caribbean Federation sell this type of ice cream as well, and the state food company branches in SC's Central America have started to produce this type of ice cream at large amounts as well, mostly in cone waffle. Ice cream maker is not necessarily needed to make it, just like with many of other ice creams there, and it can be made as quickly as in 30 minutes, but if someone likes a frozen version more, it would still need to be chilled for 3-4 hours before serving.
Bailey Fudge Ripple Ice Cream This dessert is from SC's Ireland, but it was popularized in Britain in SC's timeline as well, way before the two superstate collapse. Following the formation of European Federation, and blackshirt advances through continental Europe, various cooks, state company CEOs, and others have followed alongside with them, and this type of ice cream has slowly been offered more and more in other bars and shops of SC's Europe. However, there it still is most likely not going to win as big of a popularity as it has in SC's British Isles (Due of various other good ice cream flavors coming from there), and Iceland, which were the core territories of SC before the Scramble for the World. Irish cream liquor is a significant part of this ice cream, along with coffee - it makes for a pretty caffeinated treat. While there are kid-friendly versions too, which make it without liquor, liquor is still a vital part of the ice cream. It is a popular treat in SC's Irish and English bars as well, when a visitor needs something ''special''. However, the alcohol in it makes it a subject towards SC's state regulations as well - due of the staunch anti-alcohol/prohibitionist stance, which is supported by SC's religious authorities, there are limits, of how much liquor can be added to ice cream, and how much can be sold to a certain person. The percentage of alcohol in ice cream shouldn't be higher than 0,5%, according to the SC's standards, to ''discourage alcoholics from using it as an alternative for banned alcoholic drinks''.
Mango Kulfi A dessert, which is popular in SC's Indian Subcontinent, and Indian Commonwealth as a whole, with SC's state company branches in Indian Commonwealth planning to export Mango Kulfi to other regions of Indian Confederacy, like Indus Land (eastern Pakistan), Afghanistan, and Serene Republic of Tibet in the future as well. in Greater Bengal, where the headquarters of the new SC's government for India were located for most of the time, there have been opened a few of the state company factories already, which are supposed to give ''jobs to the locals''. Mango Kulfi is not whipped, unlike standard ice creams, so it has a way denser texture, and it takes longer for it to melt. One of its main ingredients is mango, of course, and saffron as well, along with milk. Mango Kulfi is prepared by slow freezing, which is devoid from the ice crystals. Typically served frozen on a stick, it is sold in various vendors - both in large cities, and more far-away places. Some variants of it include condensed milk, and more heavier (double) cream, while the traditional variants include milk with less calories. Kulfi is starting to get commercially produced in SC as well, but as of now, the old traditions of disputed zone small business are still holding on.
Eskimo Ice Cream Despite its name, it is not actually a type of ice cream in Greater North (SC's Inuit region), but in SC's Siberia instead, and is kind of a leftover from the Empire's times. Just like in OTL, it had two flavors - either basic chocolate shell, or a flavored one, and it was on a stick. Chestnut flavor is the most popular in SC's Siberia, and the ice cream was wrapped in a paper with image of an Penguin on it both before, and after the two superstate collapse. Nowadays, however, this ice cream is more popular in towns, and rural parts of Siberia, where more humans live in, as due of the fact, that Siberia was designated as ''Robot Region'' by Tom and Renier, it has a significant robot population, especially in the largest cities, and ice cream isn't edible for them. However, even then, robots usually have a some sort of alternative to that, just like with sodas (for example, drink ''Batter Acid'' (Not to confuse with real battery acid) is supposed to be a flavored fuel for robots, which would give them a small energy boost, if compared to regular one. That said, it is still deadly to humans). Difference can be noted in shops as well - in small town shops, there are usually goods mostly for humans, while in cities, there is a large sortiment of robot parts and special ''foods as well'', and for a human, it might take some time to find such an ice cream there, for an example.
Dondurma Ice Cream A mastic ice cream from Turkey, similar to the Arab Booza, is the type of ice cream, which has been popularized further in SC's Middle Eastern Commonwealth by the SC's western soldiers, who arrived there and were stationed during the Scramble for the World. The most popular in SC's Turkish State, but it has got some popularity in SC's Kurdistan as well, despite those region's leaderships being cold against each other. (In fact, SC's Kurdistan has tensions with pretty much all of its neighbors, so the UCN peacekeepers (Basically a more stronger version of UN soldiers) enforce a fragile peace there - Levant has claims on it, Magna Arabia seeks to expand its buffer (Iraq) further north, while Iran seeks to regain western parts back. SC's Transcaucasia is the only SC's Kurdistan's ally between the neighbors.) It has about the same ingredients as booza ice cream, and has a hard, chewy texture, along with resistance towards melting, thanks to mastic and salep (flour). It is sold in vendors, and in state company shops as well, which often mandate tough hygienic standards for both, along with various other regulations. Some think, that ''eating cold foods will cause illnesses like common cold, or sore throat'', and sometimes drink a warm liquid, to ''counter'' the effect, although such combination is harmful for tooth enamel.
Maple Bacon Ice Cream A mix of sweet and salty taste, basically, which combines it into a delicious taste. Usually made from condensed milk, toffee bits, and cool whipped cream with a maple extract, for a concentrated flavor, and left overnight in the fridge to freeze. Grizzled with candied bacon before serving, and some maple syrup. It's pretty easy to make it on your own. This type of ice cream is popular between a large part of the SC's Canada's population, particularly in the Prairies, and Ontario region. In The East (Quebec, plus the remaining eastern states), this type of ice cream is beaten by Chocolat Favoris, however - mostly with its chocolate ice cream, although it has other flavors too. In the Greater North, on the other hand, Akutaq is more popular between the local Inuits, which make up a larger percentage of the population there. In all those cases, however, they have a following theme - SC's state companies have got their hands on their production as well, and vendor sellers have a hard time. As for Maple Bacon Ice Cream, while the product of state companies is still considered ''subpar'' by some people, and they prefer a product made in home or from a small vendor, SC's state companies are constantly working on a way of how to improve their product, and usage of various dirty business tactics. Same treatment is applied for other ice creams in other SC's Canadian regions as well.
Azuki Red Bean Ice Cream A popular desert in SC's Korea, Japan, and Ring of Fire overall, its primary ingredients are the azuki beans, or the paste from them. Those beans are used in various Korean desserts as well, not only for ice cream - azuki beans are used for things like waffles, and rice cakes. In Ring of Fire, the red beans in sweets are just as important ingredient as chocolate in the SC's western regions. Condensed milk, and sesame seeds are optional, if one wants a sweeter ice cream, but if a person wants less calories, you can very well not use them. (In SC, obesity has slowly started to become a bigger issue, particularly in SC's First World, despite SC's world still having big issues with poverty, and overall having a way lower average body mass index) Other ingredients are red bean paste, normal milk, sugar, and some water. Like with many ice creams, the mixture is boiled, and then cooled. Usually sold in small shops (rural towns, and villages), or in government-owned markets (urban cities). Outside of Ring of Fire, this ice cream is usually served in special Party's restaurants, or in private parties as a part of ''cultural weekends'', as prices of foreign ice creams are usually way higher, just like with other goods, which have high tariffs. (For example, red bean ice cream costs a lot more than Rocky Road in United Megastates, while the opposite would be true in Ring of Fire.)
Rocky Road Ice Cream A classic ice cream from United Megastates. Usually made out of nuts, chocolate ice cream, and marshmallows, although variations do exist (Almonds and walnuts, for an example). When it comes to usage of chocolate chips, there are differences - more traditionalist ice cream makers make the Rocky Road without them, while those from reformist wing usually make them with chocolate chips. Yes, politics do get almost everywhere there. Either way, in SC's timeline, Tom has declared Rocky Road as being ''patentless'', similarly to many other things like vaccines, weapon designs, songs, or others, arguing, that ''it is a large part of the Megastates national identity''. Rocky Road is one of the most often sold and made flavors in United Megastates, but most of it is produced by state food companies - private, family-scale producers are usually found in countryside, and even there, state companies have a pretty large part of the offer. Rocky Road is well known in other SC's regions as well, and it has fans there as well, but overall, Rocky Road is associated the most with Megastates. So, some from the wealthy tourists from Megastates (Tourism is pretty expensive in SC's world) have even been ashamed, when seeing, that Rocky Road is served in other regions, saying ''serve more of your own original flavor, which will make you stand out, not take what others already have!'', while some are flattered.
Lucuma Ice Cream Lucuma Ice Cream is popular in SC's South America, mostly due of the Brazilian integralist subsidies towards the plantations of the fruit, but Lucuma Ice Cream still remains the most popular in Peru-Bolivia Confederation, as it is mostly considered as ''unfit for export'', because it has a soft flesh, and tends to lose water rather quickly. So, the Lucuma Ice Cream makers in regions outside Peru-Bolivia usually rely on local plantations, and the few exported fruits, which make it less popular than other fruit and berry flavors, obviously. Although this subtropical fruit primarily grows in SC's Peru-Bolivia, there are plantations in La Plata (Chile, to be more precise) as well. Lucuma can be used in various other ways as well, like for flavor in juice, milkshakes, or just eating raw, but its usage for ice cream remains the primary thing for it in SC's world, surpassing other flavors in Peru-Bolivia. Although it is a fruit, it doesn't taste fruity at all - rather, it is similar to maple and butterscotch. Its color looks a bit similar to a raw egg yolk, so it is sometimes called an ''eggfruit'' as well. It has one to five large seeds in it, which look similar to the pit in an avocado. Like in many SC's first world regions, state companies have got a large production monopoly on the ice cream, while it is also served in places like bars as well.
Queso Ice Cream This cheese-flavored ice cream is particularly popular in SC's Philippines (Tondo Republic in SC's timeline), along with sweets like Halo-halo. Similar to other things from the disputed zone, SC's Australian and New Zealander soldiers brought the recipe back to home, and SC's state companies got it as well. Right now, Australasian companies are planning to sell it further in other regions of Australasian Confederation (Like Indochina, or Majapahit Republic), and expand the state-owned vendors, and shops elsewhere. However, there are still lots of people, who find the flavor ''weird'', which means, that more extensive production of it is currently limited in SC's Australasia (Also, ice cream is not as important topic in SC right now, as reconstruction of the ruined Disputed Zone is a bigger priority right now). Along with the usual ingredients like milk, eggs yolks, cream, and vanilla extract, there are some new (and obvious) ones, like a pack of cheese, or shredded sharp cheddar cheese. Yellow food color can be used as well, although there are some people in SC, which consider it as ''unnatural''. If someone wants a firm ice cream, the mass should be freezed for at least 6 hours, but if someone is impatient, the ice cream can be eaten right after it's prepared. Those Australasian soldiers, who have tasted it, reported the taste being ''interesting'', and when someone tries it, they usually will want more, even if met with skepticism at first.
Vietnamese Coffee Ice Cream As name implies, it is an ice cream with flavor of Vietnamese Coffee (Or Ethiopian/Ugandan Coffee for local, and cheaper variants, along with Ivory Coast's coffee), and oreo cookies mixed in. Despite its name, Vietnamese Coffee Ice Cream is not the most popular in SC's Australasia, or even Indochina, but rather in an another continent - SC's Africa. It is particularly popular in SC's South Africa, where it often gets produced in large amounts. Even Renier Langenhoven - the President-Governor of SC's South Africa, has said, that ''he likes the taste of this ice cream''. While the highest percentage of market it has in South African core territories, it is very popular in Kalahari Territory as well (Namibia and Botswana). Purchase power is lower in the rest of Africa, due of most of it being a part of Disputed Zone, but even there, the local governor elites have started to purchase it as a valuable sweet. Ironically enough, it has more competition exactly in those regions, and it is possible, that in regions like SC's Chad or Horn of Africa, an another flavor will push out this ice cream out, and replace it as the most popular, as the purchase power grows. However, on the other hand, Vietnamese Coffee Ice Cream has solidified its position in SC's South Africa already, and judging how slow things change in SC, will remain there for quite a long time.
Booza Ice Cream (Picked this because I couldn't find any particular flavor specific for Turkestan) Although it originated in Arab world (Syria to be more specific), in SC's world, it is very popular particularly in SC's Turkestan Commonwealth. Its consistency is similar to cheese, with usual ingredients such as milk, cream, and sugar being used, along with orchid root flour, and mastic. It is made through process of pounding, and overall is prepared differently than most of ice creams. Unlike SC's Siberia, Turkestan's ice cream influence didn't come much from Muscovy. It is the most popular in regions of Khiva and Samarkand of Turkestan Commonwealth, but it has a lot of demand in Turkmen lands as well. It is less popular in East Turkestan and SC Kazakhstan, however, and unlike in SC's First World regions, ice cream is usually produced on a small scale, and for personal use/narrow circle - state megacompany monopoly doesn't apply well there. (Yet)
Dippin' Dots Dippin' Dots (Also called as ''Future Ice Cream'' in Antarctican Commonwealth) in SC were invented later than in our timeline - in 2010s. That said, it faced the same issues as OTL - due of the fact, that it was made out of various ice cream mixes flash freezed into liquid nitrogen, its storage had to have a temperature below −40 °C, which many of the SC's groceries simply could not provide. So, it never really kicked off in United Megastates, or much of other SC's regions, even those, where Futurist ideas had taken a hold on the regional governments, and some parts traditionalism was rejected. It failed to take hold in Arctic regions as well, as those regions either had their own version of more popular ice cream already (Like Akutaq, which was made more sugary for Europeans), or other flavors were already provided by the local governors, like in Siberia with vanilla ice cream between two wafers. However, in Antarctica, temperatures were very low consistently, which meant, that it was perfect for such a task. Also, some of the settlers thought of Antarctica as a chance to ''build a society from the beginning in a futurist (Art movement) style, which would involve different, unique architecture'', and thought of Antarctica as a place ''little tainted by the old''. So, along with the goods settlers brought to Antarctica, there were some Dippin' Dots machines as well. Nowadays, it is the only SC's region, where such ice cream is the most popular.''
