Valencian air force anounced the reactivation of a 21st squadron with 16 Eurofighter Typhoon.

Valencian Air Force received from 1965 to 1968 as US Military Aid 30 F-5A/B and 6 RF-5A as replacements for the F86Fs and Dassault Super Mystere. In the late 70s Valencian Air Force only had a Handful of Mirage III and F5A/B so it started evaluating F16A (until the last 90s VAF would not operate F16s (36 block 52+)). But, for economic, cost and logistic reasons VAF ordered 16 F-5E and 4 F-5F in the 1986 the VAF received 12 more F-5Es.
As VAF observed with keen interest Moroccan fighting against the Polisario Front. Threats faced included multiple SA-6 antiaircraft systems, and several F-5s were lost during the conflict, as the strong points and weaknesses of the model.
As result of this VAF decided to upgrade their F-5E/Fs to correct the weaknesses observed in the model. such need of better radar, RWR and IWR and need of better ECMs.
Starting in 1995-1998 a total of 24 F-5E/Fs were upgraded by Valencian IAV with help of CAE and IAI in an upgrade similar to the Chilean F-5 E/F TIII standard, 4 at CAE plant in El Prat and the remaning 20 were upgraded in Manisses IAV plant. Some of the others Tigers were refurbished but not upgraded as source of spares. The F5A/Bs received E/F avionics. F5A/Bs and later F5Es served in the acrobatic team.

Some F5A/B were refurbished and upgraded by VAI and CAE and sold to Naxera in the 80s. as 12 F-5E+/F+ in the early 2000s that have been the backbone of NAF for years.
