The military salute is the right hand held at a 45 degree or so angle to the right temple. The raised fist salute is popular with certain political elements.

THREE NON-OPPOSIBLE FINGERS: Saluting to peers and superiors, or people you wish to respect of a lower rank. Shows submission.

For the Sangheili, you take your right hand, clench your fist and then place it on chest.
