Britain has a bretty good track record too, pun intended. Centurion was superb. Chieftain would have been outstanding with a reliable engine. Challenger 2 is excellent but a bit expensive. Some of the inter-war British tanks were a bit pants, though (yes, I mean you, Vickers Independent).

For what they cost, Russian tanks aren't all that bad, and they've produced their share of innovative designs. The French have had some superb tanks (FT17, Char 1B, Leclerc). Don't know that much about other nations' tank design. I do know the K-2 Black Panther gets my personal vote for current best in the world.

If we're bringing modern tanks into it, my favorite is the M60 Patton. First use of a combat computer. And the the Abrams because it's a 61 ton pile of fuck you.
