Well arm cannon's are unsual and unexpected in IRLC but in NS it's probably another story. 8 gauge, 4 bore, or two bore? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2_borehttp://www.survivalistboards.com/showthread.php?t=91060

10 or 12 gauge, and I'm leaning towards 12. 2 bore would shatter their arm bones, and anything else bigger than ten or twelve would mean another caliber for my military. Any smaller than 12 would be too small, too.

No, they posed a threat to M-14 rifles.

edit: Is Fort Zombie good?

Needs a lot of polishing but best zombie survival game yet (Dead rising does not count as you are not surviving zombies, you destroy them). Namely the first thing you learn to do is not shoot things, but run the fuck away. Guns may kill zombies easy, but ten more come after you when they hear the noise.

advantages of .22

LIGHT: you can carry an assload of it
CHEAP: you can buy an assload of it beforehand cheeply
PLENTIFUL: no self respecting gun store doesn't stock .22
LONG RANGE: you can hit the fucker a long way off
ACCURATE: you can fuckin' hit the fucker's head
CLEAN: not much spatter, less blood and infectious shit
QUIETER: not as much noise as larger rounds

and you gotta hit the brain anyway so who cares if it's powerful?

Well they do implement awesome gyrojet tech, they look absurdly bulky, heavy, and poorly balanced and they lack even the most basic stock.

They don't need a stock because they actually have negligible recoil and they're used for PA troops, and I doubt weight/bulkiness is a problem. In-setting, they rule.

Also, Indeosan SF in the year 40,000.*

The military mainly used an advanced form of the M4A1 called the HUER (Holy Ultamian Empire Rifle) 37-6, which had advanced scopes and heat/motion trackers. Today the military uses the newly-manufactured HUE X-44, a light metallic-alloy based weapon which fires off almost 1000 RPM and almost never overheats even when sustained for a whole minute. It is compatible with nearly every type of scope or tracker imaginable. It is this weapon's very high accuracy rate and low recoil that has helped us achieve many land victories in west-central Pennsylvania the past week.

The military is working on two things for the weapon: A four-grenade rotating lanucher that can be fitted onto the gun's barrel and connected to the motor; and a classified new round that will hopefully exceed all others' expectations.

Can we get a picture, and /or a stat block? How do you accomplish the heat resistance of the barrel to keep it from overheating? what kind of ammunition does it currently use? how heavy and bulky is it?

You have to do a fair amount of damage, and be able to do it reliably. A .22LR won't provide that.

if you're gonna shoot the brain you'll be hitting it in the forehead, if you shoot it and graze it with a 5.56 it still won't destroy the brain. and besides, the .22LR comes in holopoint, and there's a LOT of it to be used so you can shoot several times.

Wasting ammo is never a good idea. I'm sure there are tons of better rounds that are common enough to use. Also, the 5.56 is a varmint round, but it's better than a .22LR. You want real zombie killing, use .308 or .30-06.

.308 and .30-06 are overkill.
they'll blow the head off, make a lot of noise, and are fairly expensive.

were I going to pack up some gear for zombie fighting, I'd take a semi auto .22 cal carbine with as much ammo as possible. which, considering the lolsmall weight of a .22, is alot.

And you'd get swarmed by zombies and die, because you have to shoot every single one multiple times to make sure it's dead. They're loud, but chances are that if one zombie knows where you are the rest do too. With those, it's a one shot kill every time, from a longer possible range, with greater accuracy. As far as expense, it's about to be the fucking apocalypse. Rob the store, or empty your savings.

and how do you practice with these weapons during prewar phase? it's pretty expensive.
oh, and what weapon do you recommend chambered in 30-06 or 308? because remember, semi auto comes in very handy when you need to take out your targets quickly AND accurately.

Too short-range, and you shouldn't be firing full-auto against zombies. Ever. Even when your back is to a wall, you fire all but one shot in semi. The last one is for you.

@Phon: The .308 is just the civilian 7.62 NATO, so pretty much any civilian 7.62 NATO would be good. The M1 Garand is a semi .30-06. You practice the same way you would with any gun. Expense isn't a valid reason to use a bullet that isn't guaranteed to do its job. Also, reloading is cheaper than buying new bullets every time, so you can do that to cut down on costs a little.

Additionally, the .30-06 is a hugely popular hunting cartridge.
