Your shield could probably be a bit heavier and be able to take more without slowing your guys too much, also, you should have some kind of (at least experimental or palace guards or something) with a shield, sword, and arm cannon. The arm cannon doesn't have to be huge, 9mm parabellum would still be awesome.

I think I'd prefer to beef up the armour a little bit, since the shield can only cover one facing at a time. Probably add a secondary layer to absorb impacts against the hard plates, or bulk up on the neck/throat guard...

I'm planning on having a secret society of heretics that thinks that my first emperor was a god (despite the fact that he told everyone he wasn't, a 7-7'6" man who conquered an empire the size of western Europe and converted nearly all pagans on the island into Christians does make a compelling case for being called a god). They try to find the god emperor who they believe never died, but simply left the palace to lead them to conquer the world. I might give the emperor's guards who exist for when the emperor returns a full suit of armour, shields, swords, and arm guns. They probably have a top speed of 5 km/h and a range of about 100 meters, but they are guards, who cares.

My thought's exactly, sans the heretics. The Czar's guards don't need to move fast or far, they're mostly for display.

That's not to say they're completely worthless, since their armor is lolheavy(modern full plate, designed to stop intermediate rifle rounds) and they do carry weapons (bastard swords, large even-more-bulletproof shields, and pistol-caliber wrist cannons[Taking specific caliber suggestions]).

Those would be closer to the ones who actually do the protection work. The guards being discussed number barely in the double digits, and basically just stand around looking invincible so random-ass people won't bother trying to mess with the Czar. Also, like I said, FanT.

How the Lifeguard look is directly proportional to the effectiveness of the military as a whole.
