Well, I guess those are TECHNICALLY handguards, but they eat up the magazine well, and barely cover the barrel.

Burn in hell look at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AK74 stupid, tjose are real aks notice anything similar :eyebrow: ;)

What I'm noticing is real AKs are full length (actually long enough to be effective primary weapons; they have a range farther than 50m), they actually have sights, and the forward handguard is positioned a little better.

Granted it wouldn't be impossible to put the handguard like that, it'd just be damned annoying when trying to use.

Why is there a piston rod placer still on that AK?

Because the Paikistani who built it wanted it to look badass.

Why are there two completely different rifles shown? Drum mags don't increase RoF and if it isn't a dedicated LMG variant it shouldn't have higher RoF anyway.

The only true way to view it
Production History
7.8x53 Iscariot was first designed in 1984 by Samuel Iscariot. The round itself was designed to penetrate modern armor and entertain the communist government at the time. The round passed in one aspect, it was able to pass through most of the armor at the time, but the communist government felt the traditional 7.62x39 was more comfortable for them. It wasn't until the fascist takeover in 2001 that the .307 was fully recognized.

Case length: 53 mm
Overall length: 75 mm

No problem. Most of us try to give helpful criticism, it really only gets bad when someone doesn't listen.

@Ott: Probably gonna be my mainline rifle cartridge if I can ever be arsed to make a rifle. Otherwise I'm just gonna say it is even if I haven't made a gun for it.

The only problem I see is the that you have two different rifles in the picture that have some very different designs (Kalashnikov style setup with the gas return system and the fire selector and the charging handle being part of the bolt -vs- AR style fire selector and the charging handle being behind the top-rail). Which one is your rifle, or what?

Also, the weight seems a bit heavy for your design, I'd say it'd be more around 3kg. ( at me not remembering whether you listed the weight in pounds or kilos and rolling with it anyway).

FFS Ott's round outperforms my beloved .300 Winchester Short Magnum. Time to adopt it as a BR cartridge.

Calibers so far:

.314/7.8x53mm Iscariot for standard BRs.
10mm Auto for SMGs/pistols.
20x[something] gyrojets for dedicated snipers.

IIRC The scope also displays the distance. Which iron sights can't do. And its the most convenient to see it when aiming down the scope. Iron sights can't display it like that.

EDIT: I'd also like to add that no matter what you do its still going to be extremely bulky. You have nearly two complete weapons smashed into one, its not going to be compact.

Fair enough.

And, now that I look at the barrel closely, it seems to be above the action. You might want to bring it down in line with the ejection port.

Yeah, now that I look at it, I had originally set it up to be bolt-action, but changed my mind halfway through. XD

Yes, but you can use the rangefinder to automatically make the grenade detonate X amount of distance from that point. So, once the rangefinder has done that for you, you just tell the gun how far from from that point you want it to detonate.

And I realize that it will always be bulky, I was just making it less bulky.

And and I still haven't decided whether or not to keep the airburst idea. It might just be used as a convenient replacement for hand grenades (it can shoot farther and faster).

How so? If you look where my country would be located (Western Ukraine, north of Romania, East Slovakia) lumber would be abundant, and easier to produce (shape into parts) than polycarbonate or metal. Plus metal would be heavier than anything.

Wouldn't that have pretty bad performance? Or am I thinking of a different Kurz round that was pretty subpar...

Lightweight polymers, which are used in most every gun, are far lighter than wood. Cheaper, too, once there's some effort put into them.
