The most practiced faith would be Lutheran Catholicism, as dictated as by the Nifhelska Kyrk, the national church. It's membership among the population in 95%. However, there is a 2% minority of Roman Catholics and a 3% minority of Jews.

We follow a religion combining Taoist and Buddhist principles with emperor worship. Fairly standard speculative fiction trash, really.

In this system, the Emperors are revered as half-gods or (in some cases) dragons, who are given stewardship over the people for a time and who derive celestial rank in the afterlife from how revered they were in this one. It is unclear whether or not the Emperors believe this themselves.

Tryienne has one religion, and that's Johannism. Johannism is a combination between Christianity, Islam and the believe in the Almighty St. John the Baptist.

But, there are small minorities of other religions in my country, and those are Christianity, Islam, Eastern Orthodoxy and Greek Orthodoxy. They aren't repressed, they are wildly accepted.

Postby Maltempata » Thu May 17, 2012 2:43 pm

Maltempata has a great diversity of religions. Its people are tolerant of spiritual beliefs.

There is an indigenous religion in Maltempata called Alvarism - The Belief of the Hive - which has its foundation in ancient practices centered on our national animal, the bee. Alvarism has no nationally institutionalized structure or formal places of worship, and as such it is impossible to place an accurate figure on its adherents, census notwithstanding. But as a folk religion it is widely practiced, especially amongst the older generations, and Maltempi politicians frequently pay lip-service to Alvarist culture around election times.

Beyond that, the largest religious grouping that would be easily recognized outside Maltempata is Buddhism, of which the various schools constitute around 15% of the population. In addition, there are many agnostic and non-religious groups who have adopted some of the humanistic principles of Buddhism.

One particular Maltempi cultural practice, that may interest and amuse foreigners, is that of "venturing". Venturing is on the syllabus of most school authorities and is very popular with teachers, students and parents alike. It involves students having to invent a new religion, complete with all its trappings, and then thoroughly document it and - if possible - adopt the lifestyle of that religion for a semester. At the end of the semester, there is a Grand Venturing Conference (which often turns out to be more of a party) and by the end of the conference all student delegates must either remain the head of their ventured religion or have become the follower of another student. Each religion must therefore attempt to convert other delegates during the conference and the so-called "winner" is the religion (not the founder) that amasses the greatest following.

It's because of venturing that proselytizing religions are generally regarded with gentle amusement in Maltempata. Thus many of the religions that are familiar and seemingly successful in other countries are never likely to gain a foothold here.

Mexico (proper) is a Catholic nation, and it will always be a Catholic nation.
Mexico has been a Catholic nation ever since 9 December 1531, when Juan Diego Cuauhtlatoatzin, a recently converted Aztec peasant, had a vision of a young woman,
a lady, while on a hill in the Tepeyac desert, near Mexico City.
Image
The lady in the vision asked him to build a church where they stood on the hill.
The Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe stands on that spot till this day.

Up until very recently, the practice of religion was outlawed.

Since King Igin II has been declared a god, however, Iginity is now the official religion of Wetzel. Wetzelians are required to attend Iginian Communion every Saturday.
