May I recommend you, Raziac, to the PMG usage guide in my signature. Here you can find people who will be more happy to critique PMG works, advice and tutorials to use the much more effective 'New' PMG, and a place to show off any works you do (we won't consider it spamming). It's slow atm, but I'm sure you can restart interest.

I find that there really is no legitimate need to have a semi-automatic rifle. But then again, that's just me.

If I really wanted to, I could probably acquire a FAL or AK, just have a number of parts removed (probably as simply as plugging the gas port) to make them straight-pull bolt action rifles.

But for some reason, I feel this defeats the point. Because they're no longer that rifle anymore, it has been frankly defiled in my opinion.

Well yes, my bullpup is somewhat smaller than the 'regular' rifle but not that much. I based the length of the rifle after the Morita (only long bullpup I could find) and besides, why can't bullpups be about the same length as a 'regular' rifle?

They can be. Look up the L86 LSW, which has a 25.5" barrel and is still shorter than an M16.

They aren't common because they have very long barrels which could be subject to warp or damage more easily than the shorter barrels of conventional rifles.

I'm not familiar with the G36 or any of it's derivatives but supposedly the gun can be converted back to semi-automatic too easily for it to be classified as a centrefire bolt action weapon. Any bolt action weapon sold here must not be able to be easily converted to semi-automatic otherwise it gains semi-automatic status. Obviously, the victorian police (as it's only banned in one state, not the entire country) found something about it they didn't like.

Easily is the operative word in the law obviously, however how far you have to go to convert a gun isn't specified. Working on guns to modify them is illegal here too therefore I'm speculating that easily means the average person could do it in their shed with average tools.

Seriously dude, if you want to complain write a letter to VicPol. I'll even sign it for you. There have been hundreds upon hundreds of letters, petitions and other legal stuff every year sent to government at some level regarding restrictive gun policies and nothing gets done. There is no point telling me if you think the law is dumb; you're preaching to the choir. I would consider a revolt, but unfortunately we don't have any guns to do it with.

Does anyone know of a cartridge between 7.62x51mm and .338 Lapua that this rifle could fire?

There are loads and loads of rounds in between those options.

Anything in the 4-5.5kJ region woudl work with something like .338 Federal being your low point (loads to about 4.3kJ) and stuff like 8mm Remignton magnum being your upper limit (although the 8mm rem mag is a pretty long cartridge, i.e. is something like 93mm over all).

Have a good troll through the 7/7.62/8mm magnums and you'll find something nice.

if you want a one stop recommendation I would say just go with .338 federal, it looks pretty decetn and will reliably work from military style box mags and in ARalike actions.
