I looked into it when I first started playing: it's stupid, supposedly each weapon contains an apparently inexuastable block of material that has little slivers shaved off which then become the projectiles. The power source is handwaviumed, so apparently heat becomes the only issue, and is resolved by disposable heat sinks, which are apparently universal yet are bigger than some of the actual guns, are never seen being replaced, but are simply ejected like M1 Garand en-bloc clips. Oh yeah, and you can have all manner of special projectiles, like incendiary and "disrupter" ammo, but you don't appear to ever replace the block of material, or do anything other than press a few buttons on the gun, so I guess that's handwavium too. Oh yeah, and many of the guns appear to have "magazines", though these are of course never used. And don't even get me started on the whole "transformer guns" thing. Its an amazing series, and fuck EA for ruining it, but the weapons are just stupid.

So, since my AimPoint is coming in and I have a lead on a Bulgarian bayonet, my AK is a few parts away from being completed.

Eh, we're still talking about guns. And tbh I find this more interesting than another "I shot my AK" or "I bought a think that goes on my AK" post, which are about as relevant as discussing video game guns.

This is to Horseflip what the AK is to Russia: It has experienced minor changes over the years but the basic system is still used.

Other popular weapons include Springfield style rifles in .280 british and 7.62x25 Subguns and pistols

Until the '40s(when the SVT-40 and SKS were designed) you're basically stuck with the Mosin, though you could use the Steyr-Mannlicher M1895 or Berdan (the MN replaced this, so I wouldn't recommend it). If you wanna get really fancy, go for the Federov Avtomat.

Wasnt the Federov Avtomat made even before WW1?
What would things have been like if every security operative, when he went out at night to make an arrest, had been uncertain whether he would return alive? Or if during periods of mass arrests, as for example in Leningrad, when they arrested a quarter of the entire city, people had not simply sat in their lairs, paling with terror at every bang of the downstairs door and at every step on the staircase, but had understood they had nothing left to lose and had boldly set up in the downstairs hall an ambush of half a dozen people with axes, hammers, pokers, or whatever else was at hand? The Organs would quickly have suffered a shortage of officers and transport and, notwithstanding all of Stalin's thirst, the cursed machine would have ground to a halt!

266 pages. I think that's a record for the current incarnation. Good job. Google is your friend.

Ali's right, though. IIRC. (It was technically in prototype by like 11-13, but the one we know and love wasn't made till 1915.)

The Boer War was probably similar if not a little higher, but it wasn't the same scale.

The really drastic improvements in artillery don't happen until the Great War.

I believe you are right, and I think this is one of the main reasons why armies have slowly moved from large BR cartridges like the .30-06 and 8mm Mauser to smaller cartridges like the 5.56 and 5.45. The role of the infantry rifle has changed from killing to suppressing.

I don't feel this is the way it should be done however.
I do believe it is more important to have it the other way, that machine guns and battle rifles pin down the enemy while manoeuvre elements close and engage in their own positions.

NEVER is really long time, presumably even longer when it's capitalized like that. Weapons become obsolete during shifts in technological epochs. The Bronze Age obsoleted the rock, the Enlightenment obsoleted the spear, the Industrial Revolution obsoleted the musket. These are all generalizations, but it's highly unlikely that the rifle will survive the Information Age as the infantry weapon of decision.

It probably won't completely disappear. People still throw rocks, after all.

The sociopolitical effects of this are far more interesting to me, so if you won't your future soldiers to use .338 or whatever I won't press the issue further. I might think it's like someone faced with a sword scrambling frantically for a bigger rock, but Master Chief uses some kind of 9mm+ rifle, so whatever.

7.62, actually... AND IT STILL HAS BRASS...

Halo BR is "9.5x40mm KURZ" according to Halo wiki. The assault rifle is 7.62x51 canonically, but clearly just isn't.

Why? You have yet to actually explain your argument. As in to explain the why to your conclusions. You come here with statistics and conclusions but nothing in between. And that is quite like coming to a math test with the text for a problem, the number 3 and nothing else. Where is your work? I on the other hand have presented the issues of cost and lack of need for a guided bullet to counter you. Points that you have not even addressed. All you keep doing is rambling around with fancy rhetoric about rocks and development that is absolutely nothing but fancy words with no substance. So cut that out and produce some actual content.

And stop constantly trying to dodge the topic with coop outs like the ones at the end of your every post. Once you enter a discussion there ain't no leaving.

Purpelia does not reflect my actual world views. In fact, the vast majority of Purpelian cannon is meant to shock and thus deliberately insane. I just like playing with the idea of a country of madmen utterly convinced that everyone else are the barbarians. So play along or not but don't ever think it's for real.

The above post contains hyperbole, metaphoric language, embellishment and exaggeration. It may also include badly translated figures of speech and misused idioms. Analyze accordingly.
