I'm revising for my media law exam at the same time as messing around with the tank design, and currently looking over my notes on the EU law regarding Pornography and Obscenity. The reading material is...interesting, but I swear the toolbar is perfectly innocent!

Eight tanks would be a lot, probably too many, due to coordination issues. As the US Army found out during the Cold War with its experiments in the Pentomic division structure, the average commander can only coordinate 2-5 action units; eight becomes too much to manage. IMO, it'd be easier to just split it in half with two four-tank platoons, which is what most real-world armies follow.

I believe though most tank platoons only have crew in them; the British standard is for four tanks with fifteen men and one officer, which means they just have the four crew per tank, and none outside of that, since that means those men either have to walk or drive in more vulnerable vehicles that have to be protected.

As for the hovertank guy. Seriously man. Just go retro and use the BMD-3 combined with a PT-76. Or make your own modern version. With ATGM's on top they should be perfectly able to outgun and outarmor anything your enemy is likely to deploy in such terrain.

If by the hovertank guy you mean me, I have no idea what most of that meant.

I expect he means me. And I do mean a conventional hovercraft, light armour, 105mm gun mostly used for GLATGMs. Probably not going to get it to move its own weight without lolhueg fans beneath, but it was fun to design.

Hovercraft can be pretty damned heavy. The USN LCAC can carry a fully-loaded battle-ready M1 Abrams. I'm sure if you basically turn a Stryker MGS into a slightly bigger hovercraft with a conventional tank turret (and bigger gun) and some additional weapon systems and APS, I'm sure that would be good. Or, considering how dense your nation's vegetation could be, maybe consider an even smaller hovercraft with an AMOS turret.

Ban evasion, sure I can buy that. But complaining.

As for the composite armor issue. What's with all the people suggesting I actually somehow find top secret restricted newer going to be available to the public data about the materials and composition of the armor? I mean sure it's the correct thing to do to get an accurate number. But actually doing it is beyond impossible. I was hoping there was some NS rule to calculating this. Just like it's an unspoken NS rule that ECT adds 18% or something power to your gun.

However, Im glad it's either a) large enough or b) enough of a threat to use orbital weapons on.

Nice idea. I'll have to play around with it. This is my current model. Baseline model features a 24mm autocannon, but the Water-Devil variant is more tanklike and has the 107mm gun.

Hey. 2 meters of armor can totally work. On a side note, does anyone have any idea how thick the armor on modern tanks is? Especially on the sides and the sides of the turret. I wanted to have only 500mm of side armor and I am not sure if that's enough.

That's significantly more than most modern tanks field. It's pretty close to what they have in RHA equivalent.

Yes, but how would it fare? Remember, I am attempting to design a tank that can take a hit from anything, ANYTHING the enemy can throw at it and fire back. One of my end goals includes resisting the Lyras 190mm canon. Now, I figure that with 2m of front armor + ERA I have the front covered. But I am worried if considering my goal 500mm on either side would be enough.

Taking back what I said on the other thread, I'll be keeping the M-60A4 in service; I'll have a nice write up eventually for it, so I'll just stalk here for better ideas and what not to do advice in the mean time since I'm by no means, an expert. It'll likely be an extensive upgrade of the M-60-2000, I think.

Ahhhh, rods from god.

I used to have these things called LOTUS platforms, which were hydrogen stream particle cannons, but orbital weapons add too much of a "I'm at war now, lets snipe all of his important stuff" factor.

Id sooner launch a couple hundred 15 megaton cluster MIRV's.

This leads me into a related question when it comes to CIWS and its use on my Super-Heavy. What is the general effectiveness of a CIWS against, lets say, a Tomahawk?

Does it boil down to reaction time, and can a CIWS take one out in a timely fashion?

MBT-01 Cerebrese

Posted this in the original thread, but this is essentially a re-done version since the old one was not to the proper scale I was aiming for, since I didn't scale the baseline image properly. The old one was an awkward 1 m = 82.2 px, while the current one is 1 m = 100 px. It's also PMT, first off.

1. Yes, I'm aware how long that gun is. It's a 150 mm L/55 railgun, and yes, I know it violates the 7 meter rule. I may or may not adjust it in the future, depending on how things go. As a railgun, it could be shortened so long as the rails can handle increased voltage and friction per-meter and still put out the same muzzle velocity. I also replaced the barrel from the old design to look better and to be appropriately scaled.

2. Finer detail work still needs to be done; this is just something I tossed together to see how things scaled and to get a rough approximation of the look. But that's what I'm here to ask about, since the rest of this needs to be 'filled in' with detail. Gradients and the like also still need to be added to everything except the main gun barrel.

3. The lettering will have its size increased; it was scaled to the old drawing, and will be enlarged. It's just a bit of a hassle given the various different sizes used, but it'll be done by the time the final is completed.
