Not really. The modern BMP wouldn't survive a side hit with a 37mm. It might survive a frontal, but you're lucky if it does.

Would it be conceivable that an army designing it's first real enclosed APC back in 1951 would include a roof mounted cupola, cloned from their original tank to house the vehicles sole machine gun? The idea with it being that the MG is operated by the crew inside to chase anything off that ambushes them before they dismount.

And by "is it conceivable" I mean to ask if it is era appropriate. I know I can do it mechanically. I could make a BMP-1 back in WW1 if I wanted to. But that's not the point.

Something that detonates from a long stand off distance? My guess into order to form such a long penetrating HEAT jet, it must have been at least five or ten charge diameters away? Somesort of trip-wire mine?

3. Late 50's - early 60's upgrade to #1. (Roughly stuff like the T-62/64 in terms of performance)

5. Late 60's MBT (Examples: AMX-30, Leopard 1, Chieftain, T-72)
6. Late 60's IFV (Example: BMP-1)
7. Late 70's - early 80's MBT (Examples: Leopard 2, M1, T-80)
8. Late 70's - early 80's IFV (Example: BMP-2)
9. Late 70's - early 80's APC
10. Early 80's upgrade to #7 (Roughly similar to how the M1 got it's 12cm gun).
11. Late 80's - early 90's upgrade to #7 (New electronics, better night vision, active protection, new writeup - same picture)
12. Late 80's - early 90's APC (Example: BTR-80)
13. Late 80's - early 90's IFV (A BMP-3 clone)
14. Late 90's - early 2000's future MBT

We deploy a wide and somewhat unstandardized array of artillery pieces, but our mainstay's gotta be the J-166:

In short - we got a good array of pickins.

You need both wheeled and tracked vehicles. Both IFVs and APCs. Every major military power does this now.
