I'm not suggesting all 140mm guns are identical, or that something smaller wouldn't be suitable. The advantage with a larger calibre is you'll get higher HEAT penetration without needing to resort to exotic metals for the lining.

To add to ASE's post, there are also plenty of things that you can do to improve the effectiveness of a 120mm gun, such as the use of a munition similar to the XM1111 MRM-KE, which is basically a guided rocket with a KE penetrator in the place of a warhead. It can also be fire beyond visual range and will acquire the target on its own.

That is if I remember correctly, I think Sumer said 12x for gold, 10x for molybdenum, and 7x for copper. But remember kids, gold is expensive. May try to dig up the old thread, because there was a lot of debate, some guys said 10x tops, others said 8x, I think Sumer said 12x gold.

DU supposedly had x10 optimum, so x9-x8 in practice. Lots of them stated having three charges, precursor, main, and backing, but I think Sumer told me that that wouldn't work once. Really though, top attack is the future.

i actually use a heavy tank that mounts a 160mm high velocity ETI gun for busting things like the Dire Wolf at 1.5 km

In your opinion, would using a DU EFP in a HEAT round or skeet submunition be a good idea? What about molybdenum?

I use a bizarre blend of 120, 125 and 140. And, soon, 50mm and 170mm will be amongst that.

Only like 5% of my power is nuclear, the rest is coal, and I use a lot of DU in my military.
