Considering, from what I know, that the commander does most (all) of the target indentification, this would all be a nonissue.

I was assuming that he meant he had a two man crew (driver + gunner/commander) and wanted to get rid of one more role. If there's still a commander and driver then you're right, gunner would be the easiest job to automate.
