You really want to tell people what to name their original content? That sounds a bit fascist to me. It's my right to shoot peas out of a straw and call it the dicksmasherextreme9000.

Just saying it is a misleading name. At least it isn't as bad as when I was commenting on Biop naming his rifles and whatnot. Those names were in fact turrible. Hell, if I gave a weapon system a shitty name I would hope people would say "wow, that name is gay." or "that name is very misleading."

I... I would hope I'm not in the same area of misleading as Biop. :(

Besides, now that I'm working on getting that 280mm Artillery piece on a mobile platform, it'll probably get named Godhammer, whereas the 165mm will probably get named... something less silly, but still silly, it still shoots nukes for christs sake. :p

Your names aren't that bad. Biop named his guns stuff like "the shredder." I should actually look them up again.

I shall return!

Edit: Yeah, one of his guns was named "Cowboys Killer" another one was called "Persuasion." The names were pretty turrible.

The weapons system we call "Mjollnir" hasn't even got a warhead. It's a twelve-ton tungsten rod dropped from low orbit, arrives on-target doing about Mach 20. I defy anyone to tell me that it's not appropriate to name that after Thor's hammer.

I don't care for the name Mjollnir personally. All those viking names just annoy me. Besides that and the horrible flaws with God Rods I really don't mind the name since it does fit the idea of a weapon relying on overwhelming brute force.

Lets see, my favorite weapons system name was "Reason" a man portable mini gun rail gun (its from a cyberpunk novel). Lead to all kinds of puns "See I told you they would listen to Reason!"

My nation doesn't name weapons systems, they all just have some number designation. Ships get names but they tend to be long and obnoxious so they just get called by their designation, i.e. not "Captain of the Justice Triumphant" but "Captain of SSBN-123"

Slight change of plans for the future of the Godhammer name. I'm thinking a Schwerer Gustav slapped on top of a Crawler Transporter. It also will only fire Nuclear 800mm shells. 8)

I assure you, using this thing offensively is tantamount to a hilarious waste of everyone's time and money. It will serve, 90% of the time, as an overglorified parade piece, and as a defensive weapon. :p

Not by much, lengthen the crawler by maybe 20% and you are good. Now whether you can fire it and not rip the vehicle apart is another matter, railroad guns work in part because the recoil is spent sending the entire setup backwards than having a tracked vehicle absorb the force of the recoil.

Sounds a lot more like Gungnir, to me.

^ this.

Gungnir was a mythical spear that never missed its target (which is why the SPARTAN Laser was named Project GUNGNIR).
However, Rods from God are impractical to the point of not working. At all. Not only are they the most expensive weapon system you could consider fielding, but they have terrible effect on target, unless all you want to do is dig a narrow, deep hole in the ground.

I'd prefer to use the Old English name, but I haven't been able to figure out what it might have been. Every time I try to research it on the net, I end up wanting to tell a bunch of historically and scientifically clueless neo-heathens to get in the sack with the homeopaths and astrologers and have to go do something else for a while.

There's a smaller version called Gungnir.

That's pretty much what they're for. It's not like you could hit a tank or whatnot with one (and even if you could, it'd probably be more cost-effective to just make a big pile of money and set it on fire to roast the tank crew), but they redefine "bunker-buster".

The urumi is almost as much of a danger to the wielder as it is to their opponent. I won't deny that those are all cool (even if the chakram and urumi aren't particularly cool), but Norse weapons have a simple charm that comes from being undeniably effective. Even untrained people can kill with Norse weapons, where most of those require a lot of skill. (Not that that makes Norse weapons any better, really, it's just that innovation took second place for the raiding people of Northern Europe. I'd have to do some research to figure out why India was so wtf with weapon design.)

Also, if you read the article you'd know that the kataras that had opening blades were pretty much always just for tourists, and couldn't open very well in bodies.
