What was the worst the worst disaster in your nation (it can be any sort of disaster, from natural disasters to political ones).

And if you want, how did you recover (or resolve) from it?

My was the meteor disaster of January 2012. 3 5 kilometer meteors came into our atmosphere, while our advanced technology managed to save us from complete obliteration, the effects were still devastating. It took years of military relief to rebuild our non-shielded (rural) areas.

Lusignan's Northwestern coastline (the region of North Russ) is extremely prone to Hurricanes and while the region only experiences an average of 2-3 Hurricanes a year at an average of category 2 intensity, in 1915 a Category 5 Hurricane swept down the coastline. Hurricane Renard made landfall in the middle of the night at the coastal town of Marsche, completely destroying the town. The fishing industry was crippled for several months following Hurricane Renard. The only bright side to this disaster was the development of a national early-warning system, evacuation protocols and routes, coastal development to prevent storm surge and flooding, and the creation of the Royal Lusignan Navy's Division of Meteorology and Oceanography.

Today Mordia University (located in North Russ' capital city of Mordia) is the home to one of the nation's best Meteorology Programs.

There was a time when mass heresy existed in Hibernicus. The Inquisitors have dominated everything in Hibernicus, from 1030-1034. Anyone outside of the church was considered a threat and was hanged without trial, including many druids, and their followers. Suddenly, in 1234, the Inquisitor's Massacre happened when a group of inquisitors slaughtered a ton of pagans. Disgraced, the High-King back then exiled the inquisitors to the neighboring holy kingdom of Castilla. However, the leader of the Inquisition, Priestess Helga, was never brought to justice. Being invited to the castle, which she didn't know would be her trial, she went without struggle. But she did not know her way there, and she wandered into the forest. Helga was captured by a group of cannibalistic gnoll pirates and became their lunch.

In October of 1971, when the government was still a corporatist dictatorship, a group of protesters against the regime was massacred by government forces, and the neighborhood was gassed to prevent word from getting out. There were three survivors, and one had managed to capture the massacre on film. He got the videotape to a rebel group, which took control of a national news agency and broadcast the footage. Government forces retook the building several hours later, but the damage was done. The next day, the citizens rebelled. The civil war lasted until 1996, when an alliance of Communist, Socialist and Progressive forces, backed by several nations, won the Battle of New Green Bay, a six month siege of the last major Corporatist held city, thus ending the brutal war. Mop up operations took until 2007, when the last National Socialist fortress fell, but the majority of the war was over, with a new Constitution being drafted, approved, and ratified, and a new government elected.
While the exact costs of the war are still unknown, in terms of both financial losses and human life, they are massive. It is believed that at least 250 million people died, at least 120 million of them civilians, with total deaths going as high as 475 million and civilian fatalities as high as 240 million. Estimated wounded are listed as 1.3 billion, and at least one third are civilian. The upper estimate on total wounded is 1.8 billion, with 680 million civilian. After and during the war, at least 2.3 billion fled the country or were killed, bringing the population at the beginning of 2008 to only 250 million.
Repairing damages from the war have, so far, cost an estimated 8 quadrillion rubles. Many areas of the country were affected by low and medium yield nuclear weapons, and thousands of square kilometers are, as of 2018, uninhabitable due to radiation or the after affects of chemical and biological weapons. It is believed that the reconstruction efforts will cost at least another 30 quadrillion rubles over the next seven decades.

The 1955 Moscawa Terrorist Disaster

Dissent was growing in the ponyist community for quite a while due to the Nationalist Party's anti-ponyist policies. The total deaths from this were 6,518 with a further 10,000 wounded. Within 5 years the rebuilding process was complete and the ponyist threat eradicated.
