English, or as we call it, Estmerish has been the language of our colonizers. However, due to our policy of decolonization since our independence in December 1946, we've phased Estmerish out as an official language until it was removed as an official language in 1964. Thus, it is now confined to the older generations.

Not that Estmerish has much reach as Gaullican, or, as you guys may know, French.

English education in Aikoland is mandatory starting in primary school, however only 36% of the population reports being able to understand it 'conversationally or better'. (The percentage does increase with younger age groups, 72% of citizens aged between 15 and 25 report being able to understand 'conversational English' compared to only 7% of those aged 75 or older)

English is the official language of Charellia, but oddly enough, is not the dominant language. Rather, it was chosen as the official language because it was spoken by a minority of the population in every province and was considered inoffensive in contrast to other widely spoken languages, such as Ourdrian and Sililan with which certain ethnic groups in Charellia have a complicated relationship.

English is our nation's official foreign language, and is one of three officially recognized languages alongside with two native Skrallian languages. Human immigrants must know English or one of the native Skrallian languages, both of which are difficult for humans to pronounce, so most immigrants choose English. English is also used in international communications due to its widespread usage.

We speak a variety of Chinese dialect and indigenous [Turtle Islander] languages. We have some people that use and translate English, yet most work with the languages found in our nation. While it is somewhat debatable if it constitutes as its own language, a popular vernacular is Sino-Mexica Nahuatl (華漢美西支纳瓦特泐語). This particular vernacular is a combination of primarily Mandarin Chinese and Nahuatl mixed in with some degree of additional indigenous languages and dialects such as varieties of Maya along with some influences of other Eurasian languages (especially Japanese, Spanish, and Korean).

Many if not most use phono-semantic ideograms like Sinoglyphs (Chinese Characters), yet some use phonetic scripts, some indigenous and some from Eurasia (largely East Asia, with some Alphabets like Latin on occasion). Our country also utilizes abbreviations, often by over-lining ( ͞ ) characters, words, or syllables. For example, the national vernacular can be abbreviated as 華纳͞ (equivalent to "Sino-Nahuatl" or 'SN' in letters).

English is an official language of the Anthrostate, and is spoken by near 97% of the population as a first language, and virtually 100% of the Anthrostate speaks it in some manner.
While not the sole official language, it is the language of commerce, government, and media. It holds supremacy over the other official languages of Korwinian and Russian.

However, Korwinian English is distinctly different from other dialects of the English language. Various quirks that Korwinian English speakers often exhibit include:

    - Dropping off middle and final "t"s in most words (IE: Mountain = Mou'n; Matt = Ma'; Button = Buh'on; etc...)
    - The usage of "an" to emphasize the singularness of the subject or to emphasize that the speaker lacks said subject, usually said in a sarcastic or mocking tone (IE: "Do I have dog food? I don't even have an dog!" "Don't wreck it, I only have an car!")
    - A noticeable shift in pronunciation of diphthongs when communicating with one's superiors (IE: food = fəd; have = hiv / heyv; you = yor / yuo; plates = plets / plits)
    - A noticeable lack of Latin or French phrases when it comes to philosophical or legal quotes and terminology. In fact, in Korwin, most legal / philosophical terminology is rendered in Korean (IE: Quid Pro Quo = Hoirul gajigo; Que será, será = gurohsubnida

English is not an official language in Lillorainen, neither on federal, nor on state level, and the number of native speakers is probably rather negligible. Nonetheless, English lessons have been mandatory all over the Federation ever since its founding, and in some regions, schools already have started teaching English centuries ago, due to the language's significance in international communication - the first Lillorainian state to introduce English lessons across the board was Freie Stadt Preetz in the early 19th century, the last one was Vedjading in 1981.
Due to these differences, both British and American English can be heard throughout the Federation when visiting as a foreigner. To a degree, it is possible to tell where a local is from just by his/her English. Nowadays, the U.S. variant tends to dominate, though.
Since Lillorainen's geography is currently being overhauled a 'tiny' bit, most information on it posted before December 12, 2018, is not entirely reliable anymore. Until there's a new, proper factfile, everything you might need to know can be found here. Thank you. #RetconOfDoom (Very late update, 2020/08/30 - it's still going on ...)
