No we do not speak English. There are nearly a hundread different tribal, regional, ethnic, and national languages/dialetics spread through out the whole of the commune, but all of these are native to Irkalla. The official Language of the Commune is Gothic, the language of the North, native to the nations largest ethnic group. All communications to the outside world are conducted in Latin.

Under the Language Education Act, English is classified as a Schedule C language, the lowest level language for which a school is required to offer classes. Among adults, it is spoken by approximately 10% of the population, mostly in business settings.

In 27th century, English is still widely spoken by humans, though it's lingua franca status has been lost somewhat to Mandarin Chinese.

Although most Sidhae have no real use of learning foreign languages, being fluent in at least two foreign languages is seen as a sign of an educated man, so many will study English among other languages. Sidh soldiers and especially officers are also required to take lessons in English in order to be able to converse with human prisoners of war, most of whom know this language, although translation machines are also available for this purpose.

English-speaking Sidhae speak an archaic 21st century form of Queen's English, seeing it as the last uncorrupted version of the language. Their speech may sound somewhat exotic and outlandish to a contemporary human Anglophone for this reason (compare to a 21st century person speaking Shakespearean English).

English is permitted and commonly used and understood; the government's official things are done in Latin because it is a dead language and old words will remain as is. New words in Latin follow the Vatican's recommendations, despite not being tied with the Vatican in any other way.

English is the official language of Gijinkia, though we are known to butcher it into an entirely incomprehensible dialect that sounds nothing like English at all, or any other spoken language in the world for that matter. And so the Gijinkian English Dialect is the most commonly spoken dialect of English in Gijinkia. This dialect takes a lot of its influences from Cockney, Scottish and Yorkshire english.

Vowels in Gijinkian English:

lad, bad, cat - a
pass, path, sample - aː
father - aː
not, wasp - ɔ
off, loss, cloth - ɔ
law, caught, all - ɔː
about - ə
spotted - ɪ
sit - ɪ
city - i
see, meat - iː
date, day, pain - aɪ
bed - e
burn - ʊɾ
herd, earth - ɛɾ
bird - ɪɾ
winner - əɾ
run, won, flood - ʊ
put, hood - ʊ
through, you, threw - ʉː
cute, dew, ewe - jʉː
my, wise, high - ɑe
boy, hoist - oe
no, toe, soap - oː
now, trout - aʉ
arm, car - aɾ
deer here - iɾ
mare, there, bear - aɪɾ
sort, warm, tore - ɔɾ
tour, moor - ʉɾ
pure, Europe - jʉɾ

Grammatical and phonological features in Gijinkian English:

Rhoticity is a key feature to Gijinkian English
T-glottalisation is common in Gijinkian English. Glottalisation may also occur to a lesser extent for /p/ and /k/ in informal speech.
L-vocalisation is very common, where the /l/ gets pronounced as a /ʊ/
Definite article reduction. The is often shortened to t' in informal speech, or sometimes v'
Th-fronting, where /θ/ can become /f/, and /ð/ can become /v/ in some cases. This is largely only done in informal speech.
H-dropping is common in both formal and informal speech.

Contracted negatives:

In informal Gijinkian speech, negatives may be more contracted than in other varieties of English Although the final consonant is written as /t/, this may be realised as /ʔ/, especially when followed by a consonant.

isn't - ɪnt
amn't - ant
hasn't - ant
hadn't - ant
haven't - ant
wasn't - waːnt
doesn't - dʊnt
didn't - dɪnt
couldn't - kʊnt
shouldn't - ʃʊnt
wouldn't - wʊnt
won't - woːnt
oughtn't - ɔːnt
needn't - ni:nt
mightn't - mɑent
musn't - mʊnt

In addtion, largely due to influence by cockney, these can be further contracted with "it" into innit, annit, hannit, wannit, wonnit, dunnit, dinnit, counnit, shounnit, wounnit, oughnit, neenit, mighnit, munnit.

Be afraid, be very afraid.
