Steven Dessler, the engineer who had designed the ion and fusion drives that brought the colonists of the spaceship Libra to Mars and who is now the Head of State of Meridiani Planum (well, technically his clone, but that's another story), was also the creator of the philosophy of Eudaimonic Future Society (EFS), as per the name of the book he had written outlining his concept for a free society on Mars. EFS is a comprehensive and integrated metaphysical, epistemological, ethical, economic, psychological, spiritual, and political philosophy.
It is related to what was known in the 20th and 21st centuries as classical liberalism and libertarianism, including Ayn Rand's philosophy of laissez-faire capitalism. It also has an Aristotelian influence, updated for modern times. It may be distinguished from its predecessors by its integration of 22nd century knowledge of brain function and genetic influence on individual psychologies.
It has the following attributes:
1) A Virtue Ethic for Achieving One's Potential, and Valuing Freedom, Creativity, and Individuality
2) Free Market Capitalism as a Means to Self-Actualization
3) Mixing a Constitutional Republic with Private Law
4) A Balance Between Elitism and Populism
5) A Neurological Proof of the Existence of Free Will
6) A Non-Theistic and Naturalistic Spirituality
7) A Neurological Basis for a Rational Epistemology
8 ) A Dual-Aspect and Emergentist Solution to the Hard Problem of Consciousness
