Since the majority of Ruskarkand's military uses various Augmentations, the system really seems to kick in when it comes to Close Quarters Combat and Melee work. The fast-link neural servos inside the Cybernetic Arm improve agility and hand-to-hand combat prowess, allowing the user to engage individual targets in close quarters and incapacitate them instantaneously in most cases. It's possible for a Human to quite happily beat a Dragonkinian in a fist-fight with these enhancements, and especially so when paired with certain other enhancements to the brain. When all else fails, the Cybernetic Arm has a retractable blade placed above the wrist, on the forearm. (Note: I am not talking some diddy little blade, my intention is a full on sword)

Of course, for those who are less inclined as to submit to mechanical augmentation, we have a basic fighting technique that primarily uses the forearms of the soldier as an offensive weapon. (Note: Male Dragonkinians have re-enforced scale plate under their forearm's skin that serves as a basic armor to protect the bone. Humans and Female Dragonkinians are given bracers that mimic the effect of the said armor)
Dragonkinians forgo the use of their claws or teeth, for both weapons have been proven to be impractical when being used as a weapon, as opposed to making use of the forearm and elbow as weapons. Dragonkinians also tend to cheat their foes by using their fire, or by breathing scorching air to their opponents.

No martial arts training beyond the use of a trench knife and naginata. If an enemy comes closer than maximum rifle distance to our own troops, then our troops aren't fighting hard enough.

It is the tradition of the Empire for all citizens to protect each other. The idea to leave the protection of the many up to a few, to have a few make the sacrifices needed to allow the whole to survive and thrive is frowned upon as a tradition born out of the cowardice that has proven to be the end of great civilisations.

As such, besides the traditional combat arts, every citizen is also trained in basic medic care, wilderness survival, infiltration, espionage, impriovisational weapons, and sabotage.

Any nation foolish enough to cross our borders will have the entire population to deal with.

Unarmed martial arts vary greatly within the Russian Empire. Russian units receive training in Systema, many native Siberian units employ Bokh, while units from Tatarstan employ styles derived from Kazaksha Kures, Koshti, Koras, etc. Essentially, units are encouraged to employ whatever martial arts they happen to be good at. Soldiers may also join or create their own martial arts groups for competitive purposes, and the Russian army and space forces hold yearly tournaments which are highly competitive.

Soldiers also receive standardized bayonet training, while officers are expected to learn swordplay. Since officers generally find their own instructors after cadet school, which teaches a standardized form, most officers have their own particular style consisting of other styles combined with the standard Russian lessons.

Lyranian Army and Navy train every recruit in basic close-quarters combat. The use of the equipment at hand: entrenching tool, axe, machete, katasa boots, etc. is emphasised.

The most popular martial art is tañoyora, which is basically quarterstaff with a steel pipe. Because the taño is inconveniently long to carry around in the field, tañoyora is not a part of the official military curriculum. But it is a popular leisure pursuit among soldiers and sailors. Just don't ask me what tañoyora means in English.

Alstrainian troops are trained in two different forms of close quarters battle.

They are trained rigorously in the art of fencing, and are issued longswords in addition to the standard bayonet.

The other art they are trained in is Kempo, which is a highly aggressive disipline of free combat that employs combinations of blows. Its style consists of attacking the adversary quickly, with the intention of finding openings in their guard thanks to rapid strikes at vital points. In this way the practitioner is able to dibilitate his enemy or end their life.

The military forces of Ulfheim and all of the region of Atmora have developed a deadly fighting style known as "Varúlfur Bardagi". It is a hybrid fighting style that blends the following fighting arts: Pankration, Systema, Comhrac Bas, Idrottir, S.C.A.R.S., the 18 Bugei arts of the Samurai, Koga-ryu Shinobi-no-jitsu, Muay Thai, and other arts that will not be mentioned here, due to security reasons. This hybrid fighting art also includes extensive training in "cold weapons" (edged, but not limited to knives or daggers). Cold weapons training involves learning to use them in hand to hand, as well as thrown. "Varúlfur Bardagi" is part of an overall training program known as "The Closed Circle Of Aggression" that teaches the warrior to incorporate unarmed, cold weapon, improvised weapons, and firearms in a smooth, flawless way while in combat of any form. It also trains the warrior to be able to combat multiple enemies even while heavily burdened or severely injuried and to dominate the area he is standing in. The training also involves learning all of the above both in and out of battle armor to acclimate the warrior to the differences. The name "Varúlfur Bardagi" means "Werewolf Combat" and is taken from the name of our ultra-elite commandos, the Werewolves. There are many more aspects to this fighting system than what I have mentioned here. Suffice it to say that it is a system that has been highly successful in combat and has been found to have very few, if any flaws.

Well trained Fictish officers practice a hand to hand fighting style that involves leading an opponent to charge at him. Once he is within range, the officer grabs one of his opponent's limbs, bending it past the point of its normal function, and then locking it in place with a swift strike to its respective tendon. The officer proceeds to do the same with the rest of his opponent's limbs, until he is rendered completely unable to fight back. The officer is then free to dislocate, fracture, or snap any bone he wants, ultimately making a beeline for his opponent's head, throat, and soft tissue, to make a clean, but brutal way to die.

Even if the opponent is "saved," he will most likely be crippled forever, from the resulting destruction of joints, artery dysfunction in the arms and legs, and nerve paralysis from the absence of circulation in the body after being "locked" together.
The Fictish Race:
A near-Human species ruled over by the Hernantyr "Royal" Family. They can live to be over 300 years old. The tallest members of the race stand up to 2.75 metres tall. 3 hearts and 2 stomachs.

All human citezens who are able-bodied are taught the Yetma style, a cutural tradition that varies slightly by gender. The females focus on a variant that emphasizes speed, flexibility, and fluidity so they can knock our opponents around while dodging. It is also considered to be a beautiful performance art. Men are mostly taught a style that emphasizes stamina and strategy and is considered to be of practical use only. Of course, both sexes practice both styles.
Our sentient canine citezens are usually taught their ancestral styles, which vary depending on which tribal pack they are descended from and are uncountably numerous. It is considered an obligation among canines to learn and/or teach such styles.
Those in the military are put into human/canine pairs and are taught a supplementary style that emphasizes working with your partner as a tag-team.
