History

Formation to Police State; 1534-1693

The Holy Empire of Wirbel was founded many years ago in 1534. It was created by corporation owners who needed more affordable land in larger quantities. When the ships landed on the coast of present day Fanho de Ferro, they didn't think it was going to be anything special. Eventually they moved inland- to the present day Wirbel Homeland- and settled.

The first King of Wirbel was Edmond Badcock (Edmond I). He had become popular with the citizens of Wirbel, who eventually made him the ruler of the new land. When Edmond was given control of the country, he did exactly what he had promised not to do. He turned the new nation (at the time called The Kingdom of Edmondland) into a totalitarian dictatorship and raised taxes until the corporations could barely survive. Edmond used almost all of the tax money to build giant palace with gold plating everywhere. His bed was gold, his tables were gold, everything was gold- what a waste of money. The rest of the money from taxes was used to create a police state- to keep everyone from rebelling. This madness lasted for one hundred fifty nine years. When Edmond I died in 1567, he appointed his son, Sigmund Badcock, the as the ruler of Edmondland.

Sigmund was just as abusive as his father- in fact, he was worse. He raised the taxes even more, making more companies suffer. Even Herman Mandel, ancestor of the famous General Mandel, who leads the Wirbel military today, was losing all of his money to the police state. Sigmund also had twenty kids with seven different women, and ate the most expensive food possible and showed off in front of poor people. Also, speaking of poor people, he purposely had each one arrested and brought to him to work in slave labor- and these were lazy people- they were hard working. But they could not survive a tax that had killed many corporations.

In 1593, Sigmund gave the country to one of his sons- but even all of his children argued over who would get the country. This eventually formed an Oligarchy- which was unstable because all of the children wanted to steal as much money from the citizens as possible. Eventually, the citizens noticed that the government was becoming increasingly unstable. They saw this as their chance to retake their country.

Revolution; 1693-1701

The First Battle of North Desert (1693)

The abusive Oligarchy left behind by King Sigmund's (known as "Tyrant Sigmund" to the people) children continued to abuse the citizens and kill more corporations with high taxes. Eventually something known as the Wirbel Rebels began to appear. The Oligarchy paid almost no attention to it; they were to busy counting their money and building giant palaces.

The Wirbel Rebel group began to grow, causing fear in the Oligarchy. Eventually, there was a fight in North Desert, which lead to a war. Herman Mandel, mentioned in the above section, became the leader of the Wirbel Rebels. He commanded the rebels at the First Battle of North Desert. Herman Mandel was an excellent gunsmith, and he built weapons in his own house for use in battle.

The Wirbel Rebel group in North Desert eventually pushed the government's troops back to their base, just north of the city. There they were surrounded. The Wirbels fired their cannons into the enemy fort, lowering their morale with each shot. Eventually enemy reinforcements arrived from Sigmundville (Now Called Wirbel City). The Wirbels were loosing the battle. Eventually they were pushed into the fort. All hell broke loose and the battle almost became a free-for-all. The Wirbels kept the fort and masscred the enemy troops as they entered the door. Eventually, the cannons were up and running and the enemy army was beginning to decrease in number. The Wirbel supplies began to run low, but the Wirbels did not fight like it was. Eventually, the enemy army was pushed back to the city, and the Wirbels had managed to make some more ammo.

The Siege of Fort Tansand (1693)

The next day, the enemy army came back, twice in strength, and attacked the Wirbel fort. The siege began. Enemy mortars fired over the fort's walls, killing many of the Wirbel rebels. The Wirbels began to think about surrendering. Then Herman Mandel gathered all of the Wirbels and prepared for the enemy to bust down the gate. A cannonball hit the gate. The enemy soldiers poured in. But the Wirbels had found a hiding spot above the door. They fired their weapons- killing off the first wave of enemy troops.

The second wave of enemy soldiers poured in. They turned around and saw the Wirbels. They shot their weapons, killing multiple Wirbel soldiers. Herman Mandel ran towards the enemy formation and stabbed the commanding officer in the head. He then pulled out his pistol and shot another soldier in the head. His soldiers came down with him and did the same. The enemy soldiers fired another barrage. A bullet passed right by Herman Mandel's head. The Wirbels were eventually pushed out of the fort; Herman Mandel was almost captured and executed. The Wirbels ran to the location of the present day Carbon Fiber Castle.

A small base camp was set up and a few animals were domesticated. The Wirbels would sit there for a year while the Oligarchy thought they were dead.

The Battle of Sigmundville (1694)

After one year, the Wirbel Rebel Army was seventy thousand men strong. Many people had come from around Edmondland- which was now being called "Wirbel" by the rebels. Everyone was armed with the lastest designs from their commander, General Herman Mandel. Now it was time to strike at the heart of the evil Oligarchy.

The huge rebel army marched towards Sigmundville, never looking back. They marched for many days, consuming minimal resources. The men knew that many of them would die. But their cause was something worth fighting for. Eventually the Wirbel Army arrived in Sigmundville. Immeadiately upon arrival, they were fired upon by the Oligarchy's army. Wirbel fired back.

Eventually, men from the Oligarchy's army started pouring out of the gate around the city. A cannonball from the Wribel side slammed into the gate and destroyed it. Another volley of cannonballs from Wirbel pounded the thick wall, causing it to crumble. The Wirbels continued firing, even though there were many casualties from the exposed position.

As the enemy army approached, the Wirbels switched ammo. Now they were firing canisters of shrapnel with a small explosive. The ground on which the enemy was walking on began to turn red. The ground had more red on it every time the Wirbels fired their cannons. The Oligarchy's Army began to quickly loose morale as the Wirbels pounded them. Soon, they were retreating back into the city- which won't save them. A volley of cannonballs opened a hole in the city's wall. Behind Wirbel's main cannons, Herman Mandel was going to reveal a new toy to his soldiers. It was a five hundred millimeter gun that would lob giant cannonballs into Sigmundville.

The Invasion of Sigmundville

"It is raining stone balls!" yelled a soldier in the Oligarchy's Army. A huge one hundred seventy kilogram metal ball fell from the sky. It hit the stone tower that the soldier was standing in and caused it to crash. The enemy cannons fired on the Wirbel Army. The Wirbel Army fired another one hundred seventy kilogram ball. The cannonball hit the section of the wall where the barrage had come from, causing a huge hole and several cannons to fall to the ground and break. One cannon barrel hit a soldier one the head after falling from a four story high wall. Several buildings on the inside of the wall where flatted by fall stone. Smaller cannons continued firing into the city, causing chaos and destruction.

The Wirbel Army began to move through the gaps in the wall created by the cannons. More one hundred seventy kilogram balls hit the walls and enemy towers, creating more holes for the Wirbels to enter through. Soldiers started pouring into Sigmundville like water pouring through a broken dam. The Oligarchy was on the far side of the city, hiding in their palace. They were hearing the cannon fire, but they were told that the battle was in their favor and that the Wirbels were baddly loosing. That was when a giant cannonball from the five hundred millimeter cannon plowed through the excessively gold plated palace, killing three fourths of the Oligarchy. The palace started to fall.

The last few suriviors who were in the Oligarchy ran for their lives. The enemy soldiers decided that they might be able to just live normally alongside the Wirbels if they could write a generous enough treaty.

The Treaty of Wirbel City

The Treaty of Wirbel City, written by the Oligarchy's Army, said that the Oligarchy's soldiers would serve in the Rebel Army until the revolution was over with; that Sigmundville was now called Wirbel City; that all of the Oligarchy's wealth would go to the Wirbels; and that after the revolution the Oligarchy's army could live normally in the new country of Wirbel. The Treaty of Wirbel City was signed on January 7^th, 1695 by Herman Mandel and Tobias Stuber, commanding general of the Oligarchy's Army.

The Second Battle of North Desert (1697)

The Wirbel Army, now two hundred thousand in strength, marched back to North Desert. The remnants of the Oligarchy's Army that was at Fort Tansand was only ninety five thousand men strong.

The Wirbel Army attacked Fort Tansand on August 6^th, 1697. The first shot fired came out of the Herman Gun. The cannonball ripped up several enemy cannons in one shot. The Wirbel Army fired a barrage of seventy caliber bullets. Many enemy soldiers were hit. The enemy army surrounding the fort fired back. The Wirbels scattered, causing many shots to miss, but making it harder to hit the enemy more than a few times. A barrage of cannonfire came from the fort. Many Wirbel soldiers got hit. Then, as more men in the Oligarchy's Army died, they began to realize that they were fighting a hopeless battle. They were outnumbered and outgunned. Several more barrages from the Wirbel Army ripped through the ranks of the remaining enemy army. After four hours of intense fighting, the Oligarchy's Army had lost sixty thousand men and the Wirbel Army had lost fifty seven thousand men. At the end of the fourth hour, Wilbur Lucas, commander of the remaining enemy army, signed the Treaty of North Desert, ending the war. The Oligarchy could not sign, because they had all either fled the country or died in the attack on Sigmundville (now Wirbel City).

The treaty allowed for the remaining men in the Oligarchy's army to either leave the country or become citizens. Anybody who was left from the Oligarchy would be executed if they ever tried to come back to Wirbel.

Caught

On March 17^th, 1701, the final members of the old Oligarchy were found, forced to sign a treaty, and executed for their crimes against society.

The New Nation; 1702-1799

The first ruler of the new country, the Holy Empire of Wirbel, was Friedrich Herman von Wirbel. Friedrich I favored a country where people were free to live their lives and make money. He destroyed the police state that Edmond Badcock had created and lowered taxes to almost nothing, which the businesses really liked.
