Authoritarian Democracy

Postby Cruciland » Sun Mar 11, 2012 7:00 am

It all ties into the ideology of the foreign country. To people with similar ideologies, we're often a "power-up" or give them some sort of all-powerful superweapon or something to finish the game. To people with completely backwards ideologies, we're portrayed as the lead villain to the game, often making outrageous stereotypical ramblings and blowing everything to high-Hell. (while being amazingly stupid)

In most games we're portrayed as a secretive, deceptive faction that operates behind the scenes. For example, in one video game the player character fights their way through a rogue mercenary group that is run by a general of the Kingdom of Perinpanland, only to find out at the last level the PROR was supplying the mercenary group. The player character must then fight PROR Spetsnaz.
Colonies of the PROR:
Cape of New Beginnings (independent)
Weatherington (independent)
Luna Praetoria
Blackweather (independent)
Conshockton (independent)
New Springs (independent)
Stonewater (independent)
Saint Nova (independent)
Snowpoint
City-states of the PROR:
Kravchenkograd
Dimitrigrad

The PROR is a non-Communist people's republic.

In war games we generally are the island setting for cold war troops to make a base out of as our helpless government stands by.

Our nation is portrayed as a jungle filled with nazi Velociraptors who want to eat your face, or nazi Velociraptors with a secret missile silo on the moon. They do not show our cultured and highly educated society, nor that we would prefer to eat your liver with fava beans and a nice chianti.

We're unfortunately portrayed as baby-eating fascistic lunatics who commit genocide left right and centre (Only the Lunatic part holds any truth, and even then...), because Glaswegistan is not a democracy. Thankfully it appears in blissfully few foreign games, but the final levels of Honor Calls, where the United Free States launch a counter invasion of Glaswegistan (Apparently run by Russian Fascist Oil Barons now), were truly cringeworthy; apparently all Glaswegistanians live in mud huts and the entire country resembles an Arab 1984...

There are a few games that get it right, but they're generally from Monarchies rather than Democracies or Corporate-run nations.

As an overly-rich place filled with rich, snobby people who are constantly holding royal parties and balls that you have to sneak in, find something, and usually wind up ruining.
It's extremely inaccurate though. I'm guessing that get this from the fact that our style is normally centered around being elegant, though not necessarily rich.

We're often mentioned once as "that foreign country". we aren't in many video games, and if we were, we'd just be a on-looker, or bystander nation to the events of the game.

the helghast mainland on the other hand....different story.

It can differ widely. Sometimes AIland represents the ultimate goal as a hallmark of freedom of democracy. In some games AIlanders are the main rivals to the protagonist. Sometimes we're the badass army paradropping tanks on the enemy For Freedom. Or we're the comically inept enemy that paradrop shitty malfunctioning tanks into a desert five million miles from their target. It all depends.

gwrachbyd tends to be shown in a mix of lights. games from allied nations tend to show gwrachbyd as friendly, in war games they tend to be either covert soldiers, special ops specialists or shown operating in small groups with advanced technology (or providers of unique or advanced equipment to the player) in unfriendly and enemy nations gwrachbyd tends to be seen as either backwards due to it's socilist aligned goverment and dislike of capitalism, as terrorists or cowards who kill from the shadows refusing to face opponents on the field of battle.
in neutral nations they tend to either not pay any attention to us or show us in either light.

An evil, fanatically theocratic empire run by an insane but humorous cackling dictator that goes on conquering people left right and center before being stopped by a righteous good guy power, like Lubyak in Pony Alert and Crystal Spires in Pony Alert 2.

In games from Asterdan, we are often considered allies, fighting alongside our friends in nearly every game ever made in Asterdan. In one game created by the Koreans, we are percieved as evil, trying rebel against their kind, generous and perfect rule over our country. In one other game, we are preceived as cruel and merciless inquisistioners, executing atheists, muslims, hindu's, etc., which couldn't further from the truth, as all of those who are not Christians are still citizens and they have full rights.

98% of the New American Empire are devout Christians

only two Earth video-games have featured Zwitterjiundians in them, the first, Battlefield 2143 was set during a world war 3 scenario in which Zwitterjiund supports NATO against the Pan Asian Coalition.

The second was made after the First Great Human War by an American company which portrayed us as being overly violent and genocidal. The game sold brilliantly both on Earth and in Zwitterjiundian territories.

One electronic-medium hologame, Universal Warriors, was an old Niho-Terran VR game which included us as an isolationist party with weak links to Old Terran diplomacy. In Universal Warriors, we were (Accurately... Somewhat.) portrayed as a Human society of cloned-engineers, soldiers, technicians, and theologians isolated on a post-Galactic Holocaust aquatic world within sub-aquatic research compounds struggling with recloning our population within the limitations of UW's cyberpunk galaxy. And Universal Warriors portrayed us somewhat positively in contrast with non-human video games...

As the helpless ally that needs the aid of an even bigger America-esque capitalist nation in defeating the bad guy if we're being invaded; as the okay ally of the even bigger America-esque nation whose troops are merely cannon fodder red-shirts that get killed so the hero has moral high ground.

It mainly depends on how they feel about anthros. In those nations which hate anthros, we are often depicted as brutish monsters who enslave humans are forced laborers and social inferiors. Either that, or as depraved accidents of nature.

In nations which like anthros or have no issues with them, we are often portrayed as a decent nation of free democracy, largely unrestricted markets, and decent people who try hard to be nice to everybody, but whose dealings with anto-furry sentiments has left them with a cold, hard outlook on matters of national security.

We're usually portrayed as an ally (unless you're playing a 'bad' nation) that's at home a fairly peaceful society but willing to participate in conflict against fascist or communist nations. Our defence ministry actually has the motto "Freedom needs balls!".

In games (but more often in films) that are set inside our nation, we're portrayed as being hard-working misers who hate change, travel everywhere by bike or train and act honest to the point of being rude.

In foreign GameDecks and vid-games, the Armed Federation serves a variety of roles, depending on the game.

Strategy GameDecks see us using our men as heavy infantry and slow-but-unstoppable military movements, making Xenohumanity the expensive-but-mighty faction compared to faster / cheaper / weaker armies. XenoMarine and XenoNavy are often given the most graphics-intensive high-tier units in the gaming industry due to Xeno-Tech's 'experiments', giving developers free reign to loose their imaginations.
Shooters and TacSims often portray XenoMarines as the 'Juggernauts' of the enemy force, hard-to-kill titans that serve as mini-bosses, with XenoSoldiers as the more disposable 'mooks' that use mass of fire and confusion to create challenge. Plotlines involving the Federation often have neo-cyberpunk themes or revert to WWII-like tropes of mad scientists and commandos putting it to a stop to save the galaxy as a whole.
Grand Strategy games portray Xenohumanity fairly accurately: A nation with fairly hard-to-survive social policies, but an open enough trade policy and enough guns and tech advancements to make up for it. Players often find themselves either turtling and sending PMC's to raid enemy freighters for rare resources or attacking small or non-FTL nations in order to fuel the war machine's propaganda and keep larger alliances from over-whelming them.

We're usually portrayed as a corporate police-state with an aggressive and proactive intelligence service. Given the territorial and colonialist nature of our military, we're often the primary or secondary antagonists, often sponsoring terrorism to weaken a country before sending our own forces in under the guise of peace-keeping. On those rare occasions when we're not the bad guy, we're the sleeping giant no-one wants to upset, there largely to offer you an unsavoury, shady deal when you're in a bind. Not outrageously high-technology, our military forces are always portrayed as well-equipped and well-trained with large numbers bolstered by considerable air and armoured support.

It depends on the origin of the game, but generally speaking, Kusthet is steretyped by it's bitter, inhospitable winters and the steretypes that come with an ice-locked land rather than what actually exists there.

When it comes to military games, kusthet tanks are generally pathetic, but their air force and infantry are definate strengths, though favouring somewhat unrealistic horde tactics.
