I wouldn't call Lydenburg's government entirely secular; religion plays a major role in partisanship here and shapes our current government policy of social conservatism.

There is no official religion, however, although the overwhelming majority of our civilised citizens are Christian members of the Dutch Reformed Church (or an affiliated sister organisation).

No scularim here

Vorond wrote:Secularism, being the basis for any modern enlightened society, is a fundamental principle of the Voronda constitution. Being religious is seen as something like a mental illness, similar to mental retardation and fundamentalists (the few that are left) are usually threatened with arrest and commitment to a mental institution. Religious institutions are taxed as business ventures and require a license by the People's Commissariat for Economic Planning which is very hard to come by. The last greater trouble we had in that regard was the arrest of a group of "missionaries" who were molesting innocent citizens with their idiotic ideology. They were arrested and expulsed from the nation.

Being a Biblical Christian theocracy, most of the expelled missionaries from Vorond found a home in Utiopia, before being send out again to spread the message to other countries or to any expatriate Voronda people they could find (having gone through all the trouble to learn the Voronda language).

Officially, the laws found in the Bible are the laws of the country, with some adaptation for modern times. While individuals are free to believe whatever they want, constitutionally any new laws needs to be motivated from the principles found in the Bible. This include that "man must freely choose to follow God" and for this reason some secular Utiopians still remain (and are very vocal as well). No public religious activity that transgresses the Law is permitted (e.g. idolatry), but continues in private none-the-less. A number of other religions still remain within Utiopia (including Satanism). Officially they are seen as opportunities for missionaries to prepare for work outside Utiopia.

There are no "State Church" as such and no official recognition of any religious body. No denominations are recognized and local Christian congregations can differ widely in their interpretation and practice of biblical principles. By not regulating religion, as in other spheres of life, the Utiopian ideal is as little interference as possible while maintaining the theocracy.

Catholic Christianity is the state religion, though this isn't strictly enforced outside of societal pressures. Having said that, government beyond the municipal level is co-ordinated by the three dioceses and the archdiocese, which effectively makes us a Theocracy.

In the Mind Empire, there exists new faith entirely, so that Religion in our nation cant be looked upon in the same light.

Secularism is very popular though, most people are either secular or are members of either the Gnostic or Andrewinistic Churches which heavily focus on Secularism mixed with both some Christian and Buddhist ideals as well as the divinity of the Nations founders. Many septs exist beyond these of course, however, the idea of Secularism and science as faith has existed here for a long time, coupled with the divinity of the Three founders.

Cajuniland is semi-secular.

Secular in the sense that faith schools are banned and religion is not taught as fact, but as an idea
Religious in the sense that you can wear religious symbols in school, work and you have the right to worship at school, work etc.

Our society is not secular, and Islam is the state religion, the largest religion, and an interpretation of it is the law of the land.
We do, however, have one of the largest Jewish populations in the world, and a sizable Russian Orthodox minority as well. Buddhism has some presence in this nation, but it is not widely practiced. Atheism is a minority in our nation. All religions are treated with respect and complete tolerance.

Zeorus is a judicial theodemocracy. The state religion is the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, a nontrinitarian Christian sect. Freedom of religion is provided for in the Constitution and is held sacrosanct. The Church makes up the largest religious group in Zeorus. The largest minority is Pentsatu, the native belief system of Zeorus. There are sizable Catholic and Protestant communities, in addition to Jewish and Muslim groups. There are not many atheists in Zeorus, but there is a Secular Party at the national level. The Secular Party's political activities are currently suspended while the party's leader, Dante Hancock, is on trial for election fraud.
