Freedom of Association in Your Nation

Postby Zaxton Archipelago » Mon Jan 30, 2012 6:01 am

What sort of freedoms do people in your nation have, when it comes to forming associations and groups? Can groups with an inherently undesirable cause be legally forced to dissolve?

In Zaxton, the freedom of association is held sacrosanct, to the point where even racially-motivated hate groups cannot be outlawed, though many of their activities can be.

Tsvarchivans enjoy absolute freedom of association. It is when such activities are harmful to people and/or property that it becomes illicit activity.

Freedom of Association is a right guaranteed here, and the government cannot forcibly disorganize an organization unless it's sole purposes is to break the law / incite violence, etc.

Quote from the Aininian Bill of Rights:
The Bill of Rights of Ainin wrote:Section 5: Anyone is allowed to say anything they want, even controversial or discrimatory as long as it is not a direct call for civil disorder and can demonstrate peacefully on public property without fearing eviction. Police are not allowed to use excessive force on demonstrators.
AMENDMENT TO SECT 5: All organizations, if not having the only goal of violence and/or other criminal activities, may be created, disbanded or reformed at any time.
AMENDMENT TO SECT 5: Defines "non-criminal organizations" as a group of people who share the same interests/race/feelings/etc.

Section 7: Everyone have a right to life, liberty, and security anywhere in Ainin.

Freedom of Association does exist here, the only exceptions being Communist, Nazi, Human Supremacist, or violently anti-government groups, as those are shut down instantly by the DNS.

Freedom of association is allowed. Officially constituional right, but unknown to the groups that they are monitored upon by Imperial State Security Agencies for any slip-ups. If the activities found harmful to the people or it's sole purposes is to break the law / incite violence, etc. This group will be forcibly breaking up in the name of stability of the Khanate.

Prayer groups are allowed, but they must be led by an officially ordained priest. No other groups are allowed.

Sidh citizens are generally free to associate with each other. The corporatist nature of Sidh society by definition means a citizen will be part of one or another group with a strong identity. Law doesn't regulate establishing such groups outside state-controlled ones, but citizens don't seem to desire such either, the only non-state group of any considerable membership being the Freelancers.

Two taboos that need no laws to enforce are association with humans (observance varies between worlds, from very liberal to total segregation) and association with amfiat - unpersons convicted for treason, former Sidhae stripped of their citizenship and augmentations, and banished from Imperium for life (observed very stringently, to the point of a dying Sidh refusing help from an amfiat). Aliens generally fall under the same category as humans, tolerance levels depending on population's previous experiences with the species at question.

While association with social undesirables doesn't necessarily carry a legal penalty, a Sidh doing so will be ridiculed and looked upon with suspicion.

As long as it is not criminal, or a threat to the Government, The People, or the Country. Our citizens may associate with whatever groups they like.

Freedom of Association is total in Tulija - although, just like any of the other responsible nations, this is stopped when it crosses legal boundaries and/or becomes dangerous.
Look up my Factbook, it's snazzy
THE UNITED PROVINCES OF TULIJA
Tulija is a Great Power, renowned for its liberal culture and technocratic governance. It is a world leader in several areas (education, social mobility, HDI, GDP, lack of corruption, public services, technology, secularism etc.) and maintains an excellently equipped and trained military. Regularly topping lists of most desirable locations to live in, its freedoms and economic success are largely unparalleled. Internationally, its foreign policy holds substantial sway. If it were real:

Freedom of association has historically been viewed as an important right in Jimanistan, one which the current Imperial administration is loathe to interfere with. An exception is made with terrorist and certain, more violent subversive groups, however. Such dangerous elements are generally watched somewhat more carefully.

No one can be punished for being a member of any organization according to the Constitution of Radictistan. This includes organized crime syndicates and terrorist organizations. Being a member of one is not enough to be prosecuted; one must be implicated in some offense.
