Swimming is not all that popular here due a combination of the cold and the carp, but traditionally, swimmers wear chainmail or scalemail to protect their sensitives from the carp. When swimming in one of those fancy artificial pools, people often wear any number of styles of imported swimwear, or nothing at all, although traditionalists continue to use their swimming armor even in the absence of carp threat.

There is no beach in Emerada, so sea-swimming isn't in the picture except you'd jump 100 m. down a cliff to a rocky sea below, then fine. And rivers are swiftly, so if you wouldn't want to die swimming is out in Emerada.

Older females prefer to wear one-pieces, of course.

I can't really add anything else to this.
Please note: Central Lothian is the direct successor to Mid Lothian*. As a result, I am still called Rebecca, I am still a Grammar Nazi and most information pertaining to ML also applies to CL (although I will be taking this time to change a few things).

Obviously. If there is one word that describes Kalasparata, it is obviously "smart."

Nude for both sexes as nudity is regularly practiced by about half the female population and about 1/4 of the male population in daily life.

In Bratoslovoukia, swimming which mostly takes place in New Bratoslovoukia is exceedingly common. Nudity is only permitted for women and girls. Men typically wear thongs unless they are being pleasured by a woman, in which nudity is permitted. Women when not nude just wear pasties.

Among males, swimming trunks are quite popular while among females, bikinis are the dominant swimsuit. Of course, speedos and one-piece swimsuits are also commonly worn by males and females respectfully. Older individuals opt for more conservative swimsuits (i.e longer swim trunks for males and one-piece suits for females).

Nudity is allowed, though it's generally more accepted for individuals to swim nude in private.

For reasons I'll admit to not fully understanding, nudity is the normal and accepted swimming costume in natural bodies of water - lakes, rivers, the sea, and so on - but is considered inappropriate and indecent when swimming in artificial pools, even outdoor pools. Though the man-made lakes commonly produced by our flood-control and power dams are considered "natural" for these purposes, as are quarries that have filled with rainwater. I didn't say it made any logical sense.

Wearing clothing for swimming in natural environments is unusual, but not weird, so if you're a foreign visitor who isn't sure which category your proposed swimming venue falls into, or you just aren't comfortable with being naked in public (not all Eahliscmenn are, either), a swimsuit is the safe bet.

Anyway, in situations when clothing is considered necessary for swimming, we wear short pants made for the purpose, usually of a material that copes well with being wet and dries quickly (I'll also admit to not knowing offhand exactly what the stuff is... I'm pretty sure it's a synthetic fabric), and, for wifmenn, a top of similar material, usually of fairly modest cut, similar to a sports bra.

I (like everyone else who's been through Eahlisc basic training) know from experience how hard it is to swim in ceramic scale armor, so I'm duly impressed. Some of our ancient sagas mention people swimming in full-up mail hauberks, but I've never really been sure how plausible that is, at least if you're not the sort of person they compose sagas about. I suppose I could borrow a hauberk from one of my heorþgeneates dress kits, but I don't think they'd let me try swimming in it - they're supposed to be preserving my life. I could order one of them to try it, I guess, but I don't know that it would prove much... you don't get to be part of the Eahlisc cyninges heorþwerod unless you are the kind of person they compose sagas about.

children are allowed to swim with nothing. Generally adults keep their undies on (a lion cloth-like thing) when swimming in public (like in the ocean) but bathing naked is acceptable inside bathhouses (which many are mixed-sex).
