Swimwear. Ha. That was a hotly debated topic in the years after nudity - which had been the norm as swimming was something of a private activity - began to be frowned upon by religious authorities. Eventually one-piece suits that leave much to the imagination were settled upon (propriety over comfort).

They must wear something that fully covers the chest, legs, arms, and neck. Anything less than this is punishable by 3 months in a force labour camp. Nudity is punishable by up to six months.

Most Scat-Landians swim in the nude, but swim trunks and bikinis are far from uncommon. As most Scat-Landian clothing is haute couture (as opposed to prêt-à-porter), fashions vary wildly, their only trait in common being the fact that all are - for the most part - unique among wearers. Others will often simply wear old clothing as swimwear; males in particular generally stick to a pair of denim or khaki shorts. A common trait among all Scat-Landian clothing - swimwear included - is that such attire is almost always made from recycled fabrics and materials ranging from discarded scraps to pieces of plastic.

YellowApplan swimwear tends to combine functionality with aesthetics, with materials being selected as much for their durability and ease of movement as they are for their appearance. Bikinis for women and swim trunks for men are the most common. Most swim attire will have some kind of gadgetry built-in, especially for athletic purposes (distance recorders, stroke meters, etc.).

Self-illuminating swimwear is also quite common, serving both as a fashion element and a safety feature. Most are designed with waterproofed circuits consisting of OLEDs, photovoltaic cells, and graphene capacitors, all of which (along with nanotube or graphene wiring) being woven directly into the clothing. Spider silk, nanotubes, and/or synthetic carbon-based polymer fabric are among the most common materials, and are selected specifically for both durability and their ability to "breathe" and dry quickly (often within several hundred seconds at most).

Only competitive swimmers really wear anything when swimming, and that's really for team identification.

People just going swimming recreationally tend to do so in the nude, in the Empire.

Swimwear in Ruskarkand is actually quite rare; amongst the Dragonkinians, anyway.
Generally, it's seen as somewhat restrictive to wear Swimwear, most seem to encourage eachother to swim nude anyway, seeing as that is what's considered natural.

At most, Swimwear is generally used in most modelling shots. We have one key example; but I suppose it should be withheld since we respect the privacy of the High Dragoness of Ruskarkand.

People can either wear their birthday suits or anything made out of the material of swimming costumes. Swimming in public pools with street cloaths is strictly prohibited. Swimming in beaches however...
Kalaspia-Shimarata's flag represents the Union between K&S. The dark blue represents the sea and the light blue represents the sky. In Kalashi language considers light blue and dark blue to be different colours. England colonised, and unified K&S, between 1774 and 1953, and English, light blue and dark blue are considered to be the same colour. Therefore, the contrast between dark blue and light blue represents the union, but the differences between K&S where as blue being two but simultaneously one colour represents K&S being two, but simultaniously one entity. The opposite to the symmetry represents the unity and indipendance of K&S, whilst also representing the Kalashi culture of opposite symmetry.KS is 75% Christian, hence the cross.

One piece bathing suits are the norm for swimming pools. In coastal waters, due to the extreme cold a full body wetsuit is preferred.

Most public beaches and swimming pools in Shlivlann have separate sections for males and females. Most people swim nude there.

At mixed-sex beaches and pools, it is required by law to wear something more or less decent, like this:

Bikinis are illegal, and so are one-piece swimsuits for women that show their hips.

In my "state," obviously, anything and everything goes, although those that do want to wear things, two piece bikinis for women and knee-length trunks for men are most popular, although anything and everything in between can be seen. Nudity generally is most popular.

How bout your state? Is what people may or may not wear regulated in your nation? What's popular, what's not?

In Jolleus, public nudity is on the books as being illegal, but it's one of those laws like "no spitting in public" that is generally ignored as long as it isn't causing problems. That said, bare skin is the most common swimwear. For those that do wish to cover their genitals at the pool, knee-length trunks are worn (by males and females alike).
