What year does your nation consider it to be

I've heard tons of variation on what year nation's consider it to be, even in MT. Lots of people use 2009, while I've seen dates as far as 2020 used for MT.

Personally, I tend to use 2009. That doesn't mean that I'm not at the same level of tech as someone who uses, say, "2014". I just use that mainly because it fits better for my businesses in Global Economics.

The Bretonian calendar presently rests at 836 A.S. (After Settlement). Thanks to fluid time the year can advance forwards depending on the circumstances, though for most day-to-day stuff I just go by today's date. I have no idea what year that pertains to on our real-life calendar, for that was the intention - to avoid people using the corresponding RL year as a gauge to determine what sort of level their technology would be at. That, and Bretonian authorities officially deny that Bretonians came from Earth at all, despite significant evidence to the contrary. Obviously, at the very least, it'll be 836 years into the future, discounting travel time and suchlike.

If you look at the cars on the streets, it's 1960. But if you look at a calendar, it's 2009. If somebody shoots at me with a weapon from 2020, I think, "Whew! I have 11 years to duck."

My spies do use some nice technology that might be post-2009, but if I told you about it, I'd have to ask you to eat your monitors.

Also often used (especially in science) is the Holocene Calendar, in which the current year is 12009.

Currently, it is believed by most of the Soviet science community that 0 A.F. begins in 2153 A.D, although since these dates only exist in near legend, it would be almost impossible to gauge whether or not this estimation is accurate. ICly, my nation is comprised of quite a few humans, although they have little knowledge of Earth or even Sol, since the location of Sol was lost when the first colonists crash landed on the current homeworld of my nation. Most humans believe that they're actually a genetic offshoot of the nekos, which given DNA evidence that 'supports' this, it's basically accepted as fact. Pretty much discovering Earth and the actual history of my nation would kind of be a neat set-up for a massive political, social (and maybe downright violent) conflict. >_>

So we're somewhere in the realm of about the 5-6th millennium, which means I can pretty much get away with most of the FT tech-awesomeness, even though I don't. Heck, my spaceships don't even have shields (in the fantasy FT way), they take most of that term to be referring to the actual hull of the ship specifically from radiation shielding. :P
