A single term to describe the "type" of nation Maltropia is rather difficult to present. The Royal Kingdom of Maltropia is, as its official name suggests, a monarchy. Its political structure resembles that of a Constitutional Monarchy, but with elements of Absolute still extant from its inception. It tends to pursue a Free Market economic ideology, but there remain state-supplied services and even some monopolies within the country.
"Type" doesn't necessarily mean the system by which it is governed, however. The entire culture of the nation, its history and foreign relations must be called into the equation of what precisely Maltropia is. It was a realm of exiles, but then became a sort of revolutionary power. It then passed through a period of expansionist Imperialism, and that particular trend in Maltropian history remains in its interventionist regional policies. It has long focused on being a naval superpower. Ideologically, the nation is (as has been stated) Free-market Capitalist, as well as devoutly Catholic.

So, what can I rattle up as a summary? Maltropia seems to be a Free-Market-Capitalist Catholic Naval Interventionist Absolutely Constitutional Monarchy. That's a long list. It might make more sense to describe it as "Paradoxian", an even vaguer generalisation, but which puts pretty well the sheer variety of factors which make Maltropia what it is.
